Gamescom Co-Organizer Says 'Maybe There's No Need' for a US Version of the Show

Every year, nearly half a million games developers, publishers, journalists, and gamers descend upon Cologne, Germany for Gamescom, the world's largest gaming event. The show has been running for over 15 years, and is set to return next week, with a massive turnout expected.
In the years since Gamescom's inception, the show has expanded outside of just Europe — in 2021, Gamescom expanded to Asia, and now holds an annual show in the region, while 2023 saw the introduction of Gamescom Latam in Brazil, which has been expanding ever since.

With Gamescom seemingly becoming the only name left in the game for big gaming events around the world, many have wondered if a US Gamescom show could be on the cards, especially in the wake of the collapse of E3. Unfortunately for many in the US, that doesn't seem to be on the cards anytime soon, in part because, as its organizers say, Gamescom is already reaching a global audience without it.
In an interview with DBLTAP, Felix Falk, the managing director of co-organizer German Games Industry Association – also known as game – said that a US version of Gamescom could happen if the US industry really wants it, but that it probably wasn't necessary.
"I don't know honestly," Falk told DBLTAP. "If the industry in the US wants a global event with us – that would be something they would need to decide if they do want this. Maybe there's no need for it while everyone comes to gamescom, and this is the global main event. Because, as [Gamescom director Tim Endres] just said, after having 64 countries participating in gamescom last year, it's 72 now – the international reach is growing every year. It's the global event for the games industry already."
Falk said that there was an opportunity in Southeast Asia and Latin America to reach a network of developers and games associations that otherwise wouldn't be included in these big gaming events, creating an appetite for more localised events. The result was Gamescom Asia, which is set to take place in Thailand later this year, and Gamescom Latam, which was held in Sao Paulo in May.
"I think it's a question of what the industry needs," Falk said. "In Southeast Asia and Latin America, we were in close contact with our partners there and with the industry, not only our members, but also the local industry, with the associations, noticing that there is a need for a global event like gamescom joining forces with local events and making a gamescom Asia and gamescom LATAM."
Gamescom is set to take place in Cologne, Germany next week, from August 20 to August 25, 2025. The show will officially open with a livestreamed presentation from The Game Awards' Geoff Keighley called Opening Night Live, set to take place at 2pm EDT on August 19.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be the next entry into the military FPS franchise, and just like every year, it typically comes out in October, making it one of the last big game releases before Black Friday. A leak suggests that the new CoD might come out a little later than usual, but still in time for the big shopping day. A spokesperson for the franchise said in an emailed statement that details about Black Ops 7 will be officially revealed at Gamescom Opening Night, which is happening on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Call of Duty series release dates typically straddle the late October and early November period. The last CoD game to come out mid-November was Black Ops Cold War, which was released on Nov. 13, 2020. It's unclear if the later in November release was due in part to the Battlefield 6 release date of Oct. 10, which would allow for some padding time between the releases of the two popular military FPS games. The lack of a Switch 2 version at launch could mean that the team working on that version of the game needed some more time before its release. While the original Switch has become too underpowered for modern games, Nintendo boosted the performance of the Switch 2, which makes it capable of running more graphics-intensive games, potentially including Call of Duty. Black Ops 7 will still likely release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on launch day as it does every year. In Black Ops 7, players will jump into the role of David Mason, played by Milo Ventimiglia. The year is 2035, and Mason is struggling with hallucinations of enemies from his past. The character was first introduced in 2012's Black Ops 2 and was also in 2024's Black Ops 6. While other Call of Duty games tend to focus on certain eras of warfare, such as World War II and the Iraq War, the Black Ops series focuses on secret missions typically conducted by the US and range from the Cold War era to more modern and even futuristic times. Black Ops 2 took place in 2025, while Black Ops 6 was set in 1991.

However, the owner assured everyone the dog did not stop because he knew when he reached his treat limit. He only stopped because someone started walking toward him. And if not, the icing evidence on his face and video proof would've been what did him in. She added cake to the "long list of things he's gotten in trouble" for eating without permission. Other people suspected the two dogs worked together to set up the family, calling it "organized crime." They joked that the sick dog only went outside to throw up to draw attention away from the other canine. Planned or not, it worked. The whole family had been tricked, as no one thought for a moment what the Labrador might be getting into. From that point on, this pet parent needs to keep her head on a swivel. Kanye West's former Malibu mansion back on the market for $34.9 million — three years after rapper gutted the architectural gem
Kanye West's hollowed-out former home is back on the market for the fourth time in five years. The concrete Malibu mansion designed by world-renowned starchitect Tadao Ando relisted this week for $34.9 million, just months after going into contract. West made headlines in 2022 after he gutted and subsequently abandoned the iconic residence. This most recent listing, first reported by marks yet another period of uncertainty in the box-like home's unhappy history. GC Images The crowdfunded real estate firm Belwood Investments snapped up the property in 2024 for just $21 million — $14 million less than what West originally asked. The firm, helmed by developer Steven 'Bo' Belmont, began an ambitious restoration of the property, installing all new framing, plumbing, roofing and electrical work. Belwood's 500-plus investors were set to receive an early payday after the firm listed the semi-restored property for $39 million earlier this year. It quickly entered into contract with Mazzella's company Andrew Mazzella Ventures LLC in March for an undisclosed sum upwards of $30 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. Mazzella made a cash offer on the still-windowless 'Little Ando,' the outlet reported, with plans to finish and relist the property for between $55 to $65 million.
