Accessible path enables National Star students to explore nature
Before the new path was created, students relying on wheelchairs could not access the country park without being transported by minibus.Ms Hodgin said the path would also enable students to "play a part in conserving their local landscape". In the autumn, students will work alongside community volunteers to plant saplings along the perimeter of the path, to help the county towards achieving its target of 20% of woodland cover by 2030.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, funding for the Connecting Parishes Project came from a Gloucestershire County Council local access forum meeting. The first bid to National Highways funded a feasibility study of improving accessibility and connectivity for several schemes in parishes affected by the missing link roadworks. Out of this scheme came 18 projects, aimed at connecting people from the urban area to the Cotswold Way and the Cotswolds path network. Over two years, improvements were made to surfaces, drainage, signage and the removal of barriers like stiles and narrow gates.The final scheme was the new path link at National Star College, which officially opened on Wednesday.

A FIRE has broken out on a busy London shopping street, forcing a Tube station to close as 70 firefighters tackle the blaze. Firefighters were called to a fire in south London, where thick smoke was seen billowing over a shopping street. 3 3 3 Ten fire engines are tackling the blaze on Electric Avenue in Brixton, which is believed to have started in a storage area behind the busy shopping street. Brixton Tube station was temporarily closed on Monday morning due to the fire. Metropolitan Police officers were at the scene, blocking access to the street with police tape while the London Fire Brigade tackled the blaze. Firefighters could be seen heading in and out of several shops on Electric Avenue, trying to access a back area where the fire started. A large plume of smoke could be seen rising above the buildings on Monday morning. A fire engine with a long ladder could meanwhile be seen in use on Electric Lane, a small back alley behind the street which hosts Brixton market. No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire on Electric Avenue, Brixton, London Fire Brigade said. The fire on the busy south London shopping street appears to have been mostly extinguished. However, smoke can be seen billowing out of the doorway of one shop, while firefighters continue to work on Electric Avenue and a police cordon remains in place.
