Kuwait Confirms March 1 as First Day of Ramadan 2025
Rabat– Kuwait has officially confirmed that March 1 will mark the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan for the year 2025.
The country's Moon Sighting Authority announced the news today, according to Kuwait's news agency Kuna.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed globally by Muslims as a time of fasting, prayer, spiritual reflection, and community gathering.
In Kuwait, where about 85% of the population follows Islam, Ramadan holds special significance. The rest of the population mainly consists of non-Kuwaitis residing in the country.
The Kuwaiti people are known for their long-standing traditions and customs. Before the start of Ramadan, women head to the markets to purchase diverse kitchenware, which they proudly showcase during family gatherings and Ramadan evenings.
After a full day of fasting, Kuwaitis gather in large numbers around the Iftar cannon near the historic Souq Al-Mubarakiya in the heart of the capital – a popular destination during Ramadan. Once the cannon fires and the call to Maghrib prayer is heard, Kuwaitis break their fast with dates and milk.
The traditional Ramadan 'Ghabqa' remains a cherished custom among Gulf communities. Held between evening prayers and Suhoor, the gathering features a variety of dishes, including sweets, 'Jareesh,' 'Harees,' and 'Luqaimat.'
Women take pride in showcasing their culinary skills by preparing homemade dishes, which are then shared during family gatherings.
Ramadan in Kuwait is also marked by the vibrant 'Diwaniya' social gatherings, where people come together in traditional meeting halls.
These gatherings host communal Iftar meals, featuring popular Kuwaiti dishes such as rice with meat, fish, 'Harees,' 'Tashreeb' with meat, and 'Majboos.'
Traditional desserts like 'Luqaimat,' and 'Muhallabiya,' are accompanied by popular Ramadan drinks, including 'Qamar Al-Din,' Vimto, saffron lemonade, as well as Arabic coffee and tea.
Beyond food, Diwaniyas serve as a hub for lively discussions on daily life issues and light-hearted competitions, creating a joyful and communal atmosphere throughout the holy month. Tags: kuwait Ramadanramadanramadan 2025

South Africa to Celebrate Eid Al Fitr on March 31
Rabat– Muslims across South Africa will celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Monday March 31, 2025. The official announcement came after religious authorities confirmed the visibility of the Shawwal moon, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The Islamic month of Shawwal commences with the festive celebration of Eid Al Fitr, meaning 'the celebration of breaking the fast', a much-anticipated celebration after a month of fasting and prayer. Ramadan is not only a month of abstaining from food, drink, and carnal pleasures from the first light of dawn to the setting of the sun; it is also a month to tend to one's soul and relationship with Allah and others. Muslims are rewarded with Eid Al-Fitr every year, as an occasion to celebrate themselves and each other. For Muslims worldwide, Eid Al Fitr is a day of prayer, and South Africa is no exception, with mosques all over the country hosting early morning Eid prayers and thousands expected to attend. In line with the spirit of Eid, community leaders have urged the public to embrace the spirit of generosity and compassion by engaging in charitable acts and supporting those in need, mainly through the Islamic pillar of Zakat. Following the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW), Muslims are also urged to focus on upkeeping and strengthening of blood ties by visiting, or at least calling, their family members wherever they might be and regardless of any disputes. South Africa is home to 654,064 Muslims, comprising 1.5% of the population. President Cyril Ramaphosa has been consistent in extending his best wishes to South Africa's Muslims, emphasizing the spirit of joy, faith, and unity. Official: Eid Al Fitr 2025 is on Monday in Morocco
Rabat — Morocco's Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced today that Eid Al Fitr is on Monday, March 31. The Islamic Ministry announced the news after religious authorities confirmed that the crescent moon for the month of Shawwal, marking the end of Ramadan, was sighted. With the crescent moon visible, Eid Al Fitr will be on Monday, and therefore, Moroccans will be enjoying a long weekend, with both Monday and Tuesday off. The announcement confirms predictions by astronomer Ibrahim Akhyam, who told Morocco World News that the moon will be visible tonight, pending an official confirmation from the ministry. Eid Al Fitr is another significant religious holiday, when Muslims across the world flock to mosques to perform Eid prayers. Following Eid prayers, families gather for their first morning breakfast after 29 to 30 days of fasting from dawn to sunset every day. Ftour or breakfast tables in Morocco are typically adorned with different savory and sweet meals, particularly pastries, and Moroccan sable or almond-based cookies. Moroccans also serve special bread-like dishes like mssmen, a buttery flatbread that is usually served with honey (lessl), cheese, and sometimes amlou, a peanut or almond paste. Baghrir, also known as the Moroccan pancake, is a go-to among Moroccans during Eid. No ftour is complete without a cup of steaming hot mint tea, which can also have sheeba, or saffron as additional herbs. Morocco started fasting for Ramadan on March 2, unlike other countries that started the holy month fasting on March 1, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Egypt, among other countries. Beyond the breakfast feast, Eid Al Fitr is special in Morocco for its morning atmosphere. The streets are filled with celebratory greetings like 'Mbrook l' Eid' or 'Mbrook A'awashrkom' — just two of many ways that people greet and wish each other happy Eid celebrations. Children wear new clothes on Eid and line up in the early morning next to their houses' door to show off their new styles, or maybe brag about their 'Eidi' hauls — cash they receive from their relatives on this occasion. Both Moroccan men and women adorn themselves in new gandoras or djellabas, but the women may also additionally wear beautiful kaftans and takshitas to celebrate Eid in style.
