‘You couldn't pay us enough': Stephen A. Smith relays Rockets' response to Ime Udoka rumor
'You couldn't pay us enough': Stephen A. Smith relays Rockets' response to Ime Udoka rumor Stephen A. Smith on potential Rockets-Knicks talks: 'Ime Udoka ain't going anywhere, I got that text message. 'You don't have enough,' they said.' The New York Knicks reportedly have interest in hiring Rockets head coach Ime Udoka, but Udoka remains under contract with Houston for multiple future seasons. Coming off a season with the NBA's fourth-best record and a young and improving roster, the Rockets like the course they're on. Moreover, Udoka finished third in 2024-25 NBA Coach of the Year voting. So, there's not much incentive for Houston — even if offered lucrative compensation — to consider letting Udoka out of his contract to speak with the Knicks. Per ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, who happens to be a longtime Knicks fan, that's the message he's seemingly heard from Houston. On Tuesday's First Take, Smith said: Ime Udoka is one of the best coaches in the NBA. This brother is something better. When Jay Williams brought up about the New York Knicks reaching out to Houston, I got a text. 'You don't have enough,' they said. 'You couldn't pay us enough.' Ime Udoka ain't going anywhere, I got that text message, he's not going anywhere. And damn right, they should hold onto him for dear life. Smith's complete comments on Udoka and the Rockets can be viewed below. In recent days, the Knicks have seemingly shifted their focus to Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd, who does appear to have some level of interest in the New York vacancy. It is possible that New York's interest could be leveraged by Udoka and his representation in upcoming negotiations with the Rockets, who are likely planning to give him a contract extension by the 2026 offseason at the latest (his current deal will end after the 2026-27 season). Stay tuned! More: Reports: With sudden coaching vacancy, Knicks intrigued by Houston's Ime Udoka

Blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Idea Sends Bucks Star to Rockets
Blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Idea Sends Bucks Star to Rockets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a trade target for the Houston Rockets. Advertisement Antetokounmpo is reportedly open-minded about leaving the Bucks this offseason, but the future Hall of Famer hasn't requested a trade yet. If Antetokounmpo requests a trade from Milwaukee, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed that the Rockets trade Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, a 2027 first-round pick (via Phoenix), a 2028 first-round pick swap, a 2030 first-round pick and a 2032 first-round pick to the Bucks for The Greek Freak. The Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of this year's playoffs in five games. They have won just one postseason series since winning the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns in six games. Meanwhile, the Rockets made the playoffs this year for the first time since 2020. They took the Golden State Warriors to seven games in the first round. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a trade target for the Houston Credit: Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images The Bucks signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. Advertisement A member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team, Antetokounmpo has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks. He put up 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this season and made the All-NBA First Team. "Giannis would give the Rockets one of the best starting frontcourts in the league," Bailey wrote. "He and Alperen Sengun can play together. And the roster would still have plenty of upside with Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and Reed Sheppard." It will be fascinating to see if Antetokounmpo requests a trade from the Bucks this offseason. The Rockets are expected to make an offer for Antetokounmpo if he asks out. Stephen A. Smith ranks Rockets as No. 2 trade spot for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant
All-Star forwards Giannis Antetokounmpo (of the Milwaukee Bucks) and Kevin Durant (of the Phoenix Suns) have been rumored as trade possibilities in the 2025 offseason, and the Houston Rockets are among the potential suitors. As of Monday, it remains unclear when or if either will be dealt. But if one or both ultimately hit the market, longtime ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith likes the Rockets as a fit. In ranking the top-five destinations for both players on Monday's First Take, Smith had the Rockets at No. 2 for both stars. We understand Jalen Green just ain't ready, and he ain't got that kind of perimeter game. Consistency, that's what you need if you're Ime Udoka. Giannis in Houston, that locomotive coming at you with those pieces? (Alperen) Sengun, Fred VanVleet, and those boys? Oh yes, Houston would be no joke. The only team Smith listed ahead of the Rockets is the Knicks, who he happens to be a diehard fan of. So, there could be some wishful thinking involved there. Because New York traded away most of its future draft capital last offseason in a deal for Mikal Bridges, Houston would seem to be better positioned from an asset perspective to make a big trade in 2025. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle Interestingly enough, Smith didn't have the San Antonio Spurs — Houston's in-state, divisional rival — as a top-five destination for either Antetokounmpo or Durant. Betting markets have consistently ranked the Spurs as among the favorites for both players, so Smith's evaluation of the market could perhaps be a favorable indicator for the Rockets. All-Star players typically have at least some say in their destinations, since suitors aren't likely to pay premium trade value if they aren't convinced of the superstar's desire to stick around beyond his current contract.
