'It has been deserved' - what's behind 'remarkable' turnaround?
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Steve Hodge has been explaining what has sparked the club's "remarkable" turnaround, one year on from the Reds receiving a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.Speaking on BBC Radio Nottingham's Shut Up and Show More Football podcast, Hodge said: "It's down to lots of different people. It's not just those on the pitch, but also those off the pitch - recruitment-wise and management staff."Everybody deserves a lot of credit around the football club. It is remarkable. I don't think anyone who thinks they know football would have had Nottingham Forest even in the top half of the table this season."So, as we approach April, to be in the top four or five for the whole season with 16 wins in the Premier League - that takes some doing. It has been deserved. I think everyone appreciates that this side have done a great job."They do need to keep their main players fit because they will still have issues with their squad depth and strength if some of those main players get injured, so touch wood on that."The success this season is down to the improvement of the players, the improvement in recruitment, how they have gelled together, the management and how the staff have structured the team."Also the players being self-motivated and happy with each other, wanting to run through brick walls for each other, gets results like they have got so far this season."Listen to the full podcast on BBC Sounds

'I have no doubt there's other players in the squad that will get themselves into the Premier League as well. Obviously it's us four at the minute and hopefully we can try and push the lads and bring them up to the standard that we're going to set.' Northern Ireland are preparing for Saturday's friendly away to Denmark and Tuesday's match at home against Iceland, but their eyes are already on September when they begin their World Cup qualifying campaign with an away double-header against Luxembourg and Germany, with Slovakia also in Group A. Playing in high-pressure games like the Championship play-off final is valuable experience ahead of facing the likes of Germany, and Hume said: 'I think it will help us deal with the atmosphere a bit better. Obviously, the calibre of players will be a lot different. I think we will try our best to deal with that. 'I think the games against Luxembourg and Slovakia are going to be really important for us. I think they will all be like cup finals. 'I feel like we have a real opportunity this year to go and put ourselves in a strong spot to qualify.'

Two wins for Wrexham on opening day of Soccer Tournament
For the third consecutive year, Wrexham are playing in the winner-takes-all, million-dollar seven-a-side event in Cary. Competing in Group F, Wrexham opened their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Real Athletico. Returning as a guest player for Wrexham for the third time, George Boyd hit the winning goal against debutants Athletico. Boyd - the tournament's all-time top goalscorer - was the Target Score Time hero once again as he sealed success. Former Reds' striker Jake Hyde had earlier scored two goals in normal time, either side of Athletico's equaliser. Wrexham built on that win by beating AFC Bournemouth 6-2 to progress to the knock-out stages. Boyd grabbed a brace - one was a goal of the tournament contender with a stunning volley - in the victory. Academy graduates Aaron James and Callum Edwards were on target, along with Sak Hassan, as Wrexham led 5-0 going into Target Score Time. Bournemouth struck twice in the extra period, but former Premier League champion Marc Albrighton got the all-important sixth goal. Wrexham face Pat McAfee's CONCAFA FC in the final group game today and will then take part in the knock-out stages for the third consecutive season. The tournament runs until Monday while Wrexham Red Dragons' women's side begin their campaign against Ultrain today before facing Drunken Moneys and Kansas City II tomorrow in their last two matches of the group stages.

Championship: Title favourites Ipswich lose star striker
Chelsea have signed Liam Delap from Ipswich on a deal until until 2031 after triggering his £30million release clause. Kieran McKenna's side will be aiming to return to the Premier League at the first attempt following their relegation but will do so without Delap. An agreement was reached between the clubs last week for the England under-21 international, who becomes the Blues' first summer signing and can join immediately due to FIFA's 10-day June transfer window. That will enable him to take part in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States, though if he travels with the team it will means he will miss the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia. The 22-year-old said on the club's official website: 'I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach. 'It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.' Chelsea reportedly fended off interest from Manchester United, with the lack of European football next season for the Old Trafford side understood to be a factor in the player's decision to pick west London. Enzo Maresca's side will play in the Champions League after finishing fourth in his first season in charge, the first time the club has qualified for Europe's top competition since 2022. Delap's signing means the pair will be reunited after working together with Manchester City's under-23 team while Maresca was in charge during the 2020/21 season, and latterly with the senior squad when the Italian was assistant to Pep Guardiola. Delap made only six first-team appearances for City, scoring once, before loan spells with Stoke, Preston and Hull. Despite Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League, which made his release clause active, he adapted quickly to the top flight by scoring 12 times in his first full season in the division – comfortably his best goal return – having spent most of his senior career in the Championship. Chelsea have been stretched thin in attack this season, with injuries to Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu leaving the team without a fit striker for periods of the campaign. Of those two, only Jackson has scored in the Premier League and the need for credible competition and support for the Senegal international has long been apparent.
