Bumrah had been ruled out of ENG vs IND 5th Test due to injury: Report
BCCI clarifies Bumrah's status
On July 31, the BCCI announced in a brief statement that Bumrah had been "released from India's squad for the fifth Test," without citing any specific reason. This ambiguity led to confusion and criticism from fans and experts alike. However, a BCCI official later addressed the matter, stating:
At 31, Bumrah has faced multiple injury setbacks throughout his career. This latest knee concern follows his return from a significant back injury sustained earlier this year during the New Year's Test in Sydney. He is now expected to begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Strong series performance before setback
Despite missing the series decider, Bumrah had a noteworthy series, picking up 14 wickets across three Tests at an average of 26.00. He also bagged two five-wicket hauls, with his most grueling effort coming in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, where he bowled 33 overs and returned figures of 2 for 112 on a flat pitch.
Bumrah's fitness will be closely monitored in the coming weeks. With the Asia Cup in the UAE beginning on September 9, and a home Test series against West Indies in October, his availability for both remains uncertain. The BCCI is expected to provide further updates following a full assessment of his recovery.

"Our Soldiers Don't Return But We Play Cricket": Harbhajan Singh Blasts BCCI's Asia Cup Stance
Just weeks after the two India vs Pakistan matches in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 were abandoned due to Indian players' refusal to play against Pakistan, Harbhajan Singh has reiterated his stance of boycotting Indo-Pak cricket. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, etc. refused to play against Pakistan in the WCL, triggering a big debate on social media. However, shortly afterwards, the Asia Cup 2025 schedule was announced, with India and Pakistan drawn in the same group. As former cricketers, fans and pundits debate the Indo-Pak clash in the Asia Cup, Harbhajan isn't happy with the BCCI's stance. Sharing his blunt take on the topic, the former India off-spinner said that while our soldiers are trying to protect the nation from Pakistan, a cricketing contest between the two nations doesn't make sense, no matter the stage. "They need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home - their sacrifice is so immense for all of us. Compared to that, this is a very small thing, that we can't skip playing one cricket match. It's a very small matter," Harbhajan was quoted as saying by the Times of India. "Our government has the same stance, 'Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.' (blood and sweat cannot co-exist). It cannot be the case that there's fighting on the border, tensions between the two nations, and we go to play cricket. Until these big issues are resolved, cricket is a very small matter. The nation always comes first," he added. While the BCCI has its 'cricketing reasons' to go ahead with the planned schedule, Harbhajan doesn't feel anything is 'bigger than the nation'. "Whatever our identity is, it's because of this country. Whether you are a player, an actor, or anyone else, no one is bigger than the nation. The country comes first, and the duties we owe to it must be fulfilled. Cricket match na khelna bahut maamuli si cheez hai desh ke saamne (Not playing a cricket match is nothing compared to the importance of the nation)," said the former India spinner, who has more than 400 Test wickets to his name. "They need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, humare desh ka wo jawan jo sarhad par khada hua hai, unki families jo kayi baar unko nahi dekh paati hain, unki shahadat ho jaati hai, wo ghar wapas nahi laut paate hain - unki itni badi sacrifice hoti hai hum sabke liye. Toh ye to bahut chhoti si baat hai ki hum ek cricket match na chhod sakein (For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home - their sacrifice is so immense for all of us)," he said. "Humare sarhad pe bhai khade hue hain, jo hume protect kar rahe hain, humare desh ko protect kar rahe hain — unke hausle dekho, wo kitna bada dil leke waha pe khade hue hain. Aur unke parivaar par kya beetati hai jab wo ghar wapas nahi aate. Aur hum cricket khelne chale jaate hain [At the border, our brothers are standing, protecting us and our country. Look at their courage, the big hearts with which they serve. Think about what their families go through when they don't return home. And here we are, playing cricket]," he said. The Turbanator also stressed on the need to boycott whatever Pakistan says or does on national media. "As I said, cricketers shouldn't be shaking hands with the Pakistan players, but the media shouldn't be showing them and their reactions on television, either. They are sitting in their country and can say whatever they want, but we shouldn't be highlighting them," he added. The group stage match between India and Pakistan will be played in Dubai on September 14.

Roger Binny To Continue As BCCI President Till September As National Sports Bill Raises Age Limit To 75
In a twist that could reshape the leadership dynamics of Indian cricket, 1983 World Cup hero Roger Binny will continue as BCCI President at least until the board's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September 2025, following the passage of the National Sports Bill in Parliament on Tuesday. The development raises the possibility of the former India all-rounder securing a fresh term — provided the state unit members and influential powerbrokers within the BCCI rally behind him. Also Read: Team India's Asia Cup 2025 Squad: Who Will Open India's Batting? Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, KL Rahul Or Yashasvi Jaiswal A New Age Limit That Extends Binny's Tenure Binny, who turned 70 last month, would have been ineligible to hold the top administrative post under the Supreme Court-approved BCCI constitution, which earlier capped the age limit for office bearers at 70. However, the National Sports Bill has now increased that ceiling to 75 years for officials of National Sports Federations — provided their global governing body, in this case the International Cricket Council (ICC), has no specific age restrictions. This legislative change means Binny's immediate exit is off the table. His presidency, which began in October 2022 when he replaced former captain Sourav Ganguly, will now extend at least until September. Whether he remains beyond that depends on political consensus within the BCCI. "Roger will continue till the board meeting in September. Whether he will get a fresh term depends on what members and other powerful people associated with the BCCI decide," a senior board source told PTI on condition of anonymity. BCCI Under National Sports Bill — But RTI Still Out of Bounds While the BCCI will now officially come under the ambit of the National Sports Bill, it remains outside the scope of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The exemption stems from the board's financial independence, as it does not receive government grants. The board's legal team has already begun dissecting the bill's fine print to gauge its implications. According to insiders, the discussion will not be limited to leadership tenure but will also involve broader policy implications. "The national sports bill has just been passed, so, we have some time to study it and engage in proper discussion before taking any decision," the source added. 2028 Olympics & the Bigger Picture One of the most significant talking points in these deliberations will be cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This historic milestone demands meticulous planning and coordination between administrators, players, and coaching staff. "There are other points to discuss in the bill for sure, and all the stakeholders, including senior players and coaching staff, will be consulted, particularly because cricket will be played at the 2028 Olympics," the official said. With cricket's Olympic return, the role of the BCCI President becomes even more critical — encompassing not just domestic and ICC matters, but also strategic positioning on the global sporting stage. From World Cup Winner to Boardroom Leader Roger Binny's cricketing legacy remains a source of inspiration. As a key member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning squad, his swing bowling heroics remain etched in cricketing folklore. Since taking charge in October 2022, he has overseen several key decisions, from domestic cricket reforms to India's international scheduling. His presidency has coincided with a transformative phase in Indian cricket, marked by expanding revenues, increasing global influence, and growing debates over player workload and tournament formats. Decision Time in September While the National Sports Bill has opened the door for Binny to continue until 75, the final decision on a fresh term will rest with BCCI's state associations and influential stakeholders. The September AGM could thus become a pivotal moment — determining not just Binny's future, but also signaling the direction Indian cricket administration will take in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympics. If consensus emerges in his favour, Roger Binny could extend his innings as BCCI President, steering the world's richest cricket board through an era of unprecedented opportunity and scrutiny.
