'Important Part Of Not Just My Career, But Also...': Rashford Wishes United The Best Following Loan Switch To Barca
English forward Marcus Rashford made the switch to Spanish champions Barcelona on Wednesday from Premier League side Manchester United on a loan. The clubs reached an agreement for the loan of the forward until 30 June 2026.
Following the transfer to the Catalan side, Rashford addressed comments from former English international Gary Lineker along the lines of the Manchester club being in the wrong as the player fell out of favour.
'The situation with United is that the club is in a period of change for a while now,"
'I don't have anything bad to say about United,"
'It's been an important part of not just my career, but also my life. So I'm grateful for the opportunity to play for them,"
'But football is the same as life and not everything goes as you may have thought,"
'This is my next step, my next chapter and I'm fully focused on this and try to improve myself and hel the team win trophies,"
'I wish United just the best and I hope they are successful in the future,"
United Woes
Lineker had opined that 'Marcus isn't the problem, United are,' for the rocky situation between the club and the player.
Rashford slid down the pecking order at United since December 2024 and went on loan to fellow PL side Aston Villa for the latter half of the bygone season. The Englishman managed to find the net 4 times in 17 outings for the Villans.
Rashford was among the group of players left out of the United squad for the pre-season and the forward was instructed to find pastures anew.

FC Barcelona likely to make decision on Marc-Andre ter Stegen's captaincy after Joan Gamper Trophy
The ongoing saga surrounding Marc-Andre ter Stegen's captaincy at FC Barcelona has captured the attention of fans. As the club prepares for the 2025-26 La Liga season, tensions between the German goalkeeper and the Barcelona hierarchy have escalated, putting his role as captain under intense scrutiny. The crucial decision is set to be made after the Joan Gamper Trophy. The rift between Marc-Andre ter Stegen and FC Barcelona stemmed from a series of events that have challenged the goalkeeper's standing within the club. The 33-year-old, who has been an important part of Barcelona's defense since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, announced he would undergo back surgery, sidelining him for an estimated three months. This timeline, however, has caused friction, as La Liga regulations require a minimum four-month absence to classify an injury as long-term, allowing the club to use 80% of ter Stegen's salary to register new signing Joan Garcia. The club's medical staff countered, estimating a recovery period of four to five months, highlighting a discrepancy that has fueled internal discord. Marc-Andre ter Stegen's public statement about his injury and recovery timeline has been perceived by some within the club as prioritizing personal interests over the team's needs. This sentiment has led to growing calls to strip him of the captaincy. Barcelona's captaincy is traditionally decided through a squad vote following the Joan Gamper Trophy, a pre-season match that marks the symbolic start of the season. However, speculation is that head coach Hansi Flick may face pressure from club officials to intervene and remove the armband from ter Stegen directly, bypassing the usual democratic process. Several factors contribute to this debate. Firstly, ter Stegen's absence at the start of the season due to his surgery means he will likely miss the Joan Gamper Trophy, where the captain traditionally addresses the fans. Second captain Ronald Araujo is expected to take on this role, potentially signaling a shift in leadership dynamics. Moreover, with Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny ahead of him in the pecking order, ter Stegen faces the prospect of being the third-choice goalkeeper, a position deemed incompatible with the captaincy by some board members. Since joining Barcelona, ter Stegen has won 19 trophies, including six La Liga titles and the 2014-15 Champions League. Named captain in August 2024 following Sergi Roberto's departure, his leadership was tested last season when a severe knee injury sidelined him from September to May. Despite retaining the armband during his recovery, his return was marred by public frustration with the club and a refusal to accept a reduced role, creating tension with Flick.

Ben Stokes Becomes Third Cricketer After Garry Sobers & Jacques Kallis To...
Ben Stokes became only the third cricketer to complete 7000 runs and 200 wickets after Jacques Kallis and Gary Sobers. Ben Stokes has been the driving force for England in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Until Friday, he was just the highest wicket-taker of the Test series, but on Saturday, he also broke a two-year drought for a Test hundred. The English skipper launched a brutal assault against the Indian attack, smashing 141 runs with the help of 11 boundaries and 3 sixes. The knock came after a stunning 5-wicket haul in the first innings that sparked India's batting collapse. Thus Stokes became the fourth England cricketer to score a hundred and take five wickets in the same Test, joining the elite company of Tony Greig, Ian Botham — who achieved it five times — and Gus Atkinson. Double of 7000 runs and 200 wickets in Tests Garry Sobers (8032 runs & 235 wkts) Jacques Kallis (13289 runs & 292 wkts) Ben Stokes (7000* runs & 229 wkts)* Stokes' commanding 141 lifted England to 669 all out on Day 4 of the fourth Test, their fifth-highest Test score ever, giving them a formidable first-innings lead of 311 runs. The England skipper, who resumed on 77 not out, had thrilled the crowd with his trademark aggressive strokeplay. Despite not bowling between lunch and tea, a team spokesperson clarified he was fit, having already made an impact with the ball earlier by returning figures of 5-72 in India's first innings total of 358. This knock marked Stokes' first Test century since his exhilarating 155 against Australia at Lord's in June 2023. The 34-year-old celebrated his 14th century in 115 Tests emotionally, clenching his fist, looking skyward, and making a crooked finger gesture in memory of his late father Ged Stokes before acknowledging the crowd with a raised bat. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 21:13 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Sumit Nagal Exits Tampere Open In Semifinals
Sumit Nagal had also finished as a semifinalist in an event in Italy earlier this month. Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal fell short of reaching his first Challenger-level final of the season, losing a hard-fought battle against Sasha Gueymard Wayenburg in the semifinals of the Tampere Open in Tampere on Saturday. Ranked 306, Nagal was defeated 5-7, 2-6 by his French opponent, who is ranked 57 places below him, in the clay court event. At 5-5, 15-all, Wayenburg hit a forehand wide and long, followed by another forehand error, giving Nagal two breakpoints. Wayenburg responded by hitting deep into the corners, opening up the court for winners. He saved the first breakpoint with an overhead smash while Nagal made an unforced error, wasting the second chance. The Frenchman eventually held his serve, forcing Nagal to serve to push the opening set to a tie-breaker. However, Nagal netted a backhand return, giving Wayenburg his first set point. Nagal saved it with a forehand winner on his opponent's right flank. Wayenburg outwitted Nagal on the next point, leaving him wrong-footed and smashing a backhand winner to earn another set point. He secured the set with an overhead smash, pushing Nagal to the back of the court with deep hitting on both flanks. In the second set, Nagal had a chance to take the lead with breakpoints in the first game but could not capitalise. To make matters worse, he was down a breakpoint after hitting a backhand long at 30-all in the next game. Wayenburg did not miss the opportunity and took a 2-0 lead. The French player played smartly, often charging to the net to smash easy winners, quickly advancing to a 3-0 lead. From that point, it was one-way traffic. Nagal equalled his best performance of the 2025 season, having reached the semifinals of an event in Italy earlier this month.
