The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 is a sports car that dominated in racing during its time in the 1930s, establishing new standards for high-performance cars.
It captured multiple wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 1000 Miglia, leading the Alfa Romeo to sell a street version of the vehicle.
The 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Torpédo will be up for grabs at the Gooding Christie's Pebble Beach Auctions from August 15 to 16.
This one features original open coachwork by famed Parisian coachbuilder Joseph Figoni, with desirable Monza cowl.
As a bare chassis, these vehicles were available on the road in both short and long-wheelbase models, with coachwork that could be commissioned by the customer.
It could be done through firms such as Touring, Zagato, and lesser known Carrosserie Figoni, that provided a high quality build, fine woodwork, luxurious interiors and elegant styling.
Figoni is said to have outfitted seven road-going 8C 2300s between 1932 and 1935 on a built-to-order basis.
The striking two-seater Torpedo that is displayed on the 1933 vehicle was ordered to Paris by Alfa Romeo's first owner, Louis Jeantet.
It includes a rare Alfa Romeo Paris badge, a folding soft top with exposed bows, long fenders, a separate trunk, and dual-mounted spares.
French luxury car authors, Peter M. Larsen and Ben Erickson, described the car as having: "A body that would be plain from the hand of any other carrossier, but its austerity is alleviated by handsome and perfectly balanced proportions that achieve an understated yet exciting look…

"It is a classic sportscar style conceived at the cusp in time just before aerodynamic thinking changed car design forever.'
There are no side windows on the cars vody, or curtains, beltine or other ornamentation.
Nevertheless, the 8C 2300 boasts an all-aluminium 2.3L twin-cam straight eight that is supercharged to produce 138 horsepower.
It has been dubbed the "premier prewar Italian sports car", with 140 BHP at 4,800 RPM.

Last year, another iconic Le Mans racing car hit auctions, and was expected to sell for an eye-popping £7million.
It was a 1954 Jaguar D-Type, that clocked a blistering 172.97 miles per hour.
And earlier this year, another rare Alfa Romeo supercar was bought by a British man to impress his wife on their 1956 honeymoon.
He bought an Alfa Romeo 8C from 1932, for £3million at auction.

Urgent Vauxhall, Citroen, Peugeot 'fire risk' recall on 28 different car models
A total of 28 models across the Alfa Romeo, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands could be at risk, through loosened nuts on a fuel pipe, which could result in an engine fire Stellantis has issued a recall for 72,000 vehicles across the UK over fears they could burst into flames. The automotive giant warned that 28 different models spanning Alfa Romeo, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot and Vauxhall marques face potential danger due to loose nuts on fuel pipes that could trigger engine blazes. The safety alert follows 11 documented incidents of vehicles catching fire in France and marks the second significant recall this year, after Citroen C3 and DS3 owners were warned about a potentially deadly airbag defect. A Stellantis spokesperson said: "Having customer safety and satisfaction at the core of its values, Stellantis is voluntarily recalling an estimated 72,000 in the UK due to a potential issue with the high-pressure fuel pipe. "Some 2023-2025 Peugeot, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat vehicles may face fuel leakage at the high-pressure pipe between the high-pressure pump and the rail due to loosened nuts. This can potentially lead to higher fuel leakage consumption and, in a worst-case scenario, to occurrences of fire in the engine." The company confirmed it has begun reaching out to affected motorists proactively, urging them to book appointments with dealers. The spokesperson added: "Stellantis already started the proactive outreach to vehicle owners, asking them to contact the dealer network to schedule an appointment. The rework consists of retightening the nut connections on the high-pressure pipe and the screws of the rail. It takes less than half an hour and is free of charge." Owners of the impacted vehicles can get in touch with their local dealer via the company's website or by telephone.

