Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to visit Monterey Bay Aquarium? Here's what we know

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has extended an invitation to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce after the famous couple chatted about rescuing sea otters during their viral 'New Heights' podcast episode. 'I want a wild otter so bad,' the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and podcast host declared during the more than two hour-long segment, released Wednesday, Aug. 13. He added that he frequently watches videos of sea otter rescues. But what began as Kelce's aspiration, Swift noted, has now become a shared interest — and the seaside aquarium quickly took notice. Monterey Bay Aquarium communications director Isabel Lara told the Chronicle that they have already reached out to Kelce's team about arranging a future visit. 'He's joked about being his girlfriend's plus one and our person went along with the joke and said the invitation was for him but that he was welcome to bring a 'plus one,'' Lara said. Several employees have already volunteered to give Kelce and the pop superstar a tour of the 320,000 square foot facility, which has spent more than 40 years working to restore the sea otter population. Lara also said the aquarium has expressed interest in partnering with Kelce and his team for Sea Otter Awareness Week on Sept. 21-27. 'We know Kelce is busy with his day job in September,' she said, referring to the start of NFL season next month. 'But if they want to do a special episode … we'd be happy to send them information.' Rosa, the Monterey Bay Aquarium's eldest sea otter, was euthanized in June after suffering several age-related conditions. She was 24, one year older than the maximum lifespan for the species. Now the world famous aquarium is home to four otters, according to its website. Each was stranded as a pup and raised onsite because they can no longer live in the wild. During the 'New Heights' episode, Swift humorously revealed that Kelce specifically wants to befriend an otter 'whose life he saved.' Swift, in explaining the dream scenario, described Kelce spotting an otter with its paw caught in a shell, 'and he's, like, 'I got you.' And then the otter is, like, 'Thank you forever,' with its little paws.' The occasion marked the 'Anti-Hero' hitmaker's podcast debut, and her return to the spotlight after wrapping up her record-breaking Eras Tour last year. In addition to chatting about sea otters, she spoke with the show's hosts, Kelce and his brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, about post-tour hobbies, her first Chiefs game and her forthcoming studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Swift even gave fans a sneak peek of the art and tracklist for the record, due out Oct. 3. The episode drew more than 1 million viewers and briefly crashed the live YouTube stream. It has since set the record for most concurrent views on the platform for a podcast, with more than 18 million views as of Monday, Aug. 18.

Gal Gadot clarifies comments about pro-Israeli stance causing ‘Snow White' to flop

Gal Gadot is backtracking her recent comments about why 'Snow White' flopped. During her appearance on the Israeli TV show 'The A Talks' on Thursday, the 40-year-old actress stated that anti-Israeli sentiment in Hollywood caused the Disney remake to completely bomb at the box office in March. 'I was positive the movie was going to be a huge hit. And then Oct. 7 happened, and what happened all over in different industries, not just Hollywood, there was a lot of pressure put on celebrities, actors, creators to post against Israel,' Gadot said. 'I was honored to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart,' she wrote on her Instagram Stories. When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way,' the Israeli star continued. 'They saw me, first and foremost, as an Israeli, not as an actress. That's the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question.' Gadot added: 'Of course, the film didn't fail solely because of external pressures. There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed.' Gadot, who played the Evil Queen in 'Snow White,' explained on 'The A Talks' that she believed the movie's success was 'affected' by the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. 'I can always explain and try to give people in the world context about the situation and the reality in Israel, and I always do that,' she shared. 'But at the end, people make up their own minds. And I was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that and that it didn't do well at the box office.' Advertisement 9 Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler in 'Snow White.' The Disney flick, which was directed by Marc Webb, cost between $240 million and $270 million to make but only grossed around $205 million. The film suffered criticism for using CGI to create the seven dwarfs, while Gadot and her co-star Rachel Zegler created controversy after voicing opposing views about the conflict still unfolding in Gaza. 9 Gal Gadot, Rachel Zegler in 'Snow White.' 'I really enjoyed filming that movie, I really had fun. Even working alongside Rachel Zegler. We laughed and we talked, we had fun,' the 'Wonder Woman' actress said. 9 Gal Gadot. gal_gadot/Instagram Advertisement 9 Rachel Zegler attends a 'Snow White' screening in New York on March 20. It was also reported that Disney had to beef up Gadot's security due to her pro-Israeli stance. Zegler, for her part, dealt with backlash for calling the 1937 original movie 'dated' and 'weird.' She also referred to the Prince character as a 'stalker.'

Gal Gadot blames anti-Israel pressure on Hollywood for Snow White flop

Actress Gal Gadot said the live-action Snow White remake floundered at the box office due to pressure in Hollywood to criticize Israel, during a recent interview on Israel's Channel Keshet 12 program "The A Talks." "I was sure that this movie was going to be a huge success, and then October 7 happened — and what's happening in all kinds of industries, and also in Hollywood — is that there's a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel," Gadot said. The Israeli actress spoke out about the movie's failure during a wide-ranging interview with journalists who are all on the autism spectrum. "Snow White" grossed $205 million worldwide, falling short of its reported $270 million budget. Gadot played the Evil Queen, while Rachel Zegler starred as Snow White. The film was mired in controversy, largely stemming from Zegler's inflammatory social media posts. In November 2024, after President Donald Trump was re-elected, Zegler posted, "May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace," and "F—k Donald Trump." She previously wrote "And always remember, free Palestine" beneath a trailer for "Snow White" in August 2024. Producer Marc Platt reportedly flew to New York to plead with her to take down the post, but Zegler refused. Amid speculation that there was tension between the two actresses, Gadot, who is an IDF veteran, claimed on "The A Talks" that the two shared a lot of laughs together, and she enjoyed working with her. "I even enjoyed working with Rachel Zegler. We laughed, we talked, and it was fun," Gadot said. Anti-Israel sentiment has spread like wildfire since Hamas launched their Oct. 7 attacks, which killed more Jews in a single day since the Holocaust. "You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what's happening and what the reality is here, but in the end, people decide for themselves. I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office," Gadot said. Disney didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
