Raj police warn about fake mobile app used for cyber fraud
Jaipur: The cyber crime branch of Rajasthan police issued a warning about a new
cyber fraud
involving a fake mobile app designed to steal personal and financial information. The app, disguised as "SBI REWARDZ.apk," is being shared widely through WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram.
According to SP cyber crime Shantanu Kumar, the app is a form of Android malware. Once downloaded and installed, it operates in the background without the user's knowledge and secretly collects data from the device, including SMS messages, contact lists, and app notifications. This information is then transferred to an unsecured server hosted on Google Firebase.
The primary objective of the malware is to capture sensitive financial information such as credit and debit card numbers, CVV, PINs, PAN numbers, and other personal identifiers to commit financial fraud and other cybercrimes.
Rajasthan police urged the public to stay cautious and follow cyber safety practices. People are advised to download the SBI REWARDZ app only from the official Google Play Store and to avoid installing APK files received through social media platforms. If anyone installed a suspicious APK file, they should uninstall it immediately.
Victims of such cyber frauds should contact the cyber helpline at 1930 or file a complaint online at the cyber crime reporting portal. Reports can also be made at the nearest police station or cyber police station.

NEET UG 2025: A Mumbai court extended the CBI custody of two persons held in connection with the NEET-UG exam score manipulation case till June 16 after the probe agency said it needed to unearth the "larger conspiracy". Sandeep Shah and Salim Patel, who are accused of demanding and accepting undue advantage to influence officials of the National Testing Agency (NTA), were held on June 10 and were produced in court during the day after their previous remand ended. As per CBI, Sandeep Shah, in conspiracy with other accused, was contacting parents of NEET UG 2025 candidates with the promise of manipulating their marks for money, reported PTI. Shah allegedly demanded ₹ 90 lakh per candidate and later brought it down to ₹ 87.5 lakh after assuring admission to government colleges with the help of NTA officers, the agency said. The CBI, through public prosecutor Mayank Singh, submitted that Patel has accepted ₹ 32.50 lakh from one candidate and ₹ 75 lakh through hawala from three candidates, while one of the candidates was taken to Noida by Shah. Various documents such as hall tickets of candidates appearing for NEET were found in the mobile phones of the accused, while voluminous mobile data of the arrested accused needs to be extracted and examined, the agency told court while seeking five-day custody. Defence lawyers Sujit More and Rakesh Singh opposed the CBI's plea saying the mobile phones of the accused are with the probe agency and nothing further needs to be recovered from them. They prayed for judicial custody of the accused. The court said there was substantial progress in the investigation and noted there is need to confront the accused with 1600 pages of Whatsapp conversations. The court said these Whatsapp chats have names of candidates of NEET-UG 2025 whose marks were to be increased. The special judge stressed that the matter and the consequences of the crime are serious and for proper investigation police custody is required to be granted. As there is progress in the investigation, further police custody is justified, the court said. The results of NEET UG exam for the year 2025, were declared on Saturday, June 14. Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan secured the first rank in the entrance exam.

‘Didn't get time to make reels': Noida woman files police complaint against husband over housework; blames loss of Instagram followers
A disagreement over Instagram use escalated into a full-blown police matter in Uttar Pradesh after a woman accused her husband of overburdening her with household chores, leaving her with no time to focus on creating content for social media. As reported by News18, the unusual dispute involves Nisha and her husband Vijendra. They live in Noida. Trouble began when Vijendra suggested that Nisha should spend less time on Instagram and more on domestic chores. The advice didn't go down well, sparking growing tension between the two. Initially, Nisha did cut down on her time online, but things took a turn when she noticed her follower count drop by two. Upset by the decline, she packed her bags and left for her parents' home in Pilkhuwa, Hapur district. There, she approached the Women's Police Station in Hapur and filed a complaint against Vijendra. Speaking to the police, she reportedly said, 'My followers declined as I was kept busy washing utensils and cleaning the house by my husband. I didn't get time to make Reels,' according to Deccan Herald. Nisha also told officers that she was in the habit of uploading two Reels a day. The whole incident went viral on social media platforms and netizens reacted to it. A user said, 'Peak social media craze! Two reels a day to keep the divorce away.' Another user wrote, 'Modern problems require viral solutions.' A third person commented, 'Insta virus is spreading faster than covid….. Watch out floks.'
