Pant ruled out of England series: Gambhir

Manchester, July 28 (UNI) Star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been officially ruled out of the ongoing Test series against England, India head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed today, even as he praised Pant's unmatched grit and character displayed during the campaign. 'Rishabh has already been ruled out of the series,' Gambhir said, ending speculation about a potential return for the final Test. But the former opener reserved special words for the injured cricketer, recalling the unforgettable moment when Pant batted despite a fractured foot. 'What he's done for the team, and for the country, is something generations will speak of. Batting with a broken foot isn't something many have done. Any amount of praise won't do justice to that courage.' Gambhir added that Pant's contribution has laid a strong emotional and cultural foundation within the current Indian team setup. 'This team's character is being built on efforts like those. His fighting spirit has inspired the entire group,' he said. While Pant's absence will be felt, the Indian camp received a major boost on the fitness front, with Gambhir confirming that all fast bowlers are currently fit and available for selection. 'There are no injury cases among the quicks. Everyone is match-fit,' he stated. With India trailing 1-2 in the series and one match to go, the team will head into the Oval Test with momentum from their gritty fourth-Test draw and the assurance of a full-strength pace attack—even if one of their biggest match-winners watches from the sidelines. Indian batters Gill, Rahul, Pant, Jadeja create history vs England, first time in 93 years by...

Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. (PIC - X) New Delhi: In the ongoing Test series against England, Indian batsmen have scored runs at a rapid pace. Four batters of Team India have scored 400 or more runs in this series. The fourth Test match in Manchester was drawn and now the Indian team will try to win the last Test match at the Oval to end the series at 2-2. The Indian team troubled the English bowlers fiercely in Manchester. They got so upset that they were ready to draw the match. However, the Indian batsmen did not listen to them and Ravindra Jadeja as well as Washington Sundar, also completed their centuries. How many runs did the four batters score in the series? This dominance of the Indian batsmen has helped them create history and achieve a feat never done before in England. For the first time since India's Test debut in 1932, four batsmen have scored more than 400 runs in a series. If Yashasvi Jaiswal scores big in the fifth Test match, this figure can reach five. The left-handed batsman has scored 291 runs in eight innings. How did Shubman Gill perform? Shubman Gill: Gill started the series with a century in Leeds. He scored a double century and a century in Birmingham. After struggling at Lord's, Gill returned to Manchester and scored a century in India's second innings. He has 722 runs in 8 innings of 4 matches. His average in this series has been 90.25. How did KL Rahul perform? KL Rahul: Rahul has scored two centuries and two half-centuries in the series. He has faced 998 balls, which is the second highest in the series. He played an unofficial Test match for India 'A' before the start of the series. Rahul has scored 511 runs in 8 innings at an average of 63.88. How did Rishabh Pant perform? Rishabh Pant: Rishabh started the series with two centuries at Leeds; he scored consecutive half-centuries in the next two matches. India's vice-captain struggled with a finger injury at Lord's and suffered an ankle injury on the first day of the ongoing Test. He has scored 479 runs in 7 innings. How did Ravindra Jadeja perform? Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja is performing brilliantly with the bat. His scores are 11, 25*, 89, 69*, 72, 61*, 20 and 107*. He has scored 454 runs in 4 matches.

Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar script great escape

Manchester: Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scripted one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Indian cricket with exceptional centuries, helping the visitors pull off an improbable draw against all odds versus England in the fourth Test here on a riveting behind the eight-ball after England had piled up a record 669 all out in response to India's 358 all out, the visitors' dream of doing the impossible at Old Trafford hinged on how long the overnight pair of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill could anchor the ship. Resuming the final morning on 174/2 and still 137 runs adrift of making England bat again, they faced an extremely arduous task of keeping the series, still locked 2-1 in favour of the hosts, vs England | Stokes fumes as India refuse call for early were on the back foot early on themselves as an inspired Ben Stokes, the man with the Midas touch, removed Rahul (90) in the seventh over of the morning with a cracking in-swinger that stunned the elegant right-hander. Stokes was all pumped up and so were England. And the hosts looked like they would close in on a resounding win when Jofra Archer dismissed Gill, who had just conjured a brilliant 103 despite being struck on the hand and helmet, six minutes before lunch. The lid on the coffin was closed, the nails were hammered with only the final rites to be (101 n.o., 206b) and Jadeja (107 n.o., 185b), however, had other plans with an unbroken 203-run partnership for the fifth wicket where they soaked up all the punches England threw at them at the start before counter-punching bravely as their confidence grew to give this transitional Indian side an era-defining draw. Sometimes in Test cricket, a draw can feel like a win, and the Indians will certainly feel like having survived a gruelling 143 overs to score 425/4. .Ever since Sundar was picked for the second Test in Birmingham, where the track was almost sub-continental in nature, his selection has been widely debated, questioned in fact. Given how batting-friendly surfaces have been in this Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, critics have wanted the management to field Kuldeep Yadav, as they believe the left-arm wrist-spinner could be the X-factor. But Gill has copped the flak and backed Sundar to the hilt for his superior batting repaid the skipper's faith in him with a chance-less innings that was almost as good as Rahul's. Usually accustomed to coming at No. 8, which is an injustice to his talent considering he started his cricketing journey wanting to be a top-order batter rather than an off-spinner, Sundar was promoted to No. 5 this time, ahead of seasoned pro Jadeja. .The pressure was high as Stokes, despite bowling with discomfort in his main right arm, breathed fire. Every ball he bowled, something kept happening, some even spitting off the surface and taking chuffs of wicket along with it. A ball even struck Gill in the bottom hand and crashed into his helmet, chipping a piece of the peak. Stokes even unleashed Jofra Archer, who has an exceptional record against 25-year-old Sundar, though, remained unflustered. He defended brilliantly, nicely reading the line of the ball. At the same time, he didn't get bogged down too, always on the lookout for the singles to keep the scoreboard ticking and England on their toes. .Sundar's cause was helped by the presence of Jadeja at the other end. The veteran, who was dropped off the first ball at slip by Joe Root, made England pay dearly with his perfect blend of defiance and belligerence. Hailed as the 'Most Valuable Player', he marshalled the resources remarkably with the young Sundar before going on to bring up his fifth Test century. Soon after Sundar too joined the party with his maiden ton as Indians rejoiced a great day in box - SCOREBOARD INDIA (I Innings): 358 ENGLAND (I Innings): 669 INDIA (II Innings O/n: 174/2): Jaiswal c Root b Woakes ....................0 (4b) Rahul lbw Stokes ................................90 (230b 8x4) Sudharsan c Brook b Woakes ...........0 (1b) Gill c Smith b Archer .......................103 (238b 12x4) Sundar (not out) ...............................101 (206b 9x4 1x6) Jadeja (not out) ................................107 (185b 13x4 1x6) Extras (B-14 LB-2 NB-6 W-2) ......24 TOTAL (for 4 wkts 143 overs) ...425 Fall of wickets: 1-0 (Jaiswal) 2-0 (Sudharsan) 3-188 (Rahul) 4-222 (Gill).
