The results of
UFC
315 have affected the dynamics of the fighters across the different weight categories of UFC. Islam Makhachev announced the vacating of the lightweight title to move up to the welterweight category after Belal Muhammad lost to Jack Della Maddalena. This has placed
Ilia Topuria
, who vacated the featherweight title long ago, against the top contender of the lightweight division,
Charles Oliveira
, at
UFC 317
. Both fighters will be facing each other for the
vacant lightweight title
. Amidst all these,
Jean Silva
, in his recent statement, expressed a desire to spar with Oliveira ahead of the bout.
Jean Silva lists out the benefits of sparring with him before facing Ilia Topuria, claims to imitate the spanish fighter perfectly
The
headline event
for UFC 317 has been announced after the shocking yet twisting results of UFC 315. The bout will feature the former UFC featherweight Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira in a head-on clash for the vacant lightweight belt. Topuria absolutely wasted no time in trash-talking his opponent as the bout was announced. The fighter, on X, wrote, 'On June 28, another dream will come true. I'll be the champion of the lightweight division. Charles, my apologies in advance… I'm just fighting for my dreams. It's unfortunate that Makhachev ran away. 17-0'.
The fighter is pretty confident about bringing his undefeated MMA record from a 16-0 to 17-0. While the trash talk continues, another fighter from the featherweight division put forward a proposal for Oliveira ahead of their fight at the IFW. Jean Silva, who recently defeated Bryce Mitchell after a long series of heated exchanges between the fighters, in an interview with Ag Fight, expressed his willingness to spar with Oliveira ahead of the title bout. The fighter stated, 'I'm available, I'm the same size as Topuria. If Charles wants to use me as his sparring partner to do his training camp, I'm here. I know how to imitate Topuria perfectly. I even know his facial expressions'

Fans have started reacting to Silva's offer in a mixed way. One of the users wrote, 'I normally don't like Jean Silva but if he's working for Charles getting the belt then 100% I'm a fan'
Another one wrote, 'He's too retarded though, Ilia has genuine fight IQ. This won't help Charles'
'Illia will KO both of them at the same time.'

Topuria has been waiting for the lightweight title shot for a really long time now, and the wait is over with the upcoming UFC 317. Oliveira, since his last win against Michael Chandler at UFC 309, has not stepped into the Octagon yet. Both fighters have established their skills and abilities and are looking forward to conquering the belt at the International Fight Week.

No Fans Turn Up To Welcome Shubman Gill-Led Team India In England: Report

Shubman Gill-led Indian team arrived in London on Saturday ahead of the all-important five-match Test series against England starting on June 20. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video of team arriving in London on its social media accounts. "Touchdown UK. Team India have arrived for the five-match Test series against England," the BCCI captioned the post. Jasprit Bumrah, Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna were in all smiles during the travel. The squad looked charged-up and upbeat for the long tour on English conditions. According to a video on journalist Vimal Kumar 's YouTube channel, there were no fans or media personnel to welcome the team near the airport. Before departing the country, newly-appointed Test captain Gill reflected on the challenges of playing without stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following their retirements from the format last month. "I think there is pressure every time you play and match or start a tour. As such, there is pressure ahead of every series, but there would not be any extra pressure. Rohit and Virat are very experienced players, and it is very difficult to fill the space, but as a team, we have a lot of experience, and we have played a lot of matches," said Gill at the pre-departure press conference in Mumbai on Thursday. "The players and the team are all used to the pressure. We are not that inexperienced players. The batting and bowling combination in our team is very good," said the India Test captain. Gill also talked about his first reaction when he got the news that he would be India's new Test captain and said they have not decided what position he will bat in. He has opened in the previous tours and has also batted at No.3. But with Rohit not there, the team management has to also take a call on who will partner Gill if he decides to open, Yashasvi Jaiswal or Abhimanyu Easwaran, the Bengal opener who is yet to debut. "Firstly, when I came to know that I would get an opportunity like this, at the beginning, it was very overwhelming. It was quite overwhelming with the whole experience. But having said that, I think it is a big responsibility. And looking forward, there is a great chance that we will be presented first. And we haven't really decided on the (batting) position yet. We still have some time. We have a spot match in London. So, we still have time to decide on the batting order," said Gill. India are aiming to win a Test series in England for the first time since 2007. The Test series in England will also be India's first assignment in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.