Why The 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale Tributo Italiano Is The Right Sized Alfa You Can Afford
Ford's CEO calls its new EV a 'Model T moment,' a claim that suggests a revolution in affordability. We analyze if a low-cost, LFP-powered car can truly live up to the legacy of the car that put the world on wheels. As Italian as you can get It may not be Mambo Italiano, but for the Tonale, it's a special edition named Tributo Italiano that makes the Tonale feel truly exotic. While you may drive the Tonale to the grocery store through the suburbs, you can almost envision a jaunt over cobblestone roads that might've once been part of the Appian Way. I may be flexing my Roman history and Latin background a bit here, but you get the gist, right? 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale Tributo Italiano Special Series — Source: Alfa Romeo How Italian is the Alfa Romeo Tonale? Well, for starters, the Tonale is manufactured in Pomigliano, Italy, and there are Italian hints everywhere. On the mirror caps is the red, white, and green Italian flag, a color theme also found near the gear shifter and emblazoned on the headrest. Not to mention the Alfa logo is one of the coolest logos in the entire auto industry, and it's found in several locations inside the Tonale too. If there's any brand that can really lean into its heritage and history, it's Alfa Romeo, so it's not overdone with the Tonale. In fact, it makes the overall vibe of the Tonale feel exotic and refined. What does the Tributo Italiano add? The Tributo Italiano Edition makes its debut on the Tonale this model year but has already brought its Italian vibe to Alfa's other models like Giulia and Stelvio. From the 'V' insert on the front grille and 20-inch alloy wheels with red Brembo brake calipers, there are standout elements all over this Tonale. An all-new body kit was designed for the model, painted in the same color as the car, which includes front and rear bumper side inserts, wheel arches, and side skirts. The sporty Italian style of the Alfa Romeo Tonale Tributo Italiano edition is further accentuated by skid plates and side/front accents in matte Dark Miron, adaptive full-LED matrix headlights, and chrome-plated twin tailpipes. 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Tributo Italiano Special Series (European Spec) — Source: Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo's heritage behind the wheel The Italian word for fast is veloce, and the Tonale lives up to that while also being infused with the Alfa Romeo racing DNA (somewhat). A small displacement engine might look uninspiring, but when you find out the 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine also has an electric motor assist, you start to realize this small SUV is cleverly engineered. According to Stellantis' media site, the engineers refer to it as 'efficient sportiness.' Call it what you want, but what you have is 285 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque. That's the sporty part. The efficient part comes from the electrified side of this powerplant that provides about 35 miles of range when fully charged. There's also a six-speed automatic transmission, which does seem to struggle keeping up with the turbo at times. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard for the Tonale as well. Fine Italian craftsmanship inside This special edition Tonale has perforated black leather sports seats with hints of red on them. The aforementioned headrests, which don't usually get much attention, have the Tributo Italiano logo embroidered on them and really anchor this incredibly refined interior. Other distinctive elements include red stitching on the dashboard, seats, and door panels. There's also the 'carbon design' dashboard, which is exclusive to the Special Edition. Rear legroom and headroom are impressive for a vehicle this size, as is the cargo room. The Tonale has 22.9 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row, with a 60/40 split that expands the total cargo area to 50.5 cubic feet. The infotainment system is a little too 'European' in that it's over-engineered and a little awkward to use. That said, the 10.25-inch touchscreen is responsive, and there is wireless connectivity for Apple and Android smartphones. The expansive moonroof and Harmon-Kardon sound system complete the upgrades for this Tonale. 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Tributo Italiano Special Series (European Spec) — Source: Alfa Romeo Fuel efficiency isn't bad either The Tonale has an EPA rating of 77 MPGe or 29 mpg combined in gasoline-only mode. According to Stellantis, it takes approximately four hours to fully charge the Tonale, enabling it to achieve a range of 35 miles. That means that if your commute is under 35 miles, you can recharge and rarely ever need to refuel. Adding in the impressive and fun performance means that Alfa Romeo's engineers hit the mark with their 'efficient sportiness.' Final thoughts This special edition sure does add a lot of appeal and unique qualities, but does it add to the price tag? Yes. The base Tonale has an affordable price of just under $40,000, while the Tributo Italiano Edition has a starting price of nearly $54,000. The tester that I drove had a final MSRP of $58,125, which is still less than the larger SUVs that Alfa offers, and if you can go without the special edition features, you can actually snag a fun-to-drive, Italian SUV for around $40,000. That's hard to believe. Now cue up the Dean Martin and let's hit the road. About the Author Jimmy Dinsmore View Profile

Car Deal of the Day: flamboyant Alfa Romeo Junior hybrid for less than £250 per month
Stylish small SUV with sporty cabin Hybrid system offers nearly 60mpg £239 per month on a four-year lease The stylish Alfa Romeo Junior was available exclusively as an EV when it finally arrived last year, but if you're not ready to go electric there's now a hybrid version called the Junior Ibrida – which literally means 'Hybrid' in Italian – and it can be yours for less than £250 a month. This four-year lease deal for the Junior Ibrida is being offered by Carwow Leasey, through the Auto Express Find A Car service. It requires an initial outlay of £3,167, followed by monthly payments of £239, and includes a standard allowance of 5,000 miles per year. Advertisement - Article continues below Of course, plenty of people cover more than that, but increasing the annual limit to 8,000 miles costs only £13 extra each month. Better still, with the allowance pushed all the way up to 10,000 miles, the same Junior Ibrida can be yours for just £259 per month. Inside, the Junior Ibrida features the same interior as the more expensive electric versions. It looks impressive and features plenty of sporty flair, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver and a raised centre console making the cabin feel more driver focused than is the case in other small SUVs. Admittedly, it's not particularly spacious in the back, but you do get 415 litres of boot capacity, which is more than a Volkswagen Golf can offer. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below There's just one specification for the Junior Ibrida, and it comes reasonably equipped with 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, dual 10.25-inch screens, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, LED lights, rear parking sensors, keyless go and driver-assistance tech such as adaptive cruise control. The Alfa's hybrid system uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech petrol engine and a 28bhp electric motor that's built into the car's six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The e-motor is powered by a 0.9kWh 48-volt battery located underneath the driver's seat that's topped up by regenerative braking, meaning you don't have to worry about plugging it in anywhere to charge. The set-up produces 134bhp, 230Nm of torque and, according to the Italian firm, can return up to 58.9mpg.
