Rafizi says welcomes fight for PKR deputy presidency, announces ‘reformasi revival' tour
KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has confirmed that he will defend his PKR deputy president post in the May 23 election, while reiterating his welcome for a contest to strengthen internal democracy.
Rafizi said he officially submitted his nomination form today and looked forward to engaging with members as part of a nationwide tour to promote reformist ideals.
'As I've said before, I welcome any candidate who wishes to run, as this will further ignite the spirit of democracy within the party,' he said in a statement.
He also announced a series of engagements under the Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) banner, which he described as a platform to ensure PKR remains committed to its reformist foundations while in power.
'We will be travelling to various states to meet party members face to face, share our views and present our plans for the future,' he said, adding that he and his team were focused on strengthening the party's direction.
Rafizi stressed that the roadshow aimed to reconnect the leadership with grassroots members, particularly at a time when the party must demonstrate that its ideals can survive the challenges of governance.
The first stop of the tour will be in the southern region, with a forum scheduled on May 11 in Seremban for members from Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.
Rafizi ended his message by thanking supporters for their continued backing and called on all members to maintain the spirit of reform regardless of the pressures of being in government.
Earlier, Nurul Izzah Anwar, the daughter of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, confirmed her candidacy for the deputy presidency while simultaneously rejecting allegations of nepotism.

'Malaysia must build greater resilience to face global economic risks and uncertainties, while accelerating structural reforms and narrowing socio-economic development gaps,' he said in a Facebook post. Earlier, Anwar chaired a high-level discussion on the 13MP's preparation with senior government officials. He said the preparation of the document, which began in mid-2024, is the result of a collaborative effort and comprehensive feedback on proposed strategies and initiatives from a wide range of stakeholders. These stakeholders include various ministries, state governments, local authorities, civil society organisations and the general public. Last month, a business group expressed concern about the 13MP following the resignation of economy minister Rafizi Ramli. The Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (Samenta) warned that the country risked missing out on yet another economic cycle (2026–2030) if key reforms outlined in the plan were not retained and fully implemented. Rafizi resigned as the economy minister on May 28 following his defeat to Nurul Izzah Anwar in the race for the PKR deputy president's post. The Pandan MP said his final responsibility as economy minister was to complete the 13MP, which will be tabled in Parliament in the upcoming meeting from July 21 to Aug 28.

Ramanan has urged party members to set aside their differences and unite behind party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as PKR prepares for the upcoming Sabah state election and the 16th general election. He said party unity and internal stability were vital to ensuring the success of the reform agenda championed by Anwar and the party. "The struggle must continue. We need to move on, reunite, and stand firmly with the president to deliver our shared vision. Party unity and stability must be our foundation," he said. Ramanan was speaking after attending the Organisational Strengthening Seminar in Melaka, which also featured a special engagement session with Anwar. The event brought together key leaders and grassroots representatives from across the state, aimed at reinforcing party structures and mobilising support ahead of crucial national polls. "This was not just a symbolic gathering. It served as a concrete platform to reinforce the party's organisational machinery, from the grassroots right up to the central leadership," he added. He said Anwar, in his address, stressed the importance of all members being open-hearted and moving past the differences that arose during the party elections. "He reminded everyone that the election phase is over, and now is the time to close ranks, move forward together, and double down on our efforts for the future of the party and the country. "In his speech, the president also called on members to rebuild ties among themselves, even if some were disheartened by the recent election outcomes." Ramanan also expressed appreciation to the grassroots for their continued commitment, and called on all members to "close ranks" and remain focused on the party's broader mission. "Keadilan is more than just a political party. It is a people's movement. It is our hope, our home. Let us strengthen our resolve, rise together, and bring victory to Keadilan."

No Malaysians affected in Israel's strikes on Iran, says Foreign Ministry
