
Kuwait U-16 basketball team opens Gulf Cup qualifiers against UAE
The qualifiers will follow a single round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the Asian Junior Cup Finals scheduled for August in Mongolia.
The Kuwaiti squad, led by head coach Dr. Talal Al-Qallaf and assistant Yahya Al-Bahr, enters the tournament after three weeks of local training followed by an intensive training camp in Cairo, where the team played five friendly matches to fine-tune preparations.
Among the standout players in the squad are:
Abdulaziz Al-Mutawa, Fareej Al-Freej, Omar Al-Saleh, Musaed Al-Obaidi, Mishaal Al-Azmi, Abdulrahman Al-Qatifi, and Abdullah Al-Jarid.
Mishaal Mohammed, Board Member of the Kuwait Basketball Association and National Teams Director, expressed confidence in the team's readiness.
'We prepared well, and the training camp was successful. The technical staff worked hard to correct mistakes from the Cairo friendlies and ensure the players are in peak condition. We are aiming to compete for top spots and qualify for the Asian Finals,' he said.

Al-Arabi players pose after victory. -- KUNA MALDIVES: Al-Arabi Football Club secured an important victory on Tuesday against hosts Mazia Sports Maldives with four unanswered goals in the Asian Challenge League play-offs at the Maldives National Stadium. Al-Arabi opened the scoring early through their professional player Ewal in the third minute with a powerful shot after a run down the right wing. His teammate Ngui added a second goal in the 41st minute after a cross that he powerfully shot into the net, giving Al-Arabi a comfortable 2-0 lead at the end of the first half. In the second half, Al-Arabi left no chance for their hosts to come back after Christopher John scored the third goal with an individual effort in the 54th minute, allowing Al-Arabi to dominate the game. In the 88th minute, Hussein Ashkanani scored the fourth goal after a pass from his teammate Youssef Majid, who shot powerfully at the goalkeeper, ending the match with a clean 4-0 victory. Abdullah Hani secures third at the Egypt International Squash Championship
CAIRO, Aug 12: Abdullah Hani, a member of Kuwait's national squash team, added another achievement to the federation's record by finishing third in the Under-17 category at the Egypt International Championship. The prestigious junior tournament concluded the day before yesterday at the Madinaty Club courts in Cairo. Abdulrahman Al-Sanea was the tournament's dark horse, surpassing expectations by reaching the quarterfinals and finishing sixth out of 128 players. Hani also made headlines by defeating the fourth seed, Yassin Bayoumi, 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Both players were guided by coaches Majid Khan and Falah Faiz, with fitness coach Ahmed Al-Sayed supporting their preparation. The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Secretary General Hamed Al-Omran. At the closing ceremony, top players gathered alongside Egyptian Federation President Amina Al-Tarablusi. Al-Omran presented her with a commemorative shield, and she expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti Squash Federation for its significant role and active participation in the event.
