Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's Next India Assignment Likely To Be Rescheduled
India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh in August could be rescheduled because it needs clearance from the Indian government, a senior Bangladesh cricket official told AFP on Wednesday. The series, including three one-day and three T20 matches, is due to start on August 17 in Dhaka. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman told AFP that its Indian counterpart, the BCCI, has informed them the tour might be delayed. The BCCI has not made any comment on the tour.
"The tour is part of the FTP (International Cricket Council's Future Tours Programme), so cancellation is not an option. But it may be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time," Rahman said, without giving further details.
BCB sources said that the tour was awaiting a green light from India's government, reports repeated in Indian media.
The uncertainty follows recent diplomatic tension between Dhaka and New Delhi after Bangladesh's mass uprising toppled then prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.
Bangladesh toured India in September-October 2024 for two Tests and two T20 matches.
This could also be Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's first assignment with the team following their T20I retirements.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Falls 10 Runs Short of Breaking Rahul Dravid's Massive Record
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant 87 on the opening day of the second Test between India and England in Birmingham. Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal narrowly missed breaking the legendary Rahul Dravid's record of becoming the fastest Indian to score 2,000 Test runs by just 10 runs. During the second Test at Edgbaston, Jaiswal needed 97 runs to achieve the milestone in 39 innings, surpassing Dravid, who took 40 innings. However, he was dismissed by England skipper Ben Stokes, who broke a solid 66-run partnership between Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill. Jaiswal returned to the pavilion after a brilliant 107-ball 87, which included 13 fours. In 21 Tests and 39 innings, Jaiswal has scored 1,990 runs at an average of 53.78, with five centuries and 11 fifties, his best score being 214*. In this series so far, he has amassed 192 runs in three innings across two matches at an average of 64.00, with a century and a fifty. In the next innings, Jaiswal has a chance to equal Dravid's record. The fastest to 2,000 Test runs is Australian legend Don Bradman, who achieved it in 15 matches and 22 innings. Jaiswal's performance against England has been remarkable, with 904 runs in seven Tests and 12 innings at an average of 82.18, including three centuries and four fifties, his best score being 214*. A half-century stand between Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill brought India closer to the 200-run mark at the end of the second session on day one of the second Test against England in Birmingham on Wednesday. Despite another shared session due to Jaiswal's dismissal, India stood at 182/3, with Gill (42*) and Rishabh Pant (14*) unbeaten. India began the second session at 98/2, with Jaiswal (62*) and skipper Gill (1*) at the crease. With a double, India reached the 100-run mark in 25.3 overs. Gill and Jaiswal played more cautiously, with the Indian skipper surviving a close leg-before-wicket call against Chris Woakes. Later, Gill relieved some pressure with two boundaries in the 33rd over. The duo was in no rush to score after a solid first session, achieving their fifty-run partnership in 103 balls. The skipper focused on settling in, while Jaiswal toned down his attacking play. Just when it seemed Gill and Jaiswal would end the session together, Ben Stokes produced a breakthrough. With the ball in hand, the England skipper managed to edge Jaiswal's bat, which was caught by wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith. Jaiswal walked back after a brilliant 87 from 107 balls, leaving India at 161/3 in 45.1 overs, ending a 66-run third-wicket partnership. Rishabh Pant came to the crease next, breaking a 22-ball block session with a six off a Shoaib Bashir delivery, while Gill reached the 40s at the other end. Gill and Pant ended the session without any further loss. With ANI Inputs First Published: July 03, 2025, 10:40 IST

Israel-Hamas ceasefire: Trump touts but Gaza truce still has stumbling blocks
