Conor McGregor involved in spat with Games of Thrones actor over Gaza aid boat
The yacht, which includes activist Greta Thunberg among its 12-member crew, was intercepted by Israeli authorities in the early hours of Monday morning and is now en route to a port in Israel, officials have said.
The vessel, named Madleen, is operated by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition and was aiming to deliver aid to Gaza and raise awareness of the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
Madleen departed from Sicily a week ago, with Cunningham among those present at its launch.
The Dublin actor has been a vocal critic of the Irish Government's response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Arguing that the Irish Navy should protect the aid-carrying vessel, Cunningham said last week that these charity missions were doing the work governments had failed to do.
Cunningham said: "They are doing the job that we are supposed to be doing, the people who are supposed to respect international law."
"There should be a flotilla of Irish naval vessels standing up for our international law and treating international law with the respect it deserves, not this wonderful, disparate group of people who have got together to put their lives in danger because they're not being backed up.
"There should be a European force circling that boat to ensure that they get there, because that is their legal responsibility."
When news broke in the early hours of Monday morning that the flotilla had been intercepted by Israeli authorities, the 64-year-old voiced his anger on social media.
Cunningham wrote: "The Freedom flotilla was attacked during the night. The ship was rammed, boarded and the 12 volunteers kidnapped. This is more reprehensible behaviour from the genocidal regime in Tel Aviv."
In a reply to the actor's post, UFC fighter McGregor appeared to mock Cunningham for not making the journey himself.
McGregor wrote: "I thought you were on this boat Liamo, what happened? You forgot your goggles? You get sea sick off the gargle? Bottler."
Cunningham immediately shot back at McGregor, though, writing: "Didn't know you could read and write Conor. Thought you used your hands to tap out."
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said the activists on board Madleen were 'kidnapped by Israeli forces' while trying to deliver desperately needed aid to the famished territory.
'The ship was unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted, and its life-saving cargo — including baby formula, food and medical supplies —confiscated,' it said in a statement.

Simon Harris welcomes clarity on EU-US trade deal and pharma tariffs set at 15pc
Mr Martin said it was a 'significant win' for the EU and highlighted the arrangements for the pharmaceutical and aviation sectors. The statement said that as of September 1, the US will apply a maximum tariff rate of 15pc on 'generic pharmaceuticals and their ingredients and chemical precursors'. Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Harris welcomed the clarity the statement offered on the EU-US trade agreement announced on July 27. 'We welcome clarity that the deal includes a single, all-inclusive 15pc tariff on EU goods,' Mr Harris said. 'We also now have assurance that this rate will extend to pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. 'This provides an important shield to Irish exporters that could have been subject to much larger tariffs pending the outcomes of Section 232 US investigations into these sectors.' There is also a 'zero-for-zero' tariff rate carve outs for aircraft and aircraft parts, with further carve outs to be determined for certain products in generic pharmaceuticals and chemicals. Mr Harris said this offered a 'first step' to a more 'comprehensive and formal agreement with the US in the future'. 'Our intention now is to see what other carve outs can be made in areas of interest for Irish exporters,' he said. Mr Martin said the statement brought 'greater clarity and certainty' to what the agreement between the EU and the US will mean in practice. 'This is especially important for enterprises that either import from or export to the US,' he said. 'Given the scale of the pharmaceutical and semiconductor sectors in Ireland, it is important that the Joint Statement confirms that 15pc is a ceiling that will apply to EU exports in these areas in all circumstances, including when the current US Section 232 investigations are concluded. 'While I have been clear all along that I do not support tariffs, this is a significant win for the EU. 'Given the significance of the airline sector to Ireland, a specific carve-out for aircraft and aircraft parts is also welcome. 'There are areas where further work remains to be done, including a potential carve-out for med-tech products and spirits. 'I hope this will be advanced as quickly as possible. We will continue to advocate for these sectors given their significant importance to our domestic economy.'

Dublin Fringe: Meltybrains? return with a wild trip to This-Topia
After an absence of seven years, the Irish cult band Meltybrains? bring their visceral, genre-smashing live show This-Topia to the 2025 edition of the Dublin Fringe Festival, exploring 21st-century digital life through a collaborative ritual of fear, escapism, addiction, collective catharsis and transcendence. Part theatre, part rave, part group therapy - the members of Meltybrains? introduce This-Topia below. Meltybrains? are, in every sense of the word, a cult band. We're five Irish men who started a band with the intention of making great music and putting on great live shows and we've been doing just that for over ten years. In this time, we've built up a reputation for creating imaginative electronic soundscapes, as well as performing highly theatrical live shows with an infectious and incendiary energy. We have played in festivals and venues such as SXSW, Iceland Airwaves and London's St. Pancras Church. Some of our favourite Irish shows include elaborately staged audio-visual spectacles in Dublin's Academy, Button Factory and an Abbey Theatre Show for Dublin Fringe Festival 2018. We're are a group of friends who get together to play music, make art and be a positive influence in each other's lives. We're also a bunch of messers! In the last couple of years, the music we've been writing has begun to reflect the growing anxiety and fear found in global media and popular culture, and a lot of our recent songs contain increasingly dystopian themes. In order to explore these themes in the most expressive way possible, we're putting together, what we hope will be a sensational live performance show – This-Topia! The gig will be big, bright and bold, full of flashing lights and loud noises; part rave, part theatre, part performance art. Of course, there'll be live music and it will be big and bombastic, but there will also be 3D visuals, detailed lighting design, dance, and elements of physical theatre and performance. This-Topia is a 80 minute-long performance piece built on vast, expansive soundscapes, insightful lyrical themes, intensely stimulating visuals and explosive, energetic performances from the band-members and guest performers. Though the subject matter is serious, we're hoping to squeeze a few laughs in there as well! This-Topia is a live musical performance of a set of electronic songs and tracks that deal with the over-bearing themes of catastrophe and apocalypse which are prevalent in contemporary discourse. The show aims to provide entertainment, but also to challenge the audience members, provoke a wide array of emotions, and provide some much needed discussion of our contemporary fears. The songs are about our current society, our often unhealthy relationship with technology, self-surveillance and what we can all do about it. It's a collaboration with director Katie O'Halloran, visual artist Ross Ryder and dancer Jessie Thompson. The gig will be big, bright and bold, full of flashing lights and loud noises; part rave, part theatre, part performance art. If you come to This-Topia, we promise to take you on the most exciting doomscroll you've ever been on; a sensory bombardment of dystopian, cataclysmic themes, a dive into our apocalyptic ideation... and probably a lot of pictures of cats!
