Top 20 places British teens want to go on a school trip - with the UK making the list
A survey of 1,000 pupils from year 7 to 13 revealed that 37 per cent would prefer an overseas excursion with their classmates, while 23 per cent would actually rather stay in the UK.
Despite the USA leading the list of desired destinations, the UK secured the second spot ahead of Italy, France and Spain, with attractions like Buckingham Palace (25 per cent) and Big Ben (22 per cent) being the most appealing.
For 29 per cent of the youngsters an educational trip was their first experience of staying away from home, and for 17 per cent, it was their first time travelling abroad. This could explain why nearly half of parents believe school trips help their children learn independence.
The study, commissioned by PGL Beyond, also discovered that educational trips offer more than just adventure and travel, with 48 per cent of young people claiming these trips make them feel more independent and mature. Parents echo this sentiment, with 47 per cent agreeing that school trips aid their child's independence.
Confidence, independence and teamwork are among the skills children have gained the most through school trips. Additionally, a sense of adventure, communication and problem solving also made the list.
Dr John Allan, head of impact & breakthrough learning at PGL Beyond, said: "At a time when young people seem to be cocooned in virtual worlds, school trips are a vital part of their healthy upbringing, opening up real experiences that deliver personal growth and lifelong impact
"Authentic challenges at home or abroad enable children to reflect and gain perspective – to see beyond the immediacy of their personal experience and to focus on the wider world around them."
The study also asked parents about their own school trips and found 41 per cent feel today's school trips are more extravagant and exciting today than in their day.
For them, their favourite excursion memories include sharing a room with classmates, visiting new cities, and taking part in activities.
Today's school trips are so inspiring three in 10 young people surveyed said they've influenced the subjects they choose to study, with history and geography emerging as the most popular.
Alison Sudbury, chief customer officer at PGL Beyond, added: "What truly matters for any child, is the confidence gained on a first trip away from home: the curiosity sparked in a new city, the friendships built, the comfort zones stretched, and the moments that shape who they become.
'That's why school trips are so instrumental in helping young people to achieve key breakthroughs which can impact their life now and in the future.'

Tourists have been banned from swimming along a seven-mile stretch of Costa Blanca because of sea creatures with a potentially fatal sting. Red flags have popped up on Spanish beaches after blue dragons, nicknamed the 'most beautiful killer in the ocean', appeared. The sea slug, also known as Glaucus atlanticus, eats the deadly Portuguese man o' war and other venomous sea beasts. The blue dragons quickly absorb the stinging cells from their food and store them, giving them a far more potent sting than their prey. Typical symptoms of the blue dragon's sting include nausea, pain, vomiting and acute allergic contact dermatitis. Guardamar del Segura mayor Jose Luis Saez said the sea ban order will remain in place until further notice. 'Bathing is prohibited following the appearance on Vivers Beach of two specimens of Glaucus atlanticus, known as the Blue Dragon,' he said. He added: 'We remind people that despite its bright and striking colour and its small 1.5-inch size, they should stay away from this animal because of its sting. 'Guardamar del Segura Town Hall has launched a preventive operation to detect possible specimens carried by ocean currents. Town hall workers are closely following the evolution of the situation and will inform people about the different measures to be taken.' Beachgoers have been urged not to touch the creatures, even with gloves on. If you stumble across one, alert lifeguards. Saez added: 'If you get stung, wash the area affected with salt water and head to your nearest first aid point or health centre. These creatures are poisonous and their stings can cause nausea, pain and vomiting.' Despite the warnings, Vivers Beach was full of people yesterday, though fewer were seen in the sea. Lifeguards will remind tourists and locals today about the ban, according to local reports, although sunseekers will still be allowed to head to beaches if they don't take a dip in the sea. Last month, a huge chunk of skin was torn off the leg of an Italian pensioner as lifeguards ordered people out of the sea at the British holiday hotspot of Majorca. Can you change a name on a flight booking? Rules for different airlines explained

