Poonch: Bhai Surender Singh , Head Granthi, Sahab Mahant Saab Ji Gurudwara, claimed that there was damage to gurdwaras , mosques, and temples after firing from the Pakistan side.Speaking to ANI, Bhai Surender Singh said, "It wasn't done by the Indian Army; it was actually firing from Pakistan. There was damage to gurdwaras, mosques, and temples, and we also had casualties. A teacher who was teaching children was killed. Pakistan fired on our city, on people's homes, and even our gurdwaras were hit.""The truth always wins, and we must speak it. Despite all the damage and attacks on gurdwaras and temples, Pakistan is shamelessly blaming the Indian Army. But the truth is that Pakistan is behind this," he added.Terming the incident "unfortunate", Balbir Singh, General Secretary of the Gurdwara Committee near the District Hospital in Poonch, stated that he was present at the gurdwara when the cashier of the gurdwara was killed in Pakistan's firing."It is very unfortunate. The army of Pakistan could not stoop any lower. I was present in the gurdwara myself when the cashier of the gurdwara was martyred. He was reciting from the holy scriptures during the Sehaj Path, and just 2-5 minutes after talking to me, a bomb from Pakistan landed on the gurdwara boundary wall, and he was martyred near his house. I want to say this with deep sadness that they are projecting this to the whole world through false propaganda," Singh said."Not just one, but three gurdwaras were hit. Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha Poonch, which is a very large gurdwara in Poonch, was hit, as well as Gurdwara Krishna Ghati in the village of Poonnch, and another gurdwara in Jammu and Kashmir which is a very sacred place for Sikhs, the site of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, known as Dera Nangali Sahib, that too was affected. It's a deeply revered place visited by devotees from around the world," he added."It is shameful that the PakistArmy, already infamous worldwide, is now lying to blame the Indian Army. The whole world has seen the truth--that the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy have given a fitting reply to Pakistan," he further asserted.India said on Saturday that Pakistan has violated the understanding reached between DGMOs of the two countries earlier in the day on the stoppage of firing and military action, and that the Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with the border intrusions.At a special briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said this is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today and India takes "very serious note of these violations".India called upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.Misri said India's Armed Forces have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the border along the International Border as well as the Line of Control."For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take very very serious note of these violations," Misri said."We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility. The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the border along the International Border as well as the Line of Control," he added."Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called the Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time," he said."Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on May 12 at 1200 hours," he added.External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar noted in a post on X that India will continue its firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism.

'The US-Russia summit in Alaska has definitely been productive," Dmitriev said according to CNN, adding that there were 'lots of issues that we discussed and many we agreed on".'Some of them are to be agreed and definitely it's very important that President Trump outlines a significant economic potential of cooperation between the US and Russia," said Dmitriev.'We will continue building US-Russia relations going forward despite lots of resistance to this, but we will continue strengthening US-Russia ties," he added, as per CNN. Historic T-55 tank ‘Shivashakti' now in Ranebennur
The historic T-55 war tank 'Shivashakti', which was used in the historic Indo-Pak war for Bangladesh liberation will now be on public display in Ranebennur of Haveri district. The historic tank will now be on display permanently before the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Ranebennur, thanks to the interest taken by Ranebennur MLA Prakash Koliwad. During the Independence Day celebration on Friday, Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly U.T. Khader unveiled the tank. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prakash Koliwad said: 'The display of the war tank is a way of honouring the brave soldiers, who led the tank in the war field. It is also aimed at inspiring the youngsters and sensitising them about country's military power'. Speaker U.T. Khader termed the installation of the tank at Ranebennur as a matter of pride for the whole State. 'It inspires the younger generation to know more about the history our military and take pride in it'. He also called on everyone to understand the history and be patriotic and contribute towards nation building. History During the Indo-Pak war in 1965, the necessity of armored fighting vehicles was felt by the Indian Army. Therefore, the Indian government approached European countries for the supply of battle tanks. The T-55 tank was procured during the period 1966-77. It was the main battle tank at that period of time and as per the prevailing policy, it was to have a life of 15 years with one mid-life overhaul. This T55 tank was procured from Russia during the war between Indo-Pak for Bangla liberation in 1971, named Shivashakti and it helped army men to succeed in their mission and to achieve victory. Shivashakti belongs to assault regiment of Indian Army and has been procured from the Central Army Fighting Vehicle Depot at Kirkee in Pune (Maharashtra). The tank has been installed in Ranebennur utilising ₹15 lakh released from the MLA's local area development fund and ₹9.85 lakh from the municipal grants.

