MOREHEAD, Ky. (FOX 56) — Baseball is no stranger to Christopher Kidney.
As seen, he wears his team colors with pride, but last month, something told him to open a book about a different one.
'I don't honestly really know what prompted me to pick up a Pittsburgh Pirate book. I mean, I'm a diehard Reds fan and Bengals fan.' Christopher said, 'Just an antique book; I had to pick it up.'
The 1948 Pittsburgh Pirates book was on the shelf at the Morehead Goodwill.
Christopher has been an avid thrifter and reseller for the past two and a half years; as soon as he opened the book, he felt that this was the find of his life.
'On the very first page, after I looked at the copyright, I saw 'Best wishes, Stan Rojek, Honus Wagner,'' said Christopher.

He said he immediately went to check out, knowing that baseball cards of one of MLB's all-time greatest shortstops have created generational wealth due to their rarity.
Honus Wagner made his MLB debut in 1897 with the Louisville Colonels before eventually joining the Pirates. An original Wagner card sold for more than $7 million in 2022. This autographed book is expected to bring in thousands.
'Buying something of that magnitude at a Goodwill, I mean, why would someone donate something like that?' Ashley Kidney, Christopher's wife, said.
Christopher said, that finding out the autograph was authentic, was a home run. 'It would have been disappointing that if it wasn't authentic, but, I mean, my risk in it was $1.59, but knowing it's authentic, I mean, that's when you, you know there's money there.'

The moment is also a reminder of one of his favorite people, Grandpa James Kidney. He owned one of Wagner's reproduction baseball cards before it was stolen.
'Seeing the Honus Wagner signature in that book, it really felt like he was, you know, looking down on me or maybe a divine intervention, and it just really, touched my heart,' Christopher said.
Christopher said although he cannot share this moment with his grandfather, he is sharing it with his family and best friend/mentor Brad Hanneken.
Hannaken, who sells vintage clothing on Depop [Bradsvtg] taught him how to spot a good find.

'Without him and my wife and my daughter, I wouldn't have been able to find that book,' Christopher said. 'I've never found anything as great as this or have had any, I guess, attention towards what I find, and something like this, and having people, I guess, view me, I just assume the sky is the limit with it.'
He is still deciding how to auction the item, but once it is up for grabs, he expects baseball fans to come running and knock the bidding out of the park.

Big Aaron Judge Announcement Made Amid Red Sox-Yankees Series Finale

Big Aaron Judge Announcement Made Amid Red Sox-Yankees Series Finale originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are wrapping up their first series of the season on Sunday night. After the Yankees took Game 1, the Red Sox bounced back with a 10–7 win on Saturday night, setting the stage for an intriguing series finale on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. Advertisement Carlos Rodón will take the mound for the Yankees, while the Red Sox will counter with rookie Hunter Dobbins, who recently made headlines for his comments about the Yankees. 'My dad was a diehard Red Sox fan,' Dobbins said. 'And I've said it before—that if the Yankees were the last team to offer me a contract, I'd retire.' Despite that bold stance, Dobbins has pitched well through the first seven starts of his career, compiling a 2–1 record with a 4.06 ERA and 37 strikeouts. However, he may face his toughest challenge yet with the Yankees. Ahead of Sunday's game, it was revealed that Yankees superstar and AL MVP Aaron Judge currently leads the MLB in both batting average and OPS against rookie pitchers. This will mark Dobbins' first career appearance against the Yankees. This season, Aaron Judge is hitting a staggering .591 with six home runs and a 2.080 OPS against rookie pitchers. While he's having a dominant season overall, he's been especially ruthless against inexperienced arms. Advertisement For pitchers, one mistake is all it takes—and against a hitter like Judge, that mistake often ends up in the seats. He's proven that time and time again this year. New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99)© Brad Penner-Imagn Images Judge has compiled a 4.9 WAR so far, along with a .390 batting average, 92 hits, 21 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a 1.233 OPS. If he continues at this blistering pace, he'll be firmly in the running for another AL MVP—his second straight and the third of his career. Cubs to 'Aggressively' Pursue Starting Pitching and Bullpen at Trade Deadline

Cubs to 'Aggressively' Pursue Starting Pitching and Bullpen at Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After a strong start to the 2025 season, the Chicago Cubs are sitting atop the National League Central. The reason for such early-season success has been the incredible offense the Cubs have put together. But, there is still a need to improve the pitching staff, both in the rotation and the bullpen. Advertisement According to a new report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cubs are expected to be one of the most aggressive teams at the MLB trade deadline. Nighengale writes, "The Cubs are seeking a front-line starter and relievers," as the teams trade targets. With Justin Steele done for the year, Javier Assad dealing with a setback in his recovery, and Shota Imanaga also banged up, the Cubs have a clear need in the starting rotation. There may not be a lot of options on the table at starting pitcher, but the Cubs have the Minor League prospects to beat out the competition for a top-of-the-line starter available on the market. Chicago Cubs pitcher Justin Steele (35) looks on after throwing a pitch against the Athletics during the second inning at Sutter Health Szczepanski-Imagn Images After Corbin Burnes suffered a season-ending injury, the Arizona Diamondbacks could move Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly at the trade deadline. If the Boston Red Sox fall out of it, they could move Walker Buehler. There will be options available, but the Cubs will have competition for those arms. Advertisement The same goes for the Cubs' desire to aggressively pursue bullpen help. This comes after the Cubs' bullpen had the best ERA in baseball among bullpens in May, with an impressive 2.37 ERA. Even more impressive, the Cubs' bullpen since April 19th has been the best in baseball, allowing the lowest ERA (2.46), the fewest home runs allowed (7), the lowest batting average (.191), and the lowest WHIP (1.04). Despite the Cubs' bullpen putting together such a strong stretch, there is still concern over the long-term viability of the bullpen. Adding an arm, especially a top-end talent like Mason Miller or Pete Fairbanks, would elevate the Cubs' bullpen ever further. After a great start to the year, the Cubs are expected to be aggressive at the MLB trade deadline. With a stacked offense, the Cubs will look to improve their bullpen and add one of the top starting pitchers available on the market.