Spain-Portugal final more than just Cristiano vs Yamal says Ronaldo

Munich, Jun 07, 2025 -Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged he was "another generation" to Spain starlet Lamine Yamal but said Sunday's Nations League final was more than just a battle between the duo. The final in Munich has been framed as a showdown between veteran Ronaldo, 40, one of the game's biggest names, and 17-year-old Yamal, the most exciting young talent in world football. Ronaldo scored the winner to send Portugal past Germany into the final and Yamal was named man-of-the-match after bagging a brace in Spain's wild 5-4 semi-final win over France. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... "There are different generations, one is coming in and another is exiting the stage. If you want to see me as another generation, then that's OK. Live Events "When you talk about a clash between Cristiano and someone else, that's not how it works. The media always try to hype things up, which is a normal thing, but it's one team versus another team." "You've been talking about Lamine a lot and you're right to do so because he's very good," Ronaldo told journalists, adding "but I'd like to talk about the team. "They've got Nico Williams, great midfielders like Pedri and their coach (Luis) de la Fuente is very good, very strong, very disciplined." - 'Funny hair' - Portugal last beat their Iberian neighbours in a competitive fixture in 21 years ago at Euro 2024 , a match which Ronaldo started. Like Yamal, Ronaldo burst onto the scene at a young age. Aged just 18, Ronaldo impressed so much for boyhood side Sporting in a 3-1 win over Manchester United in a friendly in Lisbon that the English club decided to buy him, bringing him to Old Trafford less than a week later. Like a young Ronaldo, Yamal has consistently impressed since bursting onto the scene, winning a league and cup double with Barcelona this season after lifting the Euro 2024 title in Germany last summer. The Portuguese veteran asked media to allow the teenager to grow and improve without pressure, reminding them the Spanish star "with funny hair" was just "three years older than my son". "The kid has been doing very well, but what I ask is for you to let him grow, not put him under pressure. For the good of football, we need to let him grow in his own way and enjoy the talent he has." Both Spain and Portugal have already won the Nations League. Spain are the current champions from their win in 2023, while Portugal won the inaugural tournament back in 2019. dwi/ea

"India will replace the skill side of it...": Ponting on team's transition from Rohit, Virat

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 7 (ANI): Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting expressed that while replacing legendary India batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be a hard thing to do in Test format, they have the quality and skill in their players to cope with this massive task better than other teams. The five-test tour of England, starting June 20 at Leeds and lasting until August 2025, is set to be a heavy one for fans and players alike. With senior stars Rohit and Virat having retired from the longest format of the game, the onus lies on the Shubman Gill-led new-look Indian side to prove themselves away from home in tough English conditions and ensure that Indian cricket is safe. Several newer talents and domestic cricket/Indian Premier League (IPL) performers like Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sai Sudharsan have earned a ticket to the UK as a part of the main squad. Speaking in the ICC Review as quoted by ICC, Ponting said, 'It is always very hard to replace players like that that have been around for so long, that have played that much Test cricket. But if any country can do it and do it quickly, India can because of the amount of young talent that they have.' 'I have seen it firsthand for 10 years around the IPL, and we have seen the emergence of (Yashasvi) Jaiswal and these sorts of guys who have come into international cricket with India and done really well pretty much straight away.' 'The skill side of it is one thing to replace, and I think India will replace the skill side of it easily enough, but the experience is the big thing that will be missing for them. So now, even with a young captain with Shubman Gill, they will still have some experience with KL Rahul and (Jasprit) Bumrah and these sort of guys.' 'But I think if you look at a rebuilding sort of phase, I think India can cope with it better than most other teams,' he concluded. Rohit bid adieu to Test cricket last month, and a few days later, Virat bid his farewell to the format with a heartfelt note on Instagram. Rohit made his Test debut against West Indies in November 2013 and since then, Rohit featured in 67 Tests for India, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 fifties, his best score being 212. He is the 16th-highest run-getter in the format for India. After years of up and down performances, particularly away, the start of the ICC World Test Championship as a proper tournament revived his Test career as he went on to have a prolific run as an opener. In 40 Tests during WTC history, he made 2,716 runs at an average of 41.15, with nine centuries and eight fifties. His best score was 212. He is India's top run-getter, century maker in WTC history and overall at 10th among top run-getters. Whereas, Virat first represented India in Tests against West Indies in 2011 and in the coming years, became the country's biggest ambassador for the longest format, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 in 123 appearances, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties. He is the fourth-highest run-getter for India in Tests. He also made a massive impact as India's most successful Test captain, winning 40 out of 68 matches, leading them to numerous iconic wins overseas. As a leader, he developed a massive roster of fast bowling talent for India and was an advocate for top-level fitness and inculcated in the team a 'win at all costs' attitude and ability to take on their opponents head-on.
