TEMPRANILLO (12) battled away when fifth to Meridiana on debut over 1400m on the Kensington before a second to Sisu Spirit here over 1500m. On pedigree, she will relish the step up in trip. DWAYNE (3) placed at his first two starts at Kembla and Gosford over 1500m and 1600m before a two length fifth to Sacro Catino in a Warwick Farm Super Maiden as an odds-on fav. Back to provincial grade and blinkers come off. GOLDEN SMILE (10) is knocking on the door. Has placed on heavy ground.

RACE 2: BOTTLEMART MDN PLATE 1250m
APOLLO RIDGE (1) ran well in his first campaign including back-to-back third placings at Hawkesbury. Kicked off this preparation with a neck second to Tiberius when resuming over 1000m at Wyong. CHIBA (3) was runner-up to Tuned over 1200m here at his second start before a sixth to Snitzanova on the Kensington. Resumed in that same Wyong race when fourth to Tiberius. RUSTEMO (10) debuted with a length fourth to Gobi Desert in the Max Less here last November. Held in the straight when fourth to Matima at Hawkesbury when resuming.

RACE 3: AUSURE HOSPITALITY MDN PLATE 1250m
MAID OF MOOLAH (6) debuted with a handy neck second to Nymphadora in an 1100m Hawkesbury Super Maiden on April 5. Tracked the leader and bumped by eventual winner Silver Wedding when fourth at Canterbury second-up. BLUE WILLOW (2) when back to last from the outside gate and was doing her best work late when third to Rose Of Dubai here on debut. SKETCH (12) settled last of nine on the fence and made steady ground in the straight when a two length seventh to Perle De Chocolat at Warwick Farm on debut.

RACE 4: IMPACT BUILDING MIDWAY (BM64) 1890m
NOVEMBER FALLS (4) made a wide run from the 600m and was claimed in the final 100m by Magicon who had the cart-up at Kembla last start. Gets an ideal run from gate 1 and can go one better. ROCKBARTON ANGEL (8) scored back-to-back barnstorming wins at Quirindi on a good track and Newcastle on the heavy before a sixth to Otium at Scone. Back on his home track will be strong late. PERFECT JUSTICE (5) has a win and three placings from his last five starts and won't be far away again.

RACE 5: THE TOOHEYS NEW PLATE SUPER MDN HCP 1500m
THE BEAST (1) was good in his first campaign with four placings including a second at Hawkesbury over 1600m and a third at Canterbury over 1900m. Handy third in his recent trial at Warwick Farm trial. STAR PREDICTION (3) was a handy second on debut at Port Macquarie and raced keenly when last to Reducio at Wyong. Boxed on for third to Mia Ballerina at Canterbury last start. BACKWARD GLANCE (7) jumped from 1000m to 1400m on the heavy when third to Caltsar here last start.
Bet: The Beast to win
RACE 6: BIDFOOD NEWCASTLE (BM64) 1500m
TAPA KICK (3) missed a place for the first time in his career when fourth behind Hurstville Zagreb at Canterbury on Feb 28 after blundering at the start and was given a let-up. Was an 1800m Highway winner before that. Is a winner at this trip. SCHOLL DEEP (13) has placed third at two of her last three starts and didn't have a lot of luck when seventh here two starts back. Is a winner on the heavy here. MISS SPACEGIRL (12) was just nosed out two starts ago. A win isn't far away.

RACE 7: PITCHER PARTNERS NEWCASTLE & HUNTER PROVINCIAL (BM68) 1250m
LOS PADRES (4) went back from a wide gate and came with a strong run down the outside score in a tight finish when resuming over 1200m at Kembla. Drawn to settle closer and is a second-up winner. SHEHASATTITUDE (5) had difficulty getting a clear run in the straight when second last behind the progressive Candlewick at Warwick Farm first-up from a long spell. Beat Know Thyself at Canterbury to end last preparation and is two from two at the track. FIRST PERSON (9) drop sin grade from here fifth to Lonhro's Queen.

RACE 8: MCCAIN SURECRISP HCP (C1) 1300m
REDUCIO (6) led all-the-way for a handy Super Maiden win from Satin Sparkle over 1200m at Wyong. Settled midfield when third to Bonjour Madame in the Bm64 at the same track. Drops back to a Class 1 here. GORBACHEV (3) also scored a first-up Super Maiden win when a nose winner from Alpine Ski at Gosford. Beaten a length when sixth to Puerto Banus at Wyong. TASORAAY (2) was good in his first preparation with placings at Doomben and on the Kensington before breaking through with a length win on the Beaumont. Wide gate the query.

