Chandigarh: PGI planning to launch navigation app for Sarathi volunteers
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research is planning to launch a navigation app for its volunteers of Sarathi project —a volunteer-based programme aimed at improving patient navigation within the hospital.
Over 350 students have been enrolled from different educational institutions to help manage the patient flow in the hospital and improving the overall experience of patients.
Volunteers are designated at important locations in PGI, including the new OPD building, Nehru block. They help in easing the patient flow during the peak hours by helping the patients with directions. Presently, the volunteers depend on hospital staff for accurate locations and map details provided to them. So now the institute is planning to launch a navigation app for them.
Deputy director, administration Pankaj Rai said, 'With the app, location will be easily accessible to volunteers, and they will further help the patients with it. In addition to navigation, we are planning to have a feedback system where patients would be able to rate their overall experience.' The app is being designed for the Sarathi volunteers only for now. Whether it will be expanded further to patients will be decided later, added Rai.
The project was launched in May 2024. Nestled within the bustling environment of PGIMER, the initiative brought together over 350 students from diverse educational backgrounds, including local schools, colleges and the National Institute of Nursing (NINE).

Prez Murmu may open Gorakhpur Ayush varsity on June 30
Lucknow: The state's first Ayush university, coming up in Gorakhpur, is all set for its inauguration on June 30. If all goes as planned, President Droupadi Murmu will conduct the ceremony. She is also expected to attend the convocation ceremony of the first undergraduate (MBBS) batch at Gorakhpur AIIMS. Sharing this on Tuesday, an official spokesperson said, "The Ayush university will be Gorakhpur's fourth university and the first one where both the foundation stone laying and inauguration will be conducted by a President (Ram Nath Kovind on Aug 28, 2021)." Officials said that the university has come up at a cost of Rs 267.5 crore and is spread across over 52 acres in the Pipri, Bhathat area of Gorakhpur district. Stating that the university was one of the dream projects of chief minister Yogi Adityanath , officials said that over 95% of the construction work is complete. "The facility centre, vice chancellor's residence and various staff accommodations are fully ready, while only some finishing touches and final coat painting remain pending in the boys' and girls' hostels. The executing agency has been instructed to complete these within the next 10 days," they said. Mentioning that the Ayush university serves as an integrated regulatory body for Ayush disciplines — Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Yoga and Siddha — officials said that all govt and private Ayush colleges in the state are now regulated by this university. "Currently, around 100 Ayush educational institutions (Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani) in the state are affiliated with this university," they said. Since the inauguration of the Ayush OPD on Feb 15, 2023, more than 100,000 patients have benefited from consultations. The OPD sees an average of 300 patients daily for Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani consultations. Soon, the opening of the Ayush hospital will provide excellent facilities for treatment through Ayurveda, Unani, Yoga and Naturopathy. It is also serving as a core to boost health tourism and medicinal farming, creating employment opportunities. "The state could connect local villagers to various forms of employment. The fully operational university will pave the way for farmers' prosperity and job opportunities for youth by creating an ecosystem for medicinal farming and herb collection," they said, adding that CM Yogi may inspect the Ayush university on his next visit.

34 Airlifted From North Sikkim After Landslide, More Rescuers Flown In
Guwahati: Two Mi-17 V5 helicopters rescued 34 people from Chhaten and Lachen villages in Sikkim's Magan district, with road commute dampened by a major landslide on June 1. The first group of stranded people landed safely at Pakyong greenfield airport. Among those rescued were injured army personnel currently undergoing medical treatment, their family members, and tourists. The first sortie by the helicopter carried 30 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to help in rescue in North Sikkim. These teams are equipped with satellite phones and other emergency supplies. According to Pravakar Rai, Director of Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), 112 tourists are still stranded in Lachen. "Plans were made to rescue them on foot or through vehicle today, but a landslide yesterday badly damaged the road from Lachen to Chhaten, which also claimed the lives of three soldiers," Mr Rai said. The SSDMA is working closely with Mangan district officials and residents in Lachen to restore the road connection to Chhaten. The authorities are looking at possible walking routes from Lachen to Chhaten, where there is a helipad. From Chhaten, the tourists can be taken to safety by helicopter. Incessant rainfall and a cloudburst in northern Sikkim on the night of May 30-31 triggered widespread devastation, severely damaging critical roads and bridges. The River Teesta surged by 35-40 feet, snapping regional connectivity.

Bhagalpur ramps up HPV vaccination drive to protect girls
Bhagalpur: District administration has directed the health department to ensure that interested girl students between the age group of 9 and 14 years are administered free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination at the sadar hospital and JLNMCH on working days from 9.00am to 4.00pm. This initiative will safeguard the girls from cervical cancer. During a review meeting held on Tuesday, DM Nawal Kishor Choudhary issued the directives. The special HPV vaccination drive, an important programme under 'Mukhyamantri Balika Cancer Pratirakshan Yojana' (MBCPY), was launched in the district recently. The DM said the vaccine is safe and it is a preventive measure for the girls from developing cervical cancer later in their lives. He urged the family members of the girls to accomplish the objective of the vaccination drive. Aadhaar card and school identity card, for the verification of the age of the schoolgirls, are mandatory for vaccination, said the DM. He also asked the health officials to submit the data of vaccinations done so far. Nearly 400 schoolgirls have already been given the HPV vaccines at the OPD of sadar hospital and JLNMCH so far, said district immunisation officer (DIO), Dr Dhananjay Kumar. He said cervical cancer accounts for 17% deaths because of malignancy among adult women. "Our teams are creating awareness among the schoolgirls while visiting the schools and interacting with them, teachers and guardians," said the DIO. District education officer (DEO), Rajkumar Sharma, said directives to the principals and in charges of the high schools and middle schools have been given to make available the data of the schoolgirls in the age group of 09-14 at their respective schools so that the free HPV vaccines are administered to them.