The two sides have publicly rejected the other's red lines, making compromise difficult even as humanitarian pressure mounts. Trump and international mediators push for a breakthrough, but mutual distrust and shifting priorities are complicating negotiations read more Women embrace, while mourning loved ones, during the funeral of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire yesterday, as they sought aid in northern Gaza, according to Gaza's health ministry, at Al-Shifa Hospital, in Gaza City. Reuters Hamas has not yet agreed or denied a 60-day ceasefire proposal by the US that President Donald Trump has said Israel has accepted, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not publicly addressed it. It is this lack of overall communication and negotiation that is stalling peace in Gaza. Despite US mediation, Israel and Hamas remain at odds over key conditions for a proposed 60-day cease-fire and hostage release deal. The two sides have publicly rejected the other's red lines, making compromise difficult even as humanitarian pressure mounts. Trump and international mediators push for a breakthrough, but mutual distrust and shifting priorities, like Israel's potential focus on rescuing hostages over military victory, are complicating negotiations. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Eager to resume talks' Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has said that the country is eager to resume negotiations with Hamas over a ceasefire agreement 'as soon as possible'. 'There are some positive signs. But our goal is to begin proximity talks as soon as possible,' Saar told reporters, referring to the details of the ceasefire that still need to be agreed upon through diplomacy. At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday vowed to eradicate Hamas. 'We will free all our hostages, and we will eliminate Hamas. It will be no more,' he said. Hamas said in a statement that it was studying the latest proposals and aiming 'to reach an agreement that guarantees ending the aggression, achieving the withdrawal (of Israeli forces from Gaza) and urgently aiding our people in the Gaza Strip'. Possible terms of the deal A Palestinian source familiar with the ongoing mediated negotiations told AFP that the new proposal on the table shows 'no fundamental changes' compared to earlier terms presented by the United States. This suggests that the underlying framework of the talks remains largely the same. The source explained that the revised proposal includes a 60-day truce. During this period, Hamas would release half of the Israeli captives still alive in Gaza, in exchange for Israel freeing a number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees. As of now, 49 hostages from the 251 captured by Palestinian militants in October 2023 remain in Gaza. According to the Israeli military, 27 of these hostages have already been confirmed dead. 'Trump is desperate': Mamdani counters US president's jibes, says 'will fight back'
Zohran Mamdani, an Indian-origin candidate for New York City mayor, has hit back at US President Donald Trump, calling him 'desperate' after Trump threatened to deport him. Mamdani accused Trump of using personal attacks to distract from his failures. read more Zohran Mamdani, New York's Indian-origin mayoral candidate, has fired back at US President Donald Trump after Trump threatened to deport him, calling the president 'desperate.' Mamdani accused Trump of trying to divide people and using personal attacks to distract from his failures to help working-class Americans. In a video posted on X, Mamdani vowed not to back down, saying he would keep fighting against Republican efforts to silence dissent. 'Yesterday, Donald Trump said that I should be arrested. He said that I should be deported. He said that I should be denaturalised,' Mamdani said during a rally in New York. 'He's saying these things not only because of who I am—a potential first immigrant mayor, first Muslim, and first South Asian mayor of this city—but because he wants to distract from what I fight for. I fight for working people.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Since Mamdani's primary victory, Trump has repeatedly attacked him, calling him a 'communist' and a 'lunatic,' and making remarks about his background. Mamdani criticised Trump for fuelling division instead of addressing the struggles of working-class Americans across the country. He also condemned Trump's major tax and spending proposal, known as the 'One Big Beautiful Bill,' which faces a key vote in Congress on Thursday. More from World Is Zohran Mamdani at risk of losing his US citizenship? Mamdani claimed Trump is attacking him to avoid discussing the bill, which he argues would cut healthcare access and leave more people hungry. His comments come a day after Trump threatened to arrest Mamdani over his promise to limit New York City's cooperation with federal immigration authorities. 'Well then, we'll have to arrest him,' Trump said during a visit to a Florida detention centre, referring to Mamdani's vow not to assist ICE. 'We'll be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation.' Trump also falsely claimed Mamdani might be in the US illegally, saying, 'A lot of people are saying he's here illegally.'