And when it comes to passenger names on a booking, getting these right is key if you want everything to go smoothly at the airport. So whether you need to correct a typo or transfer a ticket to a different person entirely - here are the name change rules for different airlines, made simple. 6 Ryanair allows name changes up to two hours before if made at the airport Credit: AFP Ryanair Low-cost airline Ryanair allows changes to names up to 24 hours before a flight's departure time if processed online, and two hours before if done at the airport desk. Both of these options will incur a name change fee: £115 on the website and £160 through an agent. If you notice a minor mistake within 48 hours booking you can correct up to three characters in a name free of charge - but more substantial or later changes will carry a price tag. Maiden and married names are the exception here. Ryanair will amend a name at no extra cost if your surname has changed on the document you are using for travel. Editing a booking to be in someone else's name is also possible, but not if one of the flights on the booking has already departed (for example, if you are already abroad and trying to make changes for your return flight). Those name changes that fall within 48 hours of booking and over 24 hours before flying can be made on the Ryanair website or app by clicking 'Manage this booking' and selecting 'Change a name'. But if you're already checked in, you'll need to contact the airline and pay the slightly higher price. easyJet easyJet also allows name tweaks, letting passengers correct titles and spelling mistakes of up to three letters without any fee. 6 easyJet name changes can be made for £60 Credit: Alamy The airline is slightly more lenient than Ryanair with this, as it does not have a time limit of 48 hours after booking. You can do this on either its website or app under 'View Bookings'. Changes of more than three characters or a whole name can also be made, but a fee will be applied per passenger, per flight. The cost is £60 for online amendments and £65 for going through the customer service team. And in the event of needing a very last-minute change, easyJet gives you a little more time than Ryanair by allowing requests at the airport desk up to 90 minutes before departure. Jet2 British airline Jet2 has a more restrictive policy when it comes to name changes. Only the lead passenger can make edits and absolutely no changes are allowed after check-in. It does have the same three letter rule as easyJet and Ryanair - allowing minor tweaks for free - but the fee that applies for more major changes can end up being higher. While amendments made 14 days or more ahead of the flight time only cost £50, changes made after that will cost £150 plus any fare difference since the booking was made. This means that if the price of your flight has gone up and you request changes just days before your trip, it could be significantly more costly than £150. Jet2 also does not allow for any name changes within 48 hours of flying, so you have less flexibility. If you are within the permitted window and wish to go ahead with a change it's easy to do this through the 'Manage My Booking' function on its app or website. 6 Some airlines will ask you to also pay the fare difference on top of a change fee Credit: Getty Vueling Vueling is fast becoming a popular choice for budget-friendly flights, with many European destinations on its roster. It also offers different fare options from Basic to Flex. Name change fees for Vueling are dependent on which you have purchased - if you have a Basic plane ticket, a full name swap will cost you €50 (roughly £43). And similar to Jet2, you may also be charged the difference if the price of your flight has increased. However, if you paid for a Flex ticket the total price might be lower as you will only be asked to pay the set change fee, not the fare difference. Small spelling errors can be corrected at no extra cost up to two hours before flying providing none of the flights in the booking have already been taken. Adding middle names or second surnames is also free of charge. This is very important to check as some airlines don't require middle names for a booking, but Vueling's policy is that passenger tickets must match their identity documents exactly. Wizz Air Passengers can access their Wizz Account and go to 'Make changes' if they wish to change a name for their upcoming flight. Typos of up to three letters are free, while ticket transfers to a new completely name cost €70 (around £61). 6 Wizz Air passengers should access their Wizz Account to request changes Credit: AFP This is allowed up to three hours before departure. Wizz Air's call centre is also on hand for anyone who would prefer to make these changes by phone. The airline is accommodating when it comes to changing surnames after marriage or divorce and will amend these for free for any passenger that provides the required documentation. However, its website states that responses to such emails can take up to 30 days, so get in contact as soon as you can if you wish to request this. British Airways British Airways differs slightly compared to more budget airlines. Its tickets are non-transferable, meaning passengers are not able to change an entire name on a booking and will instead need to cancel and re-book the ticket. This will likely cost significantly more than any flat fee. However, unlike other carriers, BA has a 24-hour grace period. Customers have one day to completely cancel their flight free of charge, giving them the option to get a full refund and make a new booking in this time frame. Free spelling corrections of up to three characters can be made by contacting the BA customer services team.

Blogger Kalani Ghost Hunter delighted shoppers with his observations about British supermarkets An American who visited Tesco for the first time was wowed by the differences between UK and US supermarkets. Blogger Kalani Ghost Hunter documented his family's shopping experience on his popular TikTok account @Kalanighosthunter. In his video, he was accompanied by his mum, who had never visited any UK supermarkets before. Kalani explained: "This is the first time my mum has ever been in a UK grocery store, and I want to show her the cheese aisle. "Okay, so take a look at all the different kinds of cheese they have. This one's really good here if you like a very strong blue cheese that's a solid one." His mum replied: "They're got more varieties of cheese than we've got. It's like they have a lot more produce than we have to." She added that she thinks the groceries are cheaper. Continuing his Tesco shop, Kalani went on: "Now, mum, this is the weirdest thing. They have eggs on the shelf, not refrigerated." She replied: "Wow. Yeah, big difference. It means they're fresher eggs." Next, Kalani turned his attention to the meat on offer. "This is something that I've really struggled to find back home in America, when I'm trying to do a fry up, is back bacon. Here, there's plenty of variety for back bacon, but at home, it's really hard to find. With back bacon comes the sausages. It's hard to find this style of sausage at home. There's a lot of different sausages, but it's hard to find this style." He was also impressed by a meal for two offer. "I've never seen this," the shopper shared." It's a Tesco meal for two. Sweet and sour chicken and chicken chow mein in a box. There's even prawn crackers up top. That's crazy, £6.50. I mean, I don't know how it tastes, but for two people, that's wild." Last but not least, the American family stopped by the toiletries aisle to pick up Lynx Africa body spray. The video went viral, gaining over 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Several viewers were amused to see the family had added Lynx Africa to their shopping list. One viewer replied: "Lynx Africa is a right of passage for all young UK teens!!" Another wrote: "Ha! Lynx Africa is like catnip for tweens!"
