Prosecutors unveil rape and trafficking charges against controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate
Social media influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been charged with a combined 21 crimes, including rape and human trafficking, in the United Kingdom, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
The Associated Press reported that the charges were authorized in January 2024, when warrants were issued for the arrests of the brothers, who hold dual citizenship in the U.S. and U.K., though they moved to Romania in 2016.
While the warrants had been issued, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the charges announced on Wednesday marked the first time the two had been criminally charged in Britain.
The brothers face a total of 21 charges, with Andrew facing 10 charges related to three women. The charges against Andrew include rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.

The Tates are social media influencers with a following of over 10 million. They describe themselves as entrepreneurs, and Andrew is a former kickboxer and MMA fighter.
Andrew is more well-known than his brother, having drawn a larger following with his unapologetic misogyny that has drawn young men to the luxurious lifestyle he projects.
The two have been accused of luring women to Romania for sexual exploitation in a 2022 case in which prosecutors suffered a major setback after a judge found there were too many problems to bring it to trial.

In a second criminal case opened in August 2024, they are also being investigated for allegedly trafficking underage girls.
In the U.K., they have also been accused of failure to pay taxes.
Andrew and Tristan have denied all the allegations in Romania.
Romanian courts have issued an order to extradite the two to the U.K. once their court case is concluded, British prosecutors said.
The warrant issued by Bedfordshire Police for the siblings dates back to between 2012 and 2015.

The whereabouts of the brothers were not immediately clear.
They were photographed a week ago outside a police station in Voluntari, Romania, where they have to report regularly while facing charges there.

International, the British indie-pop trio's follow-up to The Night, is out September 5 via Heavenly. The new album is led by the single 'Glad,' which was co-written and co-produced with the Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands and features Doves' Jez Williams on guitar. 'We asked Tom if he had any songs in progress that might suit Saint Etienne, and he sent a backing track that he'd been working on with Jez from Doves,' Saint Etienne vocalist Sarah Cracknell said in a statement. 'We fell in love with it straight away, and the top line melody and words for 'Glad' came easy.' Pete Wiggs added, 'The song is about taking pleasure in everyday things like nature and the outdoors when life is otherwise getting you down.' Along with Tom Rowlands and Jez Williams, International has contributions from Confidence Man, Erol Alkan, Vince Clarke, Nick Heyward, Orbital's Paul Hartnoll, and Xenomania's Tim Powell. Formed in London in 1990, by childhood friends Wiggs and Bob Stanley, Saint Etienne put out two singles that same year—'Kiss and Make Up' and their cover of Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart'—before they added Cracknell for 'Nothing Can Stop Us.' All three songs appeared on the band's 1991 debut, Foxbase Alpha, which kicked off a decade-defining run of albums, most notable among them 1993's sophomore effort So Tough, 1994's Tiger Bay, and 1998's Good Humor. Wiggs, Stanley, and Cracknell became beloved for their blend of twee indie-pop and contemporary club sound, which balanced an alluringly cosmopolitan sheen with charm, wit, and approachability. After 2005's Tales From Turnpike House, Saint Etienne took an extended break from recording. Since their return, in 2012, with Words and Music by Saint Etienne, however, the band has consistently put out new records, among them Home Counties (2017) and I've Been Trying to Tell You (2021). According to a press release, 'The group aren't splitting up as such—they still remain the best of friends after 35 years recording together—but they don't feel like they want to go on forever and wanted to go out with a bang.' Woman, accused argued before fatal fire, say neighbours
Neighbours of a woman allegedly murdered by her British house guest recall him telling them of an argument between the pair on the night of her death. Timothy Loosemore is facing trial after pleading not guilty to the murder of Maree Vermont at her rural home at Goldie in Victoria's Macedon Ranges on August 5, 2023. Neighbour Kyman Share, who lived about 500 metres from Ms Vermont, on Thursday recalled talking to a British man covered in soot while the home was on fire. "They had a small argument. He went outside to get firewood and when he came back, the place was on fire," Mr Share told the jury, recounting his conversation with Loosemore. Earlier that night, Mr Share had just finished watching television with his partner about 10pm when they heard a loud popping and crackling sound. "It was extremely loud like an explosion," he told the jury. From his verandah he saw an orange glow in the vicinity of Ms Vermont's home and raced there to see what was happening, the jury was told. Mr Share said he had to turn back to call emergency authorities because of poor phone reception in the area. He said he then raced back to Ms Vermont's home, running into another neighbour Peter Greenham, who had been alerted to the fire by Loosemore. Mr Greenham said he and his wife had been jolted awake by a frantic Loosemore banging on their door asking them to call police and the fire brigade because the house was on fire. Mr Greenham noticed Loosemore was quite blackened by soot and had scratches or marks on his face and blood on his arms or hands. The pair drove to the burning house and Mr Greenham asked the accused what had happened to Ms Vermont. "He said 'we had an argument, it wasn't a big argument, but we had one'," Mr Greenham said. They met Mr Share at the home, which was engulfed in flames. Both men ran around the home several times yelling Ms Vermont's name but were unable to get close because of the ferocity of the fire. Mr Greenham recalled seeing a "very subdued" Loosemore, while Mr Share sat with the British house guest who was "in shock" and repeatedly murmuring he couldn't understand what had happened. The men carried Loosemore to paramedics, noticing dry blood on his cheek and underneath his arms. Ms Vermont's body was found inside her burnt-out home and Loosemore, a British traveller planning to bike around Australia, is accused of killing her and setting fire to the house, or assaulting her and trying to conceal the assault by setting the house alight. Loosemore had been staying at the home for free in exchange for doing work around the property.