Trump tariffs could hit 70% of India's goods exports: Here's what ICRIER recommended to mitigate the impact
Around 70 per cent of India's goods exports to the US, valued at $60.85 billion, are now exposed to the 50 per cent tariff imposed by the US administration, according to an analysis by ICRIER, a economic policy think tank. This is a significant concern for key Indian sectors, although it represents just 1.56 per cent of GDP and 7.38 per cent of total exports, which is far from a catastrophe for India's $3.9 trillion economy. The report by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, titled 'Navigating Trump's Tariff Blow' outlines the specific challenges posed by these tariffs on several Indian sectors, along with recommending ways to deal with them, ANI said. The US administration, led by President Donald Trump, initially imposed a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods. This was later increased by another 25 per cent to a total of 50 per cent, a decision reportedly linked with India's continued imports of Russian oil. In contrast to India, competitors such as Vietnam (20 per cent), Bangladesh (18 per cent), Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines (19 per cent), and Japan and South Korea (15 per cent) enjoy lower rates, as per an ANI news report. The impact of the US tariff is heavily concentrated in labor-intensive and high-value sectors, which not only anchor the merchandise exports to the US but also directly affect employment generation and the livelihoods of millions of workers and farmers. These sectors include: Textiles and apparel: This sector now faces a tariff disadvantage of over 30 percentage points compared to rivals like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam, threatening its competitive position in a key export market. Gems and jewelry: With exports to the US worth $11.9 billion, this sector faces similar challenges against suppliers such as Turkey, Vietnam, and Thailand. Auto parts: Constituting 3 per cent of India's exports to the US, this sector is also vulnerable. Agricultural products: Shrimp exports will be worst hit as 50 per cent tariffs come on top of existing anti-dumping and countervailing duties that India faces, making them uncompetitive with exports from Ecuador, Indonesia, and Vietnam. "These are sectors where buyers can switch sourcing relatively quickly, which gives US importers bargaining power and weakens India's negotiating position," the report said. However, it's important to note that the new US tariff regime excludes pharmaceuticals, energy products, critical minerals, and semiconductors. To mitigate the negative effects of the tariffs, the ICRIER report proposes a three-pronged strategic response for India: Smart negotiations: Engage in logical and rational negotiations with the US to find a mutually agreed resolution. Targeted relief: Provide immediate and targeted relief support to the hard hit sectors to help them deal with the tariff related losses. Trade diversification: On high priority, it's crucial to diversify export markets to reduce dependency on the US and build long-term resilience. President Donald Trump has imposed 'reciprocal tariffs' on dozens of countries with which the US has a trade deficit. Since assuming office for his second term, Trump has reiterated his stance on tariff reciprocity, emphasizing that his administration will match tariffs imposed by other countries, including India, to "ensure fair trade". Post that, India and the US initiated talks for a just, balanced, and mutually beneficial Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) in March this year, with an objective to complete the first stage of the Agreement by October-November 2025. Faced with tariffs, during the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a statement that the government is examining the impact of tariffs and will take all necessary steps to safeguard the nation's interest, the ANI news report said. On India's import of crude oil from Russia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) made its position clear, stating that India's imports are meant to ensure the disbursal of affordable energy to the Indian consumer. MEA also said that the targeting of India is "unjustified and unreasonable".
