Mets' Buttó goes on 15-day injured list with unspecified illness. Senga to make rehab start Saturday
NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets reliever José Buttó was put on the 15-day injured list Friday with an unspecified illness. 'We're not going to get into the details of it out of respect of Buttó, but we don't anticipate this being a long term,' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'We expect him to be back right after the All-Star break.' Mendoza said he didn't anticipate that Buttó will need to go on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. A 27-year-old right-hander, Buttó is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 31 relief appearances, the last a two-inning outing at Pittsburgh last Saturday. New York recalled right-hander Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse. Brought up for the fourth time this season, the 34-year-old right-hander has made four appearances for the Mets. Right-hander Kodai Senga, sidelined since June 12 by a strained right hamstring, is to start a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Binghamton. He is to throw 60-65 pitches, according to Mendoza, and soon could return to New York's injury-ravaged rotation. 'We'll see how it goes tomorrow and then see how he responds and we'll have a decision after that,' Mendoza said. New York didn't have an update on reliever Dedniel Núñez, who was put on the IL on Thursday because of a sprained right elbow sprain and could require Tommy John surgery for the second time. WASHINGTON (AP) — Trevor Story homered and drove in four runs as part of a four-hit day, Lucas Giolito pitched 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball in his first game against the team that drafted him and the Boston Red Sox routed the Washington Nationals 11-2 on Friday. Jarren Duran had three RBIs for Boston, which collected 16 hits and has won four of six since enduring a season-worst six-game skid. Washington was denied its first three-game winning streak since taking four in a row on May 28-31. Giolito (5-1) allowed four hits and three walks while striking out seven, surrendering Luis García Jr.'s sacrifice fly in the sixth. He is 2-0 with an 0.61 ERA in his last two starts. The right-hander was the Nationals' first-round pick in 2012 and debuted with the team four years later. Washington traded him to the Chicago White Sox in December 2016. The Red Sox broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. After Boston loaded the bases, Wilyer Abreu walked in a run to make it 3-0 and Story ripped a two-run single to center to chase Washington starter Michael Soroka (3-6). Story hit his 13th home run of the season in the eighth, a two-run blast to left off Ryan Loutos. Soroka allowed seven runs and struck out six in four innings, matching his shortest outing of the season. LUCERNE, Switzerland (AP) — Wales coach Rhian Wilkinson and midfielder Angharad James celebrated their country's first ever press conference at a women's major tournament at Euro 2025 on Friday. Wales press officer Owain Harries informed assembled journalists of the premiere and was rewarded by a round of applause and cheers. Wilkinson and James laughed and clapped, while Wilkinson did a little dance in her seat before the questions started. Advertisement 'This is it,' said Wilkinson, a former Canada player and assistant coach. 'I can't wait for the bus to arrive, to watch these women walk out onto the field, to see where they're going to get, to step on and make history.' Wales, the lowest-ranked team in the competition, makes its uropean Championship debut against the Netherlands in Group D on Saturday. The Welsh threatened to qualify for major tournaments in recent years but it took a playoff win over Ireland to make the dream a reality. 'It's been something that we've always strived to achieve, and we've always come short but not anymore. We're here,' James said.
