Auto digitalisation takes passenger safety to the next rung, says SP
The Tirupati district police on Monday launched the 'auto digitalisation' project that would bring thousands of auto-rickshaws operating in the district under the eye of the department. The project aims to ensure safety of the passengers as well as reduce criminal activities. Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju launched the project at a programme where QR code printed stickers of A4 size were affixed on 200 auto-rickshaws. Terming the project as the next level of vehicular monitoring, the SP said, 'Passengers hiring the vehicles can scan the QR code with the Google Lens app on their mobile phones and get details of the driver as well as the owner of the auto-rickshaw for their safety'. The details would be made available on the website from where the police or the passenger can track the vehicles. The app also gives passengers options to share their travel details with their family and friends on WhatsApp, track the location/route, give a rating for the driver, make an emergency call, lodge a complaint if needed and get details of the nearest police station. Additional Superintendents K. Ravi Manoharachary (Law and Order), Nagabhushana Rao (Crime), Deputy Superintendents K. Pune bridge collapse: Rs 5 lakh aid announced for families of deceased, says District Collector
Following a bridge collapse in Pune, Maharashtra, the district administration has announced Rs 5 lakh in financial assistance for each of the four deceased's families. Of these, 51 were successfully rescued, and 38 are currently receiving to ANI, Dudi provided an update on the situation, noting that an aerial survey was conducted today to finalize the search operation, ensuring no one remains unaccounted for."A total of 55 people fell due to the bridge collapse. Out of 55, 51 people were successfully rescued. Treatment for 38 people is still going on in the hospital. The condition of all the persons is stable. Unfortunately, four people died, and their bodies have been identified. There is no report of a missing person now. This afternoon, we conducted an aerial survey at the spot to finalise the search operation," Dudi also outlined the formation of a probe team to investigate the collapse, comprising officers from the Irrigation Department, Public Works Department (PWD), Forest Department, and Police. "We have formed a team under the District Collector with officers from the Irrigation Department, PWD, Forest dept, and Police - to probe the incident, bring out the shortcomings, and review the existing SOPs," he said, emphasising the need to identify lapses and strengthen safety he has requested a structural report on all old bridges in the region to assess their condition and prevent future District Collector reiterated a public appeal to avoid visiting such locations during the monsoon season, given the heightened risks."Again, I appeal to the public to avoid visiting such places during the monsoon season. I have asked for a structural report on all old bridges... Financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each will be given to the families of each deceased," he today, a high-level meeting of top administrators of the state was convened, chaired by the State Chief Secretary, Sujata Saunik, at her office, with the Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department Secretary (Roads), Divisional Commissioner of Pune, Pune District Collector, Pune Chief Executive Officer, officials from the Public Works Department, and Pune Superintendent of Police joining virtually.

Infant among three people fatally shot at Utah carnival after an argument; teen involved in incident under custody
WEST VALLEY CITY: Three people, including an 8-month-old infant, were fatally shot at a Utah carnival after two groups got into an argument, police said. Police officers working at WestFest at Centennial Park in West Valley City saw the two groups Sunday night. 'As they approached to break up the altercation, a 16-year-old male from one of the groups pulled out a gun and fired,' the department posted on X. One officer fired back but did not hit anyone. In addition to the infant, a 41-year-old woman described as a bystander was killed, police said. An 18-year-old man in one of the groups also was struck by gunshots and died. Two other teens, a 17-year-old female and a 15-year-old male, were both hit in the arm, police said. It was not clear if they were connected to the groups involved. Their conditions were not known. The 16-year-old was taken into custody, police said. His name has not been released. West Valley City, which has about 134,000 people, is a suburb of Salt Lake City.
