Businessman is found not guilty of assaulting Miss Universe finalist girlfriend as jurors break down in tears
Chloe Othen, 34, had claimed defendant Ricky Lawrence, 33, dragged her by her hair and repeatedly bit her after sending her a barrage of abusive messages.
Ms Othen, an Instagram influencer with 284,000 followers, said she feared she would die at Lawrence's £1.5million Knightsbridge apartment in west London.
Lawrence was accused of punching Ms Othen 30 times but was today cleared of assault at Aldersgate House Crown Court in London, having insisted a love rival beat her up.
Lawrence and Ms Othen had been in an 'on and off' relationship for six months between December 2021 and May 2022, the court heard.
He had sent her messages saying, 'You f***ing stupid c**t, you're f***ed now I swear, I will do anything in my power to f***k up the rest of your life, screenshot that', jurors heard.
Giving evidence, Lawrence denied claims he repeatedly bit, kicked and punched the model at his home in the early hours of October 15 2022 - and claimed Hatton Garden jeweller Bora Guccuk, 41, was responsible for Ms Othen's injuries.
Lawrence, who runs Lawrence & Winslade bespoke tailors in Knightsbridge, denied and was cleared of assault causing actual bodily harm after an eight-day retrial.
Some of the jurors were in tears after they acquitted Lawrence following five hours and 12 minutes of deliberations.
Model and Instagram influencer Chloe Othen (above) had told a court she thought she would die after saying Lawrence 'beat the cr*p' out of her - he has now been acquitted
Smartly dressed in a grey suit, bearded Lawrence appeared emotional as the unanimous verdict was announced as he looked over to supporters at the back of the courtroom.
Mr Guccuk recently stood trial at Oxford Crown Court for converting or transferring criminal property following the theft of an 18-carat 'Bog of Gold' from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.
He denied any knowledge of the theft of the glittering lavatory pan stolen by Jimmy Sheen, 40, and Michael Jones, 38 - and was cleared of the charge by a jury in March.
At Lawrence's trial, Ms Othen gave evidence from behind a screen as she described their relationship as 'narcissistic', adding: 'You are addicted to the highs and lows - it is euphoric.'
Ms Othen, a finalist in Miss Universe GB in 2015, said Lawrence beat her up and pinned her down, as she told the court: 'I genuinely thought I'm going to die.'
She added that the attack left her with six bite marks and as a result she needed a 'tetanus shot and antibiotics.'
Ms Othen confirmed that she fell pregnant by Lawrence but had an abortion.
She described her on-off boyfriend as 'crazy' and said he even pursued her while she was at the Cannes film festival and at the Greek island of Mykonos with friends.
She added: 'When you are in a narcissistic relationship it's very hard to get out of. They tell you they are obsessed with you, that they love you - you just feel special.
'I didn't understand it completely until I saw a therapist about it.'
She said that when Lawrence started sending her abusive messages on the night of the alleged assault she tried to not allow them to affect her.
She said: 'I tried to just have a method where I don't let it affect me - I'll just stay calm, be like whatever. I asked him if he was drunk - he said he was sober.'
Ms Othen said she initially had not wanted to go to his flat because she was 'genuinely scared to go there'.
She told the court: 'It is not the first time it had happened. He had spat at me, kicked me. But never on the level that happened in October. I never foresaw that.
'When I got to his flat I walked in and sat down and spoke to him. I saw the look in his eyes and I saw they were black.
'I genuinely thought I was going to die - I genuinely on my life thought that. He stole my phone. He grabbed me, put me in a bear hug and then just punched me and thumped me.'
She said that her phone then rang and Lawrence answered it, as she said: 'It was ringing, ringing. When he answered it he had already started beating me up.'
'I screamed, "Please call the police, Ricky's going to kill me". He punched me numerous times, kicked me, strangled me.'
She said that she went to a window and tried to catch the attention of a member of the public and 'signalled to a passerby to come and help me'.
She told the court that one of the bites on her neck had become septic and that she had seen a private doctor and had to have antibiotics.
Ms Othen insisted it was Lawrence and no one else who caused her injuries, saying: 'When I arrived at the hotel my friend saw me battered and bruised completely.
'There is no way that in seven minutes anyone else could have done that to me. The only person who did those injuries to me was Ricky Lawrence.'
Following his arrest, Lawrence had wept and said: 'This is ridiculous. She's ruining my life. I asked her to leave.'
Lawrence later gave police a prepared statement in which he confirmed his relationship with Ms Othen began in January 2022 and ended four months later 'because she aborted my child.'
He added: 'She had been drinking quite heavily throughout the relationship. I no longer wished to be with her.
'Since the end of our relationship she has initiated contact with me and has met up with me.'
Lawrence insisted that Ms Othen turned up at his home on October 15 2022, saying: 'I told her to leave - I didn't want any trouble with her or her partner.
'I repeatedly told her to leave. She began to scratch and hit at me.'
Lawrence said he received a lengthy scratch on his abdomen, adding: 'I didn't use unlawful violence against her.
'I believe the allegations are malicious as she didn't want to end her current relationship.'
