Morocco's Zakaria El Jamari to Take on Japan's Undefeated Hyu on March 23

Morocco World12-02-2025

Casablanca – Morocco's Zakaria El Jamari will face Japanese fighter Hyu at ONE Championship's upcoming event ONE 172: Takeru vs. Rodtang on March 23.
El Jamari and Hyu meet in an exciting flyweight Muay Thai matchup inside the Saitama Super Arena on the global martial organization's return to Japanese soil.
The 35-year-old Moroccan will be desperate to land a big win against his undefeated counterpart in front of his fans as he seeks to arrest his recent slump in form that has seen him lose his last two fights.
After a mesmerizing performance landed him a surprise unanimous decision win against Thai fan favorite Thongpoon PK Saenchai in May 2024, El Jamari suffered two consecutive knockout defeats at the hands of Malaysian Thai star Aliff Sor Dechapan and Colombia's undefeated fighter Johan Estupinan.
However, El Jamari will hope his combative style, diversified attacking arsenal, and never-say-die attitude will help him claim another big win in the organization and break his rival's winning streak.
Beating the 23-year-old Japanese fighter will be far from easy as he has captured 10 wins in 10 professional bouts, including a pair of victories at ONE Championship's weekly fight series, ONE Friday Fights.
Hyu defeated Algeria's Youcef Saad via unanimous decision in September 24 and followed his debut win with an eye-opening second-round technical knockout victory against Portugal's Leandro Miranda at ONE Friday Fights 96 just last week.
ONE 172 marks ONE Championship's return to Japan where it last held the highly successful ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru in January 2024.

Hakim Ziyech's contract with Al-Duhail officially ends after one season

Al-Duhail SC has officially announced the departure of Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech, confirming the end of his contract with the club's first team. In a statement shared on the club's official channels, Al-Duhail stated that Ziyech's contract concluded at the end of the 2024–2025 season, and he will not be part of the team moving forward. The 31-year-old winger joined Al-Duhail in January on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Turkish side Galatasaray. Ziyech has had an eventful career, playing for several clubs since starting out in 2015, including Heerenveen, Twente, and Ajax in the Netherlands, Chelsea in England, and Galatasaray in Turkey, where he featured in 11 matches across all competitions this season. During his time at Galatasaray, Ziyech played five matches in the Turkish Super Lig, three in the Europa League, two in the Champions League qualifiers, and one in the Turkish Cup. At Al-Duhail, he made nine appearances in the Qatar Stars League, scoring once. Al-Duhail finished the current Qatar Stars League season in second place, lost the Qatar Cup final to Al-Sadd, and exited the Emir Cup at the quarterfinal stage after a defeat to Al-Rayyan.

Pyramids Win First CAF Champions League Title With Win Over Sundowns

Pyramids FC have been crowned champions of Africa for the first time in their history after beating South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final. The Egyptian side sealed the title with a 3-2 aggregate win, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Moroccan duo Walid El Karti and Mohamed Chibi both started for Pyramids at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo. El Karti played the full 90 minutes, while Chibi was substituted in the 88th minute after providing an assist. Pyramids opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Fiston Mayele, taking a 1-0 lead into the break. They doubled their advantage early in the second half when Ahmed Samy converted a pinpoint cross from Chibi in the 56th minute. Sundowns pulled one back in the 75th minute thanks to a goal from Iqraam Rayners, but it wasn't enough to stop Pyramids from claiming their maiden continental title. The Cairo-based club, which only joined the Egyptian Premier League in 2014, have now reached the summit of African football. Tags: CAF Champions LeagueMamelodi SundownsPyramids FCSouth Africa

Ziyech Leaves Al Duhail as Qatar Begin Foreign Player Overhaul

Hakim Ziyech has left Al Duhail after just five months, as clubs across the Qatar Stars League begin reshaping their squads following changes to foreign player regulations. The Moroccan international, who joined in January after a short-lived spell at Galatasaray, made 13 appearances for Al Duhail, scoring once and assisting another. His departure was confirmed by the club on Saturday in a short statement thanking him for his efforts. Ziyech is one of several big names to leave the Qatari league at the end of the 2024/25 season. Al Duhail have also announced the exits of head coach Christophe Galtier and striker Michael Olunga. Galtier departs after a season that ended without silverware, while Olunga leaves as the club's all-time top scorer with 123 goals. Elsewhere, Al Rayyan confirmed the departure of five foreign players, including Egypt's Mahmoud Trezeguet, who returns to Al Ahly. Brazilian trio Thiago Mendes, Romarinho and Paulo Vitor have also moved on, along with Paraguayan forward Adam Bareiro and Dutch right-back Joshua Brenet. The exits come as the Qatar Football Association prepares to implement a new rule allowing clubs to register up to 10 foreign players in their 28-man squads. The change is part of a wider effort to strengthen Qatari sides in Asian competitions, particularly as neighbouring Saudi clubs continue to attract top talent with heavy investment. Ziyech, now a free agent, will once again weigh up his options as he looks to revive a career that has seen stops in the Netherlands, England, Turkey and now Qatar.
