ERC Marks 600 Days of Continuous Aid Efforts for Gaza
The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has highlighted its sustained efforts in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, underscoring Egypt's ongoing support for Palestinians during the war.
Dr. Amal Imam, Executive Director of the ERC, said the organization has been working 'tirelessly and without interruption' for more than 600 days to ensure the delivery of aid to Gaza, despite numerous challenges.
'Every truck carrying relief supplies is the result of tremendous collective effort, from preparation to delivery into the Gaza Strip,' Imam explained.
Since October 2023, ERC teams have been stationed at the Rafah border crossing, managing and coordinating the flow of humanitarian convoys. According to Imam, more than 36,000 trucks loaded with over half a million tons of humanitarian aid have entered Gaza from Egypt in cooperation with local and international partners.
Following the announcement of a temporary humanitarian truce on July 27, 2025, the ERC dispatched new convoys under the initiative 'Zad al-Izza' (Sustenance of Dignity), carrying thousands of tons of food and relief supplies.
Imam noted that several Arab and international delegations have visited the Egyptian crossings to observe the aid operations, stressing that these visits have amplified calls for secure humanitarian corridors into Gaza and the reopening of all access points to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
She added that these visits coincided with Egypt's repeated appeals for a ceasefire, a reconstruction plan, and wider humanitarian access. Alongside the Red Crescent, multiple Egyptian ministries, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Solidarity, have been involved in providing medical care to wounded Palestinians transferred to Egypt.
Beyond Gaza, Imam emphasized the Red Crescent's role as Egypt's humanitarian arm in responding to regional crises in Sudan and Lebanon, as well as domestic emergencies. The organization maintains rapid-response teams across the country, operating seven hospitals, more than 35 health centers, and over 200 service facilities providing elderly care, child protection, youth programs, and community services.
The ERC also prioritizes services for people with disabilities, offering accessibility support, first-aid training in sign language, and partnerships with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities. Imam said the organization is committed to expanding these services and involving persons with disabilities as volunteers.
In her remarks, Imam urged young Egyptians to embrace volunteerism: 'Volunteering leaves a lasting impact on our lives and the lives of others. It spreads noble humanitarian values across society.'
Addressing the Palestinian people directly, she added: 'Our support for Gaza and the Palestinian cause is historic. It began in 1948 and continues unwaveringly. Know that you have brothers and sisters working day and night to ease your suffering. Our solidarity has no limits.'

The record for unaided breath-holding, without oxygen pre-breathing, remains with Serbian diver Branko Petrović, who achieved 11 minutes and 35 seconds in 2014. By contrast, most people struggle to hold their breath for more than a minute under normal conditions. Egypt's Supreme Organ Transplant Committee strengthens oversight, standards
Egypt's Supreme Committee for Organ Transplantation convened to assess the country's transplant program, reinforce regulatory oversight, and align practices with international medical standards, the Ministry of Health announced Monday. Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the meeting addressed several key areas, including the formation of specialized subcommittees, strategies to counter misinformation on social media, and the introduction of a new regulation limiting transplant approval validity to one year. Under this regulation, each transplant program must be affiliated with a single licensed medical facility. According to 2024 data, the committee issued 1,614 transplant approvals—1,194 for kidneys and 420 for livers. That year, 1,271 transplants were performed: 764 kidney and 234 liver transplants for Egyptian patients, and 188 kidney and 85 liver transplants for non-Egyptians. So far in 2025, 907 approvals have been issued (677 kidney, 230 liver). Egypt currently has 40 licensed transplant centers operating across public, university, private, police, and military hospitals. In 2024, the committee renewed licenses for 14 liver and 18 kidney centers and approved five new hospitals under licensing decision No. 124. Random inspections of transplant facilities will continue, with immediate corrective actions enforced in cases of non-compliance. The committee also reviewed mortality and morbidity data and discussed the governance of transplant procedures. One notable case involved a 62-year-old father successfully donating a kidney to his son after the procedure was cleared under Cabinet Decree No. 74 of 2023 and in accordance with Egypt's Organ Transplant Law No. 5 of 2010. Officials highlighted the urgent need for updated legislation and tighter oversight to safeguard the rights of both donors and recipients. Established in 2023 under Decree No. 4497 and chaired by Minister of Health Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Supreme Committee includes leading medical figures, such as world-renowned heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub. It is supported by dedicated scientific, ethical, and licensing subcommittees to ensure that Egypt's transplant practices meet global medical and ethical benchmarks.

The officials reviewed the latest medical care provided to the injured who were transferred to Egypt as part of its ongoing efforts to receive thousands of wounded Palestinians and their companions for treatment. They also inspected the medical services and surgical interventions offered to civilians injured in the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip.