Giving evidence in court, Lawrence claimed Ms Othen had confided in him that Mr Guccuk was violent towards her - and that at one point he had seen Ms Othen with a red mark on her face.
He added: 'She had a mark on the side of her face. It looked like a footprint. It was a round mark. It was a red round mark.
'She always described the relationship as violent. She said he used to beat her up, things of that nature.'
Asked by Tom Wyatt, defending, whether he had ever bitten anyone, Lawrence replied: 'Absolutely not. I'd never even had a fight'.
Francesca Allen, 28, who appeared on series five of Love Island, dated Lawrence in 2018 and wrote a character statement as part of his defence.
She said: 'As a boyfriend Lawrence was very kind. He always wanted to do things for me, he always wanted to do fun things together.
'He has a lovely close relationship with his parents and grandparents and I could tell he wanted that same relationship with a partner.
'I've never known Ricky to aggressive he would never shout back at me, he would always calm me down.
'I've never seen him be violent towards anybody and this wouldn't change if he was drinking. He is just always happy. I've never seen him let things get him down.'
In his closing speech, Mr Wyatt told jurors it was a case of 'one word against another' - and said that if Ms Othen had been assaulted for up to an hour by Lawrence, as she claimed, 'it would be a case of grievous bodily harm, perhaps attempted murder'.
Mr Wyatt added: 'She seems to live an extremely high end lifestyle. Her career seems to be going out to put it on Instagram. Bora was funding her lifestyle.'
The defence lawyer said no one was suggesting Ms Othen was not assaulted but claimed Mr Guccuk was responsible for her injuries.
Mr Wyatt added: 'She couldn't risk losing the man who paid for her lifestyle.'
Lawrence, of Knightsbridge, denied and was cleared of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Police finally arrest man for throwing sex toy that struck 12-year-old girl at WNBA game
The man accused of hurling a sex toy toward the court during a New York Liberty game - striking a 12-year-old girl - has finally been arrested, police confirmed. Officials say the suspect has been identified as Charles Burgess, 32, of Dayton, Ohio. He was taken into custody by New York Police Department officers on Wednesday, facing two counts of assault in connection with the bizarre incident. According to court and police records, it remains unclear whether Burgess has been formally booked or if he has retained legal counsel. At the start of the month, NYPD launched a search for Burgess, over a sex toy-throwing incident that occurred during the Liberty's game against the Dallas Wings. Officials confirmed that they were seeking out a man - pictured wearing a 'Beavis and Butthead' t-shirt - who is believed to have taken part in the disturbing trend. According to Crime Stoppers, the man was seen throwing a green sex toy from the stands, during a New York Liberty game on Tuesday, which struck a 12-year-old girl. Police have now revealed that the suspect fled the scene on foot and remained on the run until Wednesday. According to the New York Post, one fan said: 'The object was thrown from someone much higher up but definitely in the same section. 'When it landed, the girl started screaming/freaking out (understandably) for like 30 [seconds] and got the attention of most people within the surrounding rows'. Security footage from the Barclays Center showed the man - who has tattoos up and down his arms - wearing a red and black hat as he walked through the arena. Unlike in other incidents that have plagued the league, the sex toy did not make it onto the court and officials were reportedly able to dispose of the item swiftly. Meanwhile, earlier this month, two individuals - including an 18-year-old - were arrested over similar indecent acts in the last week. Kaden Lopez, 18, was booked into jail on suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault and public display of explicit sexual material following the game between the Mercury and Sun, Fox 10 Phoenix has reported. While the toy did not reach the court, it allegedly hit an adult male victim who was attending the game with his nine-year-old niece, according to a court document. The moment of Lopez throwing the object, described as a 'green dildo', was captured on video, and the teen was tackled by an arena volunteer before being detained by police. Lopez allegedly apologized for the act, saying it was 'stupid prank that was trending on social media.' It is also alleged in court documents that he bought the toy on Monday - just one day before the game. Days prior to that, Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested for allegedly throwing sex toys onto the floor of two WNBA games last week

Hotels braced for a wave of protests: Up to 30 targeted as residents turn up heat to follow Epping precedent
A wave of protests are set to sweep the country this weekend targeting migrant hotels. Anti-immigration campaigners are looking to ride on the back of this week's landmark judgment that saw the High Court order the removal of migrants from a hotel in Epping, Essex. Protests at up to 30 hotels are believed to be planned as communities seek to replicate the ruling for The Bell Hotel, which, pending an appeal, must be closed within weeks. The hotel had been at the centre of protests after an asylum seeker living there was charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl, which he denies. Hotels in Cannock, Chichester and Tamworth are among those expected to be targeted by demonstrations, with anti-racism groups already organising counter-protests in 15 locations across the three-day Bank Holiday weekend. They are prepared to turn up tonight in the likes of Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Leicester, Leeds, Orpington, Perth, Aberdeen and Altrincham. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has used Epping as a rallying cry, saying: 'Let's hold peaceful protests outside hotels and put pressure on councils to go to court to try to get illegal immigrants out.' On Tuesday, a judge granted a temporary injunction against migrants being housed at The Bell Hotel after Epping Forest council argued that it was necessary for 'the safety of nearby residents' and to reduce the threat of 'violent protests'. As it tried, unsuccessfully, to intervene in the case at the eleventh hour, the Home Office argued that granting Epping's application 'runs the risk of acting as an impetus for further violent protests'. The ruling threatens to collapse Labour's asylum system as protesters take to the streets and councils across the country prepare to hit the Home Office with copycat litigation over the use of hotels in their areas. Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has written to all Conservative councils pledging support for any legal action, while Reform UK's leaders have encouraged people to protest at their local asylum hotels. But anti-racism groups have warned the ruling sets a 'dangerous precedent', with Stand Up To Racism saying that it will 'embolden the far-Right to call more protests outside hotels housing refugees'. Labour grandee Lord Falconer urged the Home Office to appeal against the Epping judgment on Thursday as he admitted the ruling 'causes great problems' for the Government. The peer, who served as justice secretary under Sir Tony Blair and as Sir Keir Starmer's shadow attorney general, said it 'gives rise to the expectation that some asylum hotels can be closed'. Lord Falconer said the ruling presents Labour with a 'very troublesome issue, namely does demonstrations outside these hotels lead to it being more likely that they will be closed'. Urging the Government 'very strongly' to appeal, he told Radio 4's Today programme: 'It puts the courts and the politicians in a difficult position. 'There should be clarity on that and the authority in relation to that can only come from the Court of Appeal.' The Home Office still could not say whether or not it plans to appeal on Thursday. But pressure was mounting on the Government as all Tory councillors were sent a draft motion, produced by the Conservative Research Department and the Conservative Councillors' Association, 'strongly urging' them to follow Epping's example. It included instructions on how to influence their local authorities. Stevenage became the latest Labour-run council to say it would consider taking legal action over an asylum hotel in the Hertfordshire borough as the internal revolt grew. The council had already warned a Novotel hotel it must stop housing asylum seekers or face planning enforcement action, and on Thursday said it was 'actively investigating alleged breaches' as it considered legal action similar to Epping's. Ministers were scrambling to find contingency plans to house migrants, with officials looking at houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), empty tower blocks, disused teacher training colleges and old student accommodation as alternatives. The asylum minister, Dame Angela Eagle, told the Commons home affairs committee in June that the Government had shifted its focus from old military barracks to smaller locations such as tower blocks. However, the Guardian reported officials are still considering placing people removed from hotels in the RAF Wethersfield base in Essex and Napier Barracks in Kent. Meanwhile, it was also reported that asylum accommodation contractors working for the Home Office have contacted property specialists, seeking 5,000 residential units in towns and cities to house migrants. But a Government minister could not answer when quizzed on where asylum seekers should go instead of hotels on Thursday. Asked 'where will they go?', schools minister Catherine McKinnell said: 'Well, I mean, that's a big question.'

Shocking moment huge ‘Wild West' brawl erupts in middle of street before machete-wielding thug tries to stab two men
THIS is the horrifying moment a thug pulled out a machete during a mass brawl in the middle of a residential street. The brawl broke out on Showell Green Lane in Sparkhill, Birmingham at around 7.30pm on August 13. 7 7 7 7 One of the men involved in the fight is wielding a machete, which he uses to try and stab two of the men. He can be seen in the video wearing a grey sweatshirt and black track suit bottoms. Several men are forcefully pushed into cars lining the residential street. The man rushes into the fight, knife drawn, as he tries to slash at a man wearing a white vest. It appears to strike him on the back before the assailant walks away from the brawl. As a group of men tumble to the ground during the fight, the knife-wielding thug can be seen standing near the bus stop. He begins waving the knife in the air as the fight escalates. Once some of the men get up from the ground and start walking away, the man with the knife rushes towards the two still struggling. Another man intervenes, moving him to the other side of the road as the fight breaks apart. A backlog of cars has piled up as the mass brawl blocks the road. Wild video shows brawl on Carnival Cruise ship as passengers throw punches in row over 'chicken tenders' Others motorists were forced to swerve around the men, with blaring horns heard in the video. The cause of the fight is currently unknown after it broke out in a garden, with other men brawling in the road. Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured despite attempts by the man wielding the weapon. One unnamed witness said: "It was like a Wild West saloon brawl, there were bodies everywhere as the men rolled around the ground fighting." They said that the men had been "talking in a quite animated way" before the fight broke out. "From then on it was just carnage. All hell broke loose. There were fights breaking out all over the place." They added that the area is mostly populated by families, and that fighting like this is "pretty shameful". Although the witness didn't see the weapon during the fight, he said after seeing the video: "It's frightening to think that there are morons like this walking around with weapons - he could easily have killed someone or caused them serious injury." 7 7 Another resident said that they were afraid to go out at night because of how dangerous the streets have become. Witnesses in the video can be heard criticising the group. One can be heard saying "Take the beef home" while another adds "F***ing stupid". The fight ends just as quickly as it began, with most of the men driving away. Following the brawl, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said that four men, aged 23, 22, and two aged 20, had been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They have since been bailed with strict conditions while enquiries continue. Police have asked witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting crime number 20/342846/25.
