Missouri governor signs Chiefs, Royals stadium bill

NBC Sports18 hours ago

Missouri has done its part to keep the Chiefs (and Royals) on the right side of the border with Kansas. Now, it all comes down to whether one or both teams will choose to stay put.
Via the Associated Press, governor Mike Kehoe signed on Saturday the bill that will provide hundreds of millions in state money toward a $1.15 billion renovation of Arrowhead Stadium and a new venue for the Royals.
Kansas has made the Chiefs and Royals an offer on a new stadium, which would have a dome — and which would be much more expensive. The deadline for accepting is, supposedly, June 30.
The ball is now in the both teams' court. For the Chiefs, it's a simple proposition: Stay in a renovated iconic venue at Arrowhead Stadium, or build a facility that could potentially host a Super Bowl.

NFL insider: Panthers have interest in free-agent S Justin Simmons

NFL insider: Panthers have interest in free-agent S Justin Simmons The Carolina Panthers still might be on the prowl for a veteran safety. This past Thursday, ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler joined Kincade & Salciunas on Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic. Fowler was asked about the possibility of the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles adding free-agent safety Justin Simmons, and offered up another potential suitor for the two-time Pro Bowler. "Simmons is interesting, because I think coming out of Atlanta, I do think he's looking for that big scheme," he stated. "That's why the Eagles are on the shortlist there. It's Philadelphia, it's Carolina—has interest in Simmons. Ejiro Evero came from the Vic Fangio school. So that's where I think you should look for Simmons." Before becoming Carolina's defensive coordinator two years ago, Evero served in the same role for the Denver Broncos in 2022. That'd be Simmons' penultimate season in Denver, where he recorded an NFL-leading six interceptions and a career-high three forced fumbles. Simmons, who turns 32 years old in November, spent the 2024 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons. He amassed 62 combined tackles and two picks over 16 starts. Despite signing Tre'von Moehrig to a three-year, $51 million deal this spring, the Panthers could use some additional safety help. Outside of Moehrig, Carolina is carrying six other players at the position—veterans Demani Richardson and Nick Scott, 2025 fourth-round pick Lathan Ransom and undrafted rookies Isaac Gifford, Jack Henderson and Trevian Thomas. Carolina has previously expressed interest in free-agent safeties Julian Blackmon and Marcus Williams, both of whom were brought in for visits in late March. German qualifier Tatjana Maria wins Queen's Club final at age 37

Associated Press LONDON (AP) — German qualifier Tatjana Maria proclaimed herself 'Queen of Queen's' after winning the Wimbledon warm-up tournament at the Queen's Club for the biggest title of her career on Sunday. The 37-year-old mother of two claimed her first WTA 500 title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over eighth-seeded Amanda Anisimova in the grass-court final in London. The 86th-ranked Maria won in front of her daughters Charlotte and Cecilia, and her husband and coach Charles-Edouard Maria. 'It means a lot to me," Maria said. 'I'm a good example that even in my age you still can win big trophies. I'm super proud of myself." On the way to her fourth WTA title, she eliminated four top 20 players, including Karolina Muchova, Elena Rybakina and Madison Keys, to become the oldest singles champion on the WTA Tour since 2020, when Serena Williams won the Auckland Classic at age 38. Maria previously won WTA titles on grass at Mallorca in 2018, and triumphed twice on clay in Bogota in 2022 and 2023. Maria, a former Wimbledon semifinalist, will jump to No. 43 in the world rankings on Monday. ___ AP tennis:
