IND vs ENG 1st Test predicted playing XI:
In Test matches in England, form doesn't matter at all. It is all about playing the condition, the day, the session, the hour, the next ball — as it not only tests temperament but also the character and skillsets of an individual.
India's five-Test tour of England, beginning on June 20 in Leeds, marks the dawn of a new chapter. With stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma having retired from Test cricket, a fresh-faced squad under Shubman Gill's captaincy is ready to prove its mettle in one of the game's toughest conditions.
Here's how India's probable XI could line up for the first Test:
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
India's leading run-getter in the last World Test Championship cycle, Jaiswal, has already shown his appetite for big runs overseas with a superb tour of Australia.
He averages 60.61 at home and a solid 44.18 away, but adapting to English swing will be his biggest test yet. His form at the top will be crucial if India is to challenge England in their backyard.
2. KL Rahul
At 33, Rahul is the senior-most batter in the squad. His career against England has been a mix of memorable knocks like the Oval 149 in 2018 and Lord's 129 in 2021 — and frustrating inconsistency. Averaging 34.11 in English conditions, this could be Rahul's last big chance to prove he's more than flashes of brilliance.

Sai Sudharsan Exclusive Interview: 'The dream is to play Test cricket'
3.
Sai Sudharsan
India might hand a debut to Sai Sudharsan, who is in scorching form after topping IPL charts, could get the nod at No 3 for his fearless batting. Alternatively, consistent domestic stalwart
Abhimanyu Easwaran
may finally earn his long-awaited Test cap. Another wildcard is Dhruv Jurel, whose strong India A outings could tempt the management to play him as an extra batter-keeper if required.
4. Shubman Gill (c)
The skipper shoulders twin burdens one is captaincy and the other is cementing his place as a reliable top-order batter abroad.
His record in England (88 runs in 3 Tests) and broader SENA numbers remain modest. Yet, Gill's poise and talent have inspired belief, and he'll have to lead from the front, both tactically and with the bat.
5. Karun Nair
Last seen in whites in 2017, Nair forced his way back with heavy domestic runs and also scored a hundred for India A. With experience scarce in this line-up, his calm middle-order presence could be crucial.
6. Rishabh Pant (VC & WK)
One of India's biggest game-changers in this format. Pant's fearless stroke play and sharp glovework make him a match-winner, especially in SENA conditions where he averages over 37 with four centuries. He will be crucial both behind the stumps and with the bat.
7. Ravindra Jadeja
The lone 'OG' survivor of the Kohli-Rohit-Ashwin era. India's senior statesman now, Jadeja's all-round class will anchor this side, rescuing with the bat and breaking partnerships with the ball.
8. Shardul Thakur
A handy seam-bowling all-rounder, Shardul brings balance as the fourth pacer who can contribute crucial lower-order runs. His century in the intra-squad game and knack for big moments make him a solid pick over young Nitish Reddy.
9. Mohammed Siraj
With plenty of experience in SENA countries, Siraj will be a pillar of the pace attack when Bumrah sits out. Expect him to bowl long, aggressive spells and hunt key wickets.
10. Jasprit Bumrah
India's pace spearhead and arguably the best fast bowler in the world.
His match-winning abilities with the Dukes ball will be crucial to India's hopes of seizing early momentum. With a tricky back, India may deploy Bumrah selectively, possibly in the first, third, and fifth Tests to ensure he remains fresh and lethal when it matters most.
11. Prasidh Krishna
His natural bounce and ability to exploit English conditions make him an exciting option. If he settles quickly, India could have a lively third seamer to rotate alongside Siraj and Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh remains in reserve to share the load if needed.
Likely XI for the 1st Test at Leeds:
Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant (vc & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna

Bernardo Silva named Manchester City captain in what could be his farewell season

