PWD minister inspects proposed library, museum sites in Tirunelveli
Tirunelveli: State public works department minister (PWD) E V Velu, on Monday, inspected a site in Palayamkottai identified for constructing a
state-of-the-art library
for Tirunelveli city.
Addressing reporters after the inspection, Velu said that the chief minister announced a new library in Tirunelveli at the cost of 100 crore, in line with new libraries coming up in Coimbatore and Trichy. The state govt has opened Kalaignar Library in Madurai, said Velu.
The state govt gives a lot of importance to education and knowledge-related infrastructure, which includes libraries. The library in Tirunelveli would be constructed in such a way as to benefit the people of southern Tamil Nadu. Medical, engineering, and regular college students would benefit from the library to be constructed in Tirunelveli city, said Velu.
The library would be provided with a mini theatre, auditorium, and facilities for the differently abled. The blueprint of the library would be prepared soon and would be sent for the approval of the chief minister. "We would call tenders for the construction soon," said Velu.

Earlier, the minister inspected the Porunai museum, which is being constructed at Kulavanigarpuram in Tirunelveli. Elaborating on it, Velu said that the construction work is underway and the museum is likely to be inaugurated by the chief minister in August, he said.
After Keeladi, the state govt is constructing a 54,000sqft Porunai museum to display the archaeological items discovered in the excavation sites in southern Tamil Nadu, namely at Korkai, Adichanallur, and Sivakalai. The museum premises, spread over 13 acres, would have several attractions, including a handicraft gallery, artificial pond, fountains, and open auditoriums.
