Learning licences will now be issued through Sarathi
The Transport Department has taken steps to integrate its functioning with the National Informatics Centre-developed Sarathi portal, with driving learning licenses being issued from the Road Transport Authority office in Khairtabad. The rollout this service began from the Khairtabad office on Saturday. Those who have applied on the older CFST portal will also be served from here. According to Transport Department officials, the next step of integration, including licence renewal, change of residential address, issuing of duplicate documents, will go live from July 28. The rolling out of these services on Sarathi will be done in other RTA offices on the same date. 'As was decided previously by the Telangana government, the integration is being taken up in a phased manner. It will be easier for citizens to avail crucial services of the Transport Department and will reduce the number of times one will have to visit RTA offices,' a senior Transport Department Official said. According to the portal, as many as 10 learning licences applications were received at the RTA Central Zone from July 1 to July 25. Earlier this year, the Telangana government announced its intentions of following suit after several other States decided to implement and integrate transport department services with the Sarathi and Vahan portals. According to Transport Department officials, the move would bring about ease in accessing services across the country. It would also reduce the number of visits to RTA offices. Sarathi also enables driving licence holders to make use of facilities provided by DigiLocker. This platform brings about storage and production of official documents, in this case, driving licences. The burden of always carrying hard copies on one's person would be greatly reduced. Further, the move makes sure that digitally issued driving licences are legally valid and readily accessible for verification.

PGI launches Sarathi feedback app to monitor patient experience of volunteer assistance
In a move to further enhance patient support services, the PGIMER's flagship volunteer initiative, 'Project Sarathi,' has now been expanded beyond the National Service Scheme (NSS) framework to welcome all interested student volunteers, encouraging broader community participation in patient care. In another key development, the institute has launched a dedicated mobile application for collecting patient feedback. The Sarathi feedback app will now be made available to each volunteer, who will gather real-time feedback from patients and attendants after offering them assistance. This data will enable the administration to make informed decisions and continually improve the quality of services. Sharing his thoughts on the application, Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, stated: 'Project Sarathi has been a heartening example of how structured community involvement can transform hospital services. The expansion of volunteer participation and the launch of the feedback app is another step in our commitment to patient-centred care and continuous improvement'. Pankaj Rai, Deputy Director (Administration), PGIMER, said that the decision to expand beyond the NSS was taken considering the consistently positive response received through daily interactions among Sarathi volunteers, hospital staff, and patients. 'Recognising the immense value that volunteers bring in simplifying the patient journey at PGIMER, the institute is now opening the doors for students from all academic backgrounds and institutions to be part of this compassionate initiative,' Rai added. 'Project Sarathi, since its inception, has played a vital role in assisting patients and their families in navigating the large and often complex PGI system. Volunteers serve as a vital link, particularly for those from rural or underserved backgrounds, by offering clear guidance, emotional reassurance, and human connection during stressful times,' he further said. Interested student volunteers eager to contribute to this cause can send their requests and details via email to ddapgi@ This new structure aims to cultivate a stronger, more inclusive team of young change makers dedicated to patient welfare. 'The updated feedback app will enhance communication, ensuring transparency and responsiveness. The PGIMER reaffirms its commitment to participatory healthcare and responsive governance, driven by student initiative and innovative technology,' Rai concluded.

Satya crafts twin ‘Nandighoshas'
Berhampur In a spell-binding tribute to Lord Jagannath and the spirit of Rath Yatra, sand and miniature artiste Satya Narayan Maharana has created two handcrafted Nandighosha chariots made from cane and old newspapers. Famed for his miniature artifacts that earned him over 70 national and international records, Satya Narayan ventured into new artistic realms. For the first time, he has crafted a Nandighosha chariot entirely from cane, a feat of patience and devotion. This 11-inch-high and 7.5-inch-wide cane chariot is an intricate masterpiece featuring 4 horses, 2 reversed parrots, 16 wheels, Dadhinauti, Patitapabana flag, Sarathi and one beautifully crafted idol of Lord Jagannath (all made of cane), the only coloured element in the otherwise French-polished creation. It took three days of delicate work, involving softening the cane in water for hours before weaving and moulding it into divine artistry. Equally remarkable is the second chariot, made from discarded newspapers, meticulously layered and glued with 'Fevicol', followed by watercolour painting. This 3-inch-high and 2-inch-wide marvel, completed in just four hours, stands as a testament to sustainable creativity and visual appeal. At 41 years old, Satya Narayan continues to mesmerise art lovers with his skill and devotion. Having already sculpted 17 miniature Nandighosha chariots earlier using diverse materials like wood, chalk, bamboo, ice-cream sticks, clay and even shirt buttons, his latest effort celebrates both heritage and innovation. These miniature chariots are not just models—they are symbols of devotion carved through creativity, echoing the spirit of Rath Yatra in the smallest, most enchanting forms.
