Orlando International Launches Dedicated TSA Family Lanes to Ease Travel With Kids
'Kids want to go on trips, kids want to see Disney World,' said visitor Tatiana Terry.
That is how the story usually goes for many: fun at the parks, frustration at the airport.
'We come every year, and so we're excited to go through the family lane this year, because we've never had an easy travel out of MCO before,' Terry said.
But today was different for her group. They went through TSA's new dedicated family lanes.
'It's really an option for those traveling with children, 12 and under,' said Michael Silata, Assistant Federal Security Director for MCO.
Silata says the new lanes benefit everyone.
'For the other travelers, it actually helps out the other lanes, because it helps to decongest those lanes. So, for example, like the larger items of the strollers and so on in those lanes,' he explained.
Over the busy summer months, Orlando International's average wait time has been hovering around 10 minutes. With these new lanes, the hope is that it moves even faster, family or not.
'I feel like, not saying that they do, I'm slowing them down, because I'm like ok come on gotta get your backpacks off and put them in the bucket,' said visitor Connie Fulton.
You will find the family lanes at all security checkpoints across Orlando International. Launching the lanes here was a natural choice given the number of families. Airport staff believe MCO processes more car seats and baby strollers than any other airport in the world.
'With two kids it is hard, it is very hard,' Fulton added.
Right now, the lanes are also available at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii. Under this new program, families will also be eligible for discounted TSA PreCheck.
This new program is part of TSA's push to modernize travel. You can now keep your shoes on as you go through security and the agency has said it is exploring the possibility of changing the limit for carry-on liquids.

This 40,000-acre Lake Is So Clean It's Dubbed the ‘Caribbean of Arkansas'—and It Has 200 Islands, Underwater Trees, and Freshwater Jellyfish
While the bright blue, crystal clear Caribbean Sea may garner all sorts of attention, there are more than a handful of freshwater lakes that rival the tropical region's most pristine waters in terms of color and clarity. Switzerland's Lake Geneva and Lake Lucerne, for instance, show off their glittering hues in the sunshine. There's also Lake Annecy in France, Lake Winnipeg in Canada, and the Blue Lake in New Zealand. In the U.S., a couple of bodies of water may immediately come to mind, like Lake Tahoe, Crater Lake, and Lake George, among others. There's also one lake that may have less powerful name recognition, but its waters are just as stunning: Lake Ouachita. Located in west-central Arkansas, just about 10 miles from Hot Springs National Park, the 40,000-acre lake, known for its incredibly clean, clear water, is surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest. The name 'Ouachita,' pronounced 'Wash-ah-taw,' is the French spelling of the Native word 'Washita,' which comes from the Choctaw phrase 'Owa Chito,' or 'big hunt.' Lake Ouachita's beauty is multifaceted. It's relatively undeveloped—homes are not allowed to be built directly on the shoreline—giving it a wild, rugged nature, but the lake itself is manmade. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the reservoir between the years of 1946 and 1954; it's one of three lakes built by damming the Ouachita River. Lake Hamilton and Lake Catherine are its neighbors. Although the water draws comparisons to the Caribbean, one of the most significant differences is the fact that the lake has a forest beneath the surface. So even though its averages around 50 feet deep and measures in at 200 feet at its deepest point, shallow waters and even tree tops are still prevalent; 60-foot-tall trees were left standing when the lake was filled in. Besides underwater trees, the lake has all sorts of wildlife, including freshwater sponges, freshwater jellyfish, and even freshwater shrimp. Several species of fish also call Lake Ouachita home, and anglers have the chance to catch striped bass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, crappie, and bream. Along with fishing, visitors go swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and camping. In fact, there are over 200 islands within the lake where you can find a remote, private campsite. And if you prefer something a bit more civilized? There are eight cabins within Lake Ouachita State Park that you can rent for an overnight stay.

There are some patterns you can analyze to decide whether it's better to wait for lower prices or book now based on specific scenarios, destinations and dates of travel. For domestic flights, the prices are generally at their lowest between 21 and 52 days before your trip -- with 38 days before departure being the cheapest day to book on average. For international flights, the prices are generally lowest between 50 and 101 days before your trip, but it's generally best practice to book as early as you can. According to Google, "Average prices don't meaningfully drop anytime before departure but they usually do start to rise within 50 days of the flight itself" for international travel from the US.
