Mumbai coastal road offers entry from Marine Lines, Worli, Bandra, allowing motorists to take in sea view. Ahead of Worli sea face opening, look at speed limit, toll, intersections
Over a year after the inauguration of the first phase, Mumbai's coastal road, called the Dharamveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road, has eased the daily commute for city's motorists. The Worli promenade extension of the coastal road, too, is set to open this month, after seven years of construction work.
As the coastal road inches forward, a detailed look at the project and how it boosts connectivity and reduces traffic congestion.
The eight-lane, 29.2-km road extends from Marine Lines in south Mumbai to Dahisar in the northern suburbs. It is projected to be used by 130,000 vehicles daily, and is expected to reduce the travel time from two hours to only 40 minutes.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 13,060 crore. Its first phase from Princess Street flyover to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link was opened on March 11, 2024.

Status: Planned
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in February floated a notice to change the reservation of 60 land parcels between Goregaon and Dahisar for the Mumbai coastal road project.
Plans are also underway to extend the coastal road from Dahisar to Virar, aiming to reduce travel time from 3 hours to 1 hour.

Tvm airport expansion gets boost as funds are secured

T'puram: The expansion plans of city airport received a boost after Adani Airports raised $750 million in external commercial borrowings to enhance infrastructure at its six airports. Of this, Rs 1,300 crore will be allocated for Project Anantha and Rs 700 crore for other upgrades, including measures to support the expansion of non-aeronautical businesses like retail, food and beverages, duty-free and other services. The upgrades will begin soon, while the new project will start shortly after approvals are ready. An airport official said that funds were not an issue and the company would use its funds, but now the money was raised specifically for airport upgrades. "The project can now be taken up smoothly as dedicated funds have come. The money will be used to upgrade the six airports run by the group – Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangalore, Jaipur and Guwahati". Project Anantha envisages an investment of Rs 1,300 crore over three years for the expansion of Terminal 2. The existing 45,000 sq m currently handling 3.2 million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) will be enhanced to 1,65,000 sq m to handle almost 12 MPPA with a multi-level Curb Integrated Terminal. The new terminal will also have a forecourt with an airport plaza, a hotel, and a commercial and administration block. There will be more space for car parking. A new Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, an international cargo complex and a remote check-in facility landside will create a completely new airport complex, said a statement from Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. "The clearances are the only thing that we are waiting for. The plan and the funds are ready," he added. A long-term expansion is also being considered, as the company submitted a broader masterplan worth Rs 3,000 crore to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority. This includes the redevelopment of Terminals 1 and 2 and other work designed to handle 27 million passengers by 2034. The airport already completed some of the upgrades, like runway recarpeting, improving ground lighting and airside signage. The refurbishment of Terminal 1 is ongoing as part of upgrade work and will be completed in two months.

'In-depth Viewership': INS Guldar Set To Become India's First Underwater Museum

Last Updated: The 1,120-tonne vessel measuring 83.9 metres long and 9.7 metres wide, was retired on January 12, 2024, and gifted to Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation by Indian Navy In a groundbreaking move, the decommissioned Indian Navy warship INS Guldar is set to become India's first underwater museum and artificial coral reef, nestled near Nivati Rock in Sindhudurg's Vengurla taluka, Maharashtra. This ambitious project, aimed at boosting marine conservation and tourism, was launched virtually by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, with deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with key ministers and officials, in attendance. Officials said it's a historic step, blending heritage, ecology, and adventure to create a unique destination. The INS Guldar, a 1,120-tonne vessel measuring 83.9 metres long and 9.7 metres wide, was retired on January 12, 2024. Gifted to the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) by the Indian Navy at no cost, with approvals from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and defence minister Rajnath Singh, the ship was transported from Port Blair to Karwar Naval Base at the Navy's expense, saving significant costs for the state. On February 22, 2024, MTDC took official possession, and by March 16, 2025, the ship was safely towed to Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg. The Maharashtra Maritime Board permitted the vessel to be docked at its Vijaydurg jetty for six to seven months, free of charge. The project, funded with Rs 46.91 crore by the union tourism ministry on December 27, 2024, under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, involves transforming the INS Guldar into an underwater attraction. Environmentally cleaned by April 15, 2025, the ship is now ready for scuttling near Nivati Rock, a task assigned to Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited on April 16, 2025. Once submerged, the vessel will foster coral growth, creating a vibrant marine ecosystem. This will pave the way for scuba diving and, in the future, submarine tours, offering tourists a thrilling glimpse of the underwater world. This initiative, a first for India, draws inspiration from similar projects worldwide. It promises to put Sindhudurg on the global tourism map while promoting marine biodiversity. The MTDC, led by managing director Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi and general manager Chandrashekhar Jaiswal, is working closely with local authorities, including Sindhudurg's district collector Anil Patil, to ensure its success. By blending history with eco-tourism, officials say the INS Guldar underwater museum will offer an unforgettable experience, inviting adventurers to explore a sunken warship surrounded by thriving coral reefs. NCMC card for seamless tap & travel on Metro 3 launched

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC) on Monday launched the RuPay National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Metro Line 3 commuters. The NCMC card, introduced in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the State Bank of India (SBI), allows passengers to "tap and travel" across Metro Line 3's operational stretch—from Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk. The card offers a secure, cashless travel solution and aims to eliminate queues at ticket counters. The launch event was held in the presence of state CM Devendra Fadnavis and DCMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and other top dignitaries. MMRC managing director Ashwini Bhide said, "The integration of NCMC with Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a significant milestone in building future-ready, smart infrastructure." The NCMC card will also be interoperable across Metro Lines 1, 2A, and 7, as well as with other transport systems such as the Chalo bus service. Cards issued by these operators can also be used at Line 3 stations, ensuring a unified transit experience. Existing NCMC cardholders can begin using cards on Line 3 from June 11. New users can get the cards at any of the seven Line 3 stations or designated SBI branches. The cards will be issued for free with a mandatory initial top-up of Rs 100.
