Malaysia To Host Medtec Sea 2025, ASEAN's Premier Medical Tech Conference
The event, organised in conjunction with International Healthcare Week 2025 (IHW), is expected to bring together medical device regulators, manufacturers, innovators, and investors from across ASEAN to chart the region's future in the medical technology industry.
Informa Markets regional portfolio director for Asean, Rungphech (Rose) Chitanuwat, who plays an influential role in shaping major trade exhibitions in Southeast Asia, said participants at IHW 2025 will have the unique advantage of exploring multiple healthcare sectors and attending 125 conference sessions tailored to diverse healthcare domains -- all under one roof.
'This integrated format eliminates the need to travel between separate events, allowing attendees to maximise their time and resources while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the latest market trends, innovative technologies and cutting-edge solutions,' she said in a statement to Bernama.
Medtec Southeast Asia 2025 aims to position ASEAN as a major player in the global medical technology landscape by promoting cross-border collaboration, regulatory harmonisation and innovation.
Meanwhile, MdDev Sdn Bhd, the conference partner, said this year's event is not just about networking but about advancing ASEAN's capabilities in medical technology to meet both regional and international healthcare demands.
With the theme 'Driving Innovation & Manufacturing Excellence in the MedTech Ecosystem,' the event will focus on emerging areas such as medical device research and development, halal medical device certification, digital health solutions, and strategies for expanding market access across ASEAN and beyond.
Participants will gain insights into transformative healthcare technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) integration, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) applications in medical devices, and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT).
More than 40 sessions will be held over the three-day event, covering topics such as regulatory compliance, Industry 4.0 applications in medical device manufacturing, and strategies for market entry into ASEAN, the United States, Europe and other key regions.

Marang new bridge project set for completion by January 2027
MARANG: The new Marang Bridge project across Sungai Marang, part of Federal Route 3 (FT003) linking Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, is on track for completion by January 2027. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed the progress, stating the project has reached 54.7% completion as of June 30. The RM338 million project, managed by the Public Works Department (JKR), began construction on December 9, 2021. It includes a 2.5-kilometre stretch along FT003, featuring a 220-metre bridge over Sungai Marang and a 680-metre flyover bypassing Marang town. Existing roads will also be upgraded over a 1.5-kilometre span. Nanta addressed delays caused by land acquisition issues, now resolved, and assured no further extensions. 'The contractor and officials have confirmed no more EOTs (extensions of time),' he said during a site inspection. The new four-lane bridge will replace the outdated 1950s structure, notorious for congestion during peak seasons. Its higher clearance will allow fishing boats from Zone C to navigate upstream without obstruction, benefiting the local fisheries sector. 'Beyond easing traffic, this bridge will stimulate Marang's economy, particularly in fisheries and maritime logistics,' Nanta added. "There will be a huge impact on trade. It will be almost impossible to continue the trading as we are used to in a trans-Atlantic relationship," EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič said about the threatened tariff hike from August 1. "It prohibits the trade," stressed Šefčovič, who leads the EU negotiating team in the trade dispute with Washington. bootstrap slideshow "The trans-Atlantic supply chains would be heavily affected on both sides of (the) Atlantic," he said, adding that the US would not want such a scenario. The EU was showing "enormous patience, enormous creativity to find the solutions" with the US, he said. Federal Government allocates RM8.8 billion for 86 energy and water projects in Sabah

Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Dato' Sri Fadillah Yusof said the allocation, recorded up to June this year, falls under the development expenditure of the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMKe-12). 'This substantial allocation for Sabah reflects PETRA's strong commitment to addressing critical infrastructure issues and improving the well-being of the people in this state,' said Fadillah, who is also Deputy Prime Minister II. He added that the Federal and Sabah state governments continue to collaborate closely to enhance the state's water and electricity supply systems. Fadillah made the remarks during an engagement session with local media representatives held at a hotel here today. He also pledged to continue visiting ongoing projects across Sabah to monitor progress and find solutions to pressing concerns, such as the water supply issue at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He urged the Sabah state government to urgently address its water and electricity issues. 'Even though water and energy are state matters, we at the federal level will find ways to assist,' he said. In the same event, Fadillah lauded the media for their vital role in delivering accurate information, saying that responsible reporting has positively influenced Malaysia's investment climate and tourism industry by boosting investor and tourist confidence in the country's safety and stability. The Petra Jaya member of parliament said Sabah holds immense potential, particularly in transforming its natural beauty into tourism attractions. In 2023, Sabah recorded 2.613 million tourist arrivals, with the figure projected to rise to 3.147 million in 2024. 'With more strategic planning and through the media's role in promoting Sabah, we are confident the state can attract even more tourists. 'This isn't just about tourism. Tourists bring economic benefits — they spend, stay in hotels, and eat — generating employment and boosting the local economy. 'If marketed properly, Sabah can become a world-class destination. Tourism is central to this.' He also highlighted Malaysia's progress in global press freedom, citing Reporters Without Borders (RSF)'s recent update, which showed Malaysia had improved its standing to 88th place in the 2025 World Press Freedom Index, up from 107th in 2024. 'The government has opened up broad avenues for media freedom. This recognition is a testament to our ongoing commitment to cultivating a free, responsible and progressive media ecosystem,' he said.