New Delhi: Pep Guardiola has appointed Bernardo Silva as Manchester City's new captain ahead of what might be the Portuguese midfielder's final season at the club. Silva, who joined City from AS Monaco in 2017, has become one of the most consistent and creative forces in the Guardiola era. With his contract running until 2026, the 29-year-old has hinted that this could be his final chapter in Manchester, with a potential return to his boyhood club Benfica on the cards. 'I know what I'm going to do, but it's not the time to talk about that,' Silva told reporters. 'I'm very focused on my season. I'm very focused on performing well for Man City. When the time is due, I will talk about it.' He added, 'I have one year on my contract so obviously I can leave next season. I've had options in the past, like last year, and this year my option is to stay at Man City.' Alongside Silva, Guardiola also appointed Rodri, Ruben Dias, and Erling Haaland as vice-captains — a move that emphasizes both experience and the future of the squad. The City boss was clear about why he broke from tradition. 'For the first time in my career, I decided who would be my captain,' Guardiola said. 'I didn't like what happened last season. I decided this season. Sometimes I want to be the boss and this time, I made the decision.' The shake-up in leadership comes after a turbulent season where Kyle Walker was named captain only to be loaned out to AC Milan midway through the campaign. Although the English full-back returned to the squad after his loan, he is not part of the squad which is in the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup. Guardiola hinted that the leadership group might evolve further, saying, 'At the end of this World Cup, maybe we will choose one or two more.' Among the new vice-captains, Guardiola placed special emphasis on Haaland's leadership potential. 'Erling Haaland is so young, but he has to start to learn what it means to be a captain,' he said. 'Because he will be here hopefully many, many years. Sooner or later, he will take that position as the first one.' Manchester City are now gearing up for their FIFA Club World Cup campaign, which kicks off on June 18.

Rohit Sharma won't be missed as much as Virat Kohli by Indian team: Geoffrey Boycott

Former England opener Geoffrey Boycott feels that Rohit Sharma won't be missed as much as Virat Kohli in Test cricket due to his exploits in the longest format of the game. Kohli and Rohit retired from Tests in May this year, just ahead of the England tour, as the Indian team will start a new era with Shubman Gill at the helm. advertisementWriting in his column for The Telegraph, Boycott said that Rohit was a superb batter but wasn't a natural athlete like Kohli and feels the former Indian captain would have struggled in England as an opener with the ball moving a lot in England. "Rohit was a superb batsman. At his best, a beautiful stroke player, but he won't be missed as much as Kohli because his Test record was good rather than exceptional. Rohit was never a natural athlete like Kohli and he knows that opening the innings in England can be pretty tough because the new ball moves around more. You really have to be up for the challenge to have any chance of success," said Boycott. Why Kohli retired from Test cricket? Boycott explains The England legend said that the retirements of Kohli and Rohit does hurt the chances of India during the tour of England. Boycott feels that Kohli will be the biggest loss as he was their man batter in all three formats of the game. advertisementThe former opener said that too much high-intensity international cricket may have taken a toll on Kohli and forced him to retire from Tests. "The retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hurts the chances of India beating England. Kohli is the biggest loss as he has been their best batsman and talisman in all three formats. With so much international cricket played by India, and so little rest, it takes its toll and the mind becomes fatigued. It does not matter how much talent or experience you have, if you are not mentally fresh and up for the challenge then it becomes draining," said Boycott. Must Watch

Rishabh Pant confirms this star cricketer will replace Virat Kohli ahead of England series, not Karun Nair or Sai Sudharsan, his name is...

Rishabh Pant at Press Conference. (PIC - X) New Delhi: The wait is about to end. The 5 test match series between India and England will start from Friday, June 20. The first match of the series will be played at Headingley ground in Leeds. Before this match, Indian test team's vice-captain Rishabh Pant came for a press conference. In the press conference, the wicketkeeper batsman made it clear who will bat at number 4 in place of Virat Kohli. Not only this, he told about his batting position and also talked about the plane crash incident in Ahmedabad. After Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket, questions started arising as to who will bat at number 4 now. In such a situation, Pant told that captain Shubman Gill will come to bat at number 4. Pant will be seen playing at number 5. It is not yet clear who will bat at number 3. 'There are still discussions going on about who will bat at number three. Shubman will bat at number four. I will continue to bat at number five as of now,' said Pant while addressing the media. Regarding the Ahmedabad incident, the wicketkeeper batsman said, 'The whole country is disappointed, all we can do is try our best and make the country happy.' India has three options to choose from at number 3. These include Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan. Easwaran went to Australia with the Indian team. Karun Nair scored a brilliant double century against England Lions earlier this month. On the other hand, Sudarshan does not have enough experience. The team management can take a decision only after assessing the conditions on the match day. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul can open in the Test series. Both opened in the second unofficial Test against England Lions. During this, Rahul scored a century. Jaiswal was the highest run-scorer among Indian batsmen in the last World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. He also showed passion in the practice match. Now a good performance will be expected from him in the Test series.
