Taipei Open: Unnati Hooda, Ayush Shetty reach semifinals
Youngsters Unnati Hooda and Ayush Shetty made it to the semifinals of the Taipei Open, a BWF World Tour Super 300 event, on Friday.
The 17-year-old Unnati defeated World No. 65 Hung Yi-Ting of Chinese Taipei 21-8, 19-21, 21-19 in 52 minutes to reach the last-four stage of a Super 300 event for the second time in her career. She has lost to P. V. Sindhu in the semifinals of the Syed Modi India International last year.
World No. 53 Unnati, the 2022 Odisha Masters and 2023 Abu Dhabi Masters champion, will next face top seed and World No. 8 Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan for a place in the final.

Later in the day, Ayush Shetty took on seventh-seeded Canadian Brian Yang and rallied from behind to stage a comeback win.
The Indian won the quarterfinals clash 16-21, 21-19, 21-14.
Ayush, 20, a 2023 World Junior Championships bronze medallist, overcame senior pro Kidambi Srikanth 21-16, 15-21, 21-17 in a hard-fought second-round clash.
The rising Indian had also stunned All England Championships runner-up Lee Chia Hao in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Siliguri Strikers are gearing up for the second Bengal Pro T20 League season, slated to begin from June 11. Indian pacer Akash Deep, who has played seven Test matches, has been retained by Siliguri Strikers as men's team Marquee, while Priyanka Bala has been retained in the women's squad. The Siliguri Strikers will represent the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Kalimpong. With a strong foundation built in Season 1, the franchise now aims to elevate its performance and go one step further this year. Indian Embassy successfully organizes inaugural edition of Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament
Kathmandu [Nepal], June 9 (ANI): The Embassy of India in Kathmandu successfully organised the inaugural edition of the Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament from May 31 to June 8 at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground. According to a release by the Indian Embassy, the tournament saw enthusiastic participation from six teams representing the Indian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, British Embassy, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Corporates, and the Indian Diaspora (ICAN) in Nepal. The opening ceremony was held on May 31 and was graced by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, the British Ambassador, and the Joint Secretary (South Asia Division), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal. 'After a week of spirited and friendly competition, the tournament culminated in a thrilling final match on June 8, where the Indian Embassy team had a face-off with the ICAN team. The final was followed by a trophy distribution ceremony attended by the Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chatur Bahadur Chand and Joint Secretary (South Asia Division), MoFA, Nepal, Gahendra Rajbhandari, where top performers were recognized and felicitated,' the release stated.
