MONTREAL - Mercedes driver George Russell held off Red Bull's Max Verstappen for his fourth career race win, while McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris collided on Sunday at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Russell started on pole for the second consecutive year in Montreal and held the advantage most of the race on a sunny, 24 C afternoon at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The British driver became the fourth race winner this year, joining Formula One leader Piastri, Norris and Verstappen.
Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli finished third behind Verstappen for his first F1 podium.
The two McLarens came together when Norris, then in fifth, attempted to pass Piastri multiple times on the 67th lap out of 70. Norris ultimately ran into Piastri and fell out of the race, drawing a safety car for the final laps.
Piastri finished fourth, ending an eight-race podium streak dating back to the second race of the season. McLaren as a team failed to reach the top three for the first time this year.

Charles Leclerc won't blame Isack Hadjar for poor Canadian GP qualifying
Charles Leclerc could scarcely contain his disappointment after qualifying only eighth for the Canadian Grand Prix, as the Ferrari Formula 1 driver believed he was in the fight for pole position. On his final tour in Q3, the Monegasque was caught out by a snap at Turn 7 mere moments after setting a purple first sector, which he blamed on the dirty air shed by Isack Hadjar's Racing Bulls machinery up ahead. I don't think he's done anything wrong, but we know how it is. I mean, sometimes depending on where you are catching a car, then this can have a big influence on the lap. According to media reports, he will join the struggling Gucci-owner Kering as the global Luxury group's new CEO. French carmaker Renault announced the departure of its CEO on Sunday evening, saying that Luca de Meo will stay on until 15 July 2025 and that the process to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer has already begun. The Italian CEO has been in office for five years and saw Renault's share price nearly double under his watch as he oversaw a post-pandemic turnaround at Renault.