‘What about the Kingsford Smith Cup horses?': Trainer Joe Pride disappointed Group 1 not rescheduled to Wednesday
Trainer Joe Pride admitted he was 'disappointed' the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup wasn't rescheduled for midweek before ruling his elite sprinter out of the $1 million Eagle Farm race on Saturday. The Kingsford Smith Cup and Queensland Derby were added to the Oaks Day program at Eagle Farm after heavy rain last Saturday resulted in the final five races being washed out. But Pride questioned why only the Group 3 Fred Best Classic was moved to the Doomben meeting on Wednesday and not the Kingsford Smith Cup, too. Pride said Private Eye 's preparation would be compromised if the gelding ran first-up in Saturday's Kingsford Smith Cup and then the Group 1 $3 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 14. 'I'm not going to run Private Eye in the Kingsford Smith Cup and then back up a week later in the Stradbroke Handicap,'' Pride said. 'I don't want to give him a compromised preparation and have a half-hearted go at two Group 1 races. 'I'm disappointed he has to miss the Kingsford Smith Cup but this way we can give him his best chance in the Stradbroke.'' Pride revealed Private Eye returned to Sydney over the weekend as the gelding preferred his training and stable routine at Warwick Farm. 'We will trial Private Eye on Friday at Rosehill and that will give him four barrier trials before his first-up run so I'm not worried about his fitness,'' Pride said. Pride of Jenni's owner Tony Ottobre to keep his lips sealed on retirement talk for champion mare
Scarred by the keyboard warriors who criticised Pride Of Jenni 's second coming, prominent owner Tony Ottobre has vowed to keep his lips sealed when he decides the time is right to retire the champion mare for good. Ottobre made what he admitted was an emotional decision to call time on the triple Group 1 winner's career after she bled when last in the Champions Mile at Flemington in November. But Ottobre changed his mind in the new year and in March, Pride Of Jenni returned with a bang, winning the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield under 61kg. The seven-year-old then flopped in the $2.5m Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington before a 2.25-length victory in the Listed Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield early this month. She was then sent to Queensland for the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m), won by local hero Antino, but faded badly to finish 10th out of 12 runners. It prompted further questions over whether it was time for Ottobre to again hang up the saddle for the Ciaron Maher -trained mare, but the owner insisted Pride Of Jenni would be the one to make that call, not him. 'When she's ready, then we'll retire her. And there won't be any fanfare,' said Ottobre, who told Racenet recently that he had banned himself from social media. 'One day she just won't turn up to the races and that'll be it. 'I've already made an announcement and I tried to apologise to say that 'look, I did get it wrong' but it was 'boo-hoo to you Tony, we're still going to give it to you'. 'Well it'll be 'boo-hoo to you guys' because I'm not going to tell them when she's going to retire so it works both ways. 'I've always talked the truth but now I just have to clam up a little bit because it's not good for my family. 'I don't care, you can bag the s*** out of me but my family – my wife, my son, my grandchildren and my friends – they don't like to see that kind of stuff. 'I just can't believe how bad some people are with their thoughts about horses. It's pretty rank.' 'As far as I'm concerned, bringing her back and winning two out of the races she's raced in was vindication enough to say we were on the money.' Codetta's closing sectionals were the fastest of the day and she can be placed to advantage next start. Island Dec (Race 5 ) was the 'hidden' run of the meeting. She was held up for a run on the turn and had to ease off heels to get to the outside. The race was over at this point but Island Dec ran on to finish only eighth, recording a fast final 600m of 34.27s and closing 200m split of 11.59s. Adam (Hyeronimus, jockey) is adamant that when you can put the bit in his mouth a little bit better, he'll have a better turn of foot. Adam is strongly pushing for Chris (Waller to go to Brisbane with him). He said 'I don't care if I ride him or not but you should be running the horse in the JJ', that's his opinion','' stable representative Charlie Duckworth said. 'Today was my first time on Kerguelen 's back and he really took my eye in the parade. He's a nice horse and gave me a really good feel. He travelled like the winner during the race and to dig in first up at the 1200m like that was a good effort,'' jockey Kerrin McEvoy said. ' King's Secret switched right on today, showed good speed, travelled the whole way and when I asked for him, there was plenty there. He showed a good turn of foot so that's nice to know that he can handle a wet track like that. It's opens more doors going forward,'' jockey Andrew Adkins said. 'Any stakes winner is rewarding but to get two winners back in town today is very satisfying and it helps build that confidence. I've been back at the provincials for a while now and I've had great success there. It's been great for my confidence and now as we head into the winter months, the opportunities to come back and ride in town are opening up and like today, I've made the most of some really great opportunities,' Adkins again after winning the Lord Mayor's Cup on Touristic. â– â– â– â– â– STEWARDS SAY Maori Chief (Race 4) was hampered near the 250m when obliged to shift in away from the heels of Kundabung but was still very disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Pure Alpha (Race 6) was inconvenienced near the 1400m when carried out by Forecast. Pure Alpha had some difficulty obtaining clear running prior to the 200m then just prior to the finish line became unbalanced due to contact from Little Cointreau, which shifted in. Sir Lucan (Race 8 ) was expected to settle in a prominent position, however, due to crowding at the start between Shahzad and Kadavar, Sir Lucan was required to settle near the rear of the field. Kadavar was severely crowded on jumping between Sir Lucan and Speycaster, which jumped in abruptly, and, as a consequence, settled at the rear of the field. Liberty State (Race 10 ), the eventual winner, raced three and four wide and without cover throughout the event. Summer Flame (Race 10 ) was bumped on jumping then travelled satisfactorily through the early and middle stages, however, when placed under pressure she gave no response and made an audible respiratory sound. When Summer Flame commenced to give ground abruptly from the 200m she was eased the filly down over the final stages of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame (1/5) in the off-foreleg. â– â– â– â– â– NSW RACING – THE WEEK AHEAD Monday: Corowa, Warren Tuesday: Kembla Grange, Moree Wednesday: Warwick Farm Thursday: Taree, Wagga Wagga Friday: Dubbo Saturday: Royal Randwick, Newcastle Sunday: Wyong, Sapphire Coast â– â– â– â– â– ROSEHILL SNAPSHOT – RON DUFFICY RUN OF THE DAY Kerguelen resumed off a long spell in testing conditions doing an admirable job winning. He probably has the most upside moving forward to go through his grades. FORGET THEY RAN Pure Alpha hit more than a couple of snags in the run never really getting fully balanced. Given a clear run with momentum he probably would have won. HORSE TO FOLLOW It's hard to get carried away following horses off wet tracks but King's Secret and Liberty State  were both quite dominant in their wins on the day and have more to offer.
