Mizoram CM inaugurates 17th Digital Transformation Conclave
Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], May 17 (ANI): The 17th Digital Transformation Conclave, jointly organised by the Department of ICT, Government of Mizoram, GovConnect, Google Cloud, and Ilouge Media, was inaugurated by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma at the Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall, Aizawl, on Friday.
The event was graced by Vanlalthlana, Minister for ICT, as the guest of honour.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of affordable and accessible digital services for the public.
He noted that digital governance is not only convenient but also cost-effective for both citizens and the government. Mizoram's commitment to this cause has been demonstrated through the launch and implementation of various digital platforms.
Some key initiatives mentioned include the Mizoram State Public Grievances Redressal & Monitoring System, Kai Apps, RAMP - MSME Facilitation Cell and Portals, SDG Dashboard for tracking all villages Sustainable Development Goals, MPLAN - Mizoram State Project Monitoring Dashboard, e-RAM for online tax and revenue services, online ILP (Inner Line Permit) system, and Aizawl Civil Hospital's online OPD registration.
He also hinted at several other upcoming initiatives, like government e-offices and others.
He affirmed that the collaboration between Mizoram and the rest of India in the field of digital services will bring continued progress and benefits.
He expressed gratitude to all individuals, companies, and senior government officials who took the time to participate in the event.
Referring to the recent hacking of a Mizoram Government website, the Chief Minister assured the public that the site has been swiftly and securely restored. He called for vigilance among all users, especially those managing government sites, and stressed the importance of cybersecurity awareness.
In his speech, Dr. Vanlalthlana, ICT Minister, also thanked the organisers and acknowledged the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in today's world.
He emphasised that it is becoming a necessity not only for businesses but also for families concerned about their children's safety. He called for robust and inclusive internet services and secure data storage through cloud technology to ensure access for all.
The Minister reiterated that digital development is a key component of the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and is crucial for India's progress, including that of Mizoram.
The conclave served as a platform for dialogue and presentations on digital advancements and featured remarks from Khilli Ram Meena, Chief Secretary, Government of Mizoram; Anil Shukla, Director General of Police, Mizoram; and Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary, New, Emerging and Strategic Tech. (NEST), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India; Puneet Yadav, Additional Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Government of India; Lokesh Lohiya, Head - State Governments and PSU, Google Cloud.
The inaugural session was chaired by Amit Sharma, Secretary, ICT, Government of Mizoram, who also extended his appreciation to all participants. Fahim Hag, Co-Founder & Director of Alliance, Ilouge Media, elaborated on the rationale behind organising the conclave.
In the afternoon session, both government and private sector experts continued with discussions and presentations on how digital services can drive development across the state. (ANI)

CCPA protection directs E-Commerce platforms for self-audit within 3 months to detect Dark Patterns
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued advisory to all e-commerce platforms to take necessary steps to ensure that their platforms do not engage in deceptive and unfair trade practice which are in the nature of Dark Patterns. All e-commerce platforms have been advised to conduct self-audits to identify dark patterns, within 3 months of the issue of the advisory, and take necessary steps to ensure that their platforms are free from such dark patterns. The e commerce platforms, based on the self-audit reports, have also encouraged to give self-declarations that their platform is not indulging in any dark patterns. The self-declarations by the platforms will enable fair digital ecosystem along with building trust between consumers and e-commerce platforms. CCPA has also issued notices to e-commerce platforms in some cases that have been found violating the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns. All e-commerce platforms are therefore, advised to refrain from deploying deceptive design interfaces that mislead consumers or manipulate their decision-making. The Authority has been keeping a close watch on the violation of the Guidelines issued for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns. The Department of Consumers Affairs, Government of India constituted a Joint Working Group (JWG) comprises of representatives from concerned Ministries, regulators, Voluntary Consumer Organisations and NLUs. The mandate of this JWG is examine and undertake measures to identify violations of Dark Patterns on e-commerce platforms and share the information with the Department of Consumer Affairs on regular intervals. The JWG shall also suggest appropriate awareness programmes for creating awareness amongst the consumers. As part of the Government's broader strategy and ongoing efforts to strengthen consumer protection in the digital era and curb unfair practices in e-commerce and online services, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India had notified the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns in 2023 and specified 13 dark patterns, namely: False urgency, Basket Sneaking, Confirm shaming, forced action, Subscription trap, Interface Interference, Bait and switch, Drip Pricing, Disguised Advertisements and Nagging, Trick Wording, Saas Billing and Rogue Malwares.

Train links are a welcome now release prisoners on Eid to reduce Dil Ki Doori: Mirwaiz to Modi
ANI Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that if the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'Dil Ki Doori' then humanitarian steps like release of prisoners need to be taken immediately. Mirwaiz while addressing a Friday gathering here at historic Jama Masjid in downtown Srinagar said that train links are a welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure. On the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, Mirwaiz said that for thousands of families in J&K, the festival brings no joy. 'Their sons, husbands, fathers and brothers have been incarcerated for years—many without trial—in jails within and outside J&K. And each passing day, more of our youth are detained,' said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat chief said that all such prisoners, including political leadership, remain in the prayers and thoughts of the people. Mirwaiz urged Government of India that a goodwill gesture be made on the occasion of Eid, by releasing these prisoners. 'If the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'dil ki doori' (distance of hearts) which he often mentions in his speeches, then such humanitarian steps are the real way forward. Train links are welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader also condemned the tragic and inhuman killing of 30-year-old Zubair Bhat of Ali Kadal, Srinagar, who was working in New Delhi. "The incident is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. Zubair's custodial-like death—allegedly at the hands of Delhi police as claimed by his family—has brought back haunting memories of such deaths and raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of Kashmiris residing or working in different parts of India," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader said that the killing has sent shockwaves through the community and added to the prevailing fear and anxiety among the thousands of Kashmiri students, professionals, traders, and labourers living outside J&K. 'After the recent Pahalgam incident, Kashmiris across the country are increasingly facing hostility. And now, an innocent young trader has been killed in cold blood. How long will this go on?' Mirwaiz asked. The Hurriyat leader urged the Government of India and the Union Territory administration to fulfill their constitutional responsibility and ensure the safety, security, and dignity of all Kashmiri citizens, especially those outside the region. 'The silence and inaction only embolden those targeting Kashmiris,' he also made a heartfelt appeal to civil rights organisations, writers, intellectuals, and conscientious citizens of India to raise their voice against "the growing onslaught on Kashmiris and to stand up in solidarity with the victims of such brutality."
