Muskogee to host State VEX Robotics meet
Robotics students could solve the vexing problem of stacking plastic rings this week.
The VEX Robotics High Stakes Middle School and High School State Championships will be Thursday and Friday at Hatbox Event Center. Match play begins 10 a.m Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday with finals set for Friday afternoon.
'They're from everywhere — Jay, Roland, Claremore, Oklahoma City area, Verdigris,' Hilldale STEAM teacher Danielle Ward said, adding that 30 high school teams and 30 middle school teams from across Oklahoma will compete.
'This year's event has been expanded to 30 spots, up from previous years of 24,' Ward said. 'Muskogee's economy will benefit from teams spending the night in our great city. Local citizens of all ages can come out and watch as students use specific driving strategies with their alliances to win matches.'
Winners in certain categories move on to represent Oklahoma at VEX Robotics WORLD Champion in early May in Dallas. Ward said high school and middle school champions, finalists and winners of Excellence and Design awards qualify to advance.
Ward said Hilldale is bringing three high school teams and three middle school teams. She said teams form alliances with other schools' teams.
Students start working on their robots as early as August she said.
The young competitors keep tweaking their robots as the year goes on.
Hilldale sophomore Jordan Davis said he's changing normal wheels to traction wheels on his robot.
'It's to make it faster and more resilient to other players,' Jordan said.
This year's competition involves getting a wheeled robot to move blue and red plastic rings to corners. The robot also must put rings on a peg and move the peg to a corner. The robot also can put rings on stationary pegs around the field, or climb a tower in the middle of the field.
Other area teams competing include three teams from Claremore High, three from Tahlequah High, as well as teams from Verdigris, Oologah-Talala and Bartlesville.
Fort Gibson and Muskogee school robotics compete through a different program, FIRST Robotics.

Lost In Starlight Will Rip Out Your Heart But It's Good
Lost In Starlight is for the hyper-independent person in your life, that's thrown any idea of letting somebody love them in the trash. It's a movie to 'ugly cry' to, to let your guard down for and to watch on your own — unless you want to share tear-soaked snacks with someone. Set in 2050s Seoul, the animated feature follows hopeful astronaut, Nan-Young (voiced by Kim Tae-ri) and Jay (Hong Kyung) a shy musician, through a new romance, lingering grief and the heartbreaking choice between your soulmate and your lifelong dream. It has the air of a 2000s romcom, paired with beautifully animated futuristic settings that bring the emotion to a whole new level. Other reviews are already comparing it to the wildly popular anime movie, Your Name (AKA Kimi No Na Wa) based on its visual beauty and how it tugs at the heart strings. It's a tearjerker from the start, where we're ~so kindly~ treated to a Christmas time tragedy — the death of Nan-young's astronaut mum on Mars. The unprocessed grief has built high walls around her heart, but also sparked her unwavering ambition to follow in her mother's footsteps. The experience, even in animated terms, is so innately human. How many times do we pour ourselves into our work, into our friendships and into our goals, at hyperspeed, thinking that along the way the grief will find its way out? Unfortunately, it always finds a way to catch up, even when you're an astronaut trying to get to Mars. Jay unexpectedly walks into her life to show her that there's space for more than her career. Their relationship is a reminder that you can't choose when someone gets to love and support you — you just have to make way for it when it arrives, even when you feel undeserving. Nan-young's impact on his life is easily summed up with this quote: "Somewhere in the someone who's forever and you on". Her belief in Jay gives him the strength to find his voice, so he too can fulfil his destiny. If you love a 'he fell first, she fell harder' trope, this film teeters on the edge of it, with a heavy handed sprinkle of 'time limited romance'. While its backdrops are set in the near (but distant) future, the themes of loss, change and love throughout the film feel more timeless. Emotional impact is shown through plays on light and shadow, as well as colour palette. It also makes a great case for the longevity of long-distance relationships in the future. If Nan-young and Jay can risk national security by FaceTiming with holograms from the Space Station to Seoul, then whoever you're waiting on a DM from can 100% text back. Though the lessons are weaved in with more of gentle touch, every loose end comes to a head in the last 30 minutes of the movie, which will likely leave you red-eyed, snotty-nosed and reaching for tissues. Apologies in advance. It's a balancing act between the darkness of grief and the lightheartedness of romance. I only wish there was more about Nan-young's experience with love and dealing with loss growing up to really cement how much she's grown. Lost In Starlight packs the emotion of a 20-episode K-Drama into 96 minutes of visual goodness with a soundtrack that makes you want to text someone you shouldn't. Watch it now on Netflix. Which movies wreck but also heal your soul?

Pension investments, Meta ads & AI, Nvidia: Trending Tickers
The California State Teachers Retirement System — the second largest public pension fund in the US — has increased its holdings in D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) and Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT, DJTWW), according to its latest filings. Meta Platforms (META) plans to automate its advertising using AI, according to a Wall Street Journal report. After reporting first quarter earnings results last week, Wall Street investors continue to digest Nvidia's (NVDA) performance and its stock's performance on the print. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Catalysts here. It's now time for some of today's trending tickers. We are watching D-Wave, DJT, Meta, and Nvidia. First up, D-Wave and DJT bought by the second largest public pension in the United States, the California State Teachers Retirement System, increasing holdings in the first quarter disclosed in an SEC filing. Jay, what's still here with us for more, Jay. 211,000 shares of D-Wave, 21,000 of Trump Media here. Interesting timing given the strong outperformance of D-Wave in their first quarter earnings print. Yeah, these quantum stocks remember uh remain a retail darling. But now you're seeing big institutional investors take take a shot on this. Uh and I was just looking this up D-Wave 500% year over year increase in revenue. The stock is up at 1000%, 1072 to be exact in the last 52 weeks. So it's pulled back. It's lost some of its recent momentum. It's actually down over the last month. Uh but uh these are names that continue to grow on a revenue stream and they may be attractive to some of the bigger players that may be missing out. Some of those Mac 7 names looking to scoop one of these names on the cheap. So, for me, when you look at some of these quantum names, yes, the RGTI, the Rigetti, the IONQs, they tend to be extremely volatile, great day trading tools, but if you look at how they're growing, it's starting to stabilize, starting to normalize and it's opening the eyes of not just retail, but some of these institutional investors like California's pension fund. And this is why it's so important to look at how these pension funds are investing. Once we do get that information through the 13F filings, a little bit of that institutional buy-in there. Next up, let's talk about Meta, aiming to fully automate advertising with AI by 2026. That's according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The goal to allow brands to fully create and target advertisements with Meta's AI tools. It's part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision for the company's future. You can see those shares up nearly a percent up about 8/10ths of a percent here. But really interesting to continue to see this evidence trickling in of how AI is going to make companies more profitable when it comes to the bottom line. Well, Mark Zuckerberg has been doing this for ages and he continues to improve the technology. You and I, we're on Instagram, we scroll. Uh the way they just target these ads, the the way they just draw you in, uh it it's it's unbelievable. And now from a cost saving point of view, AI is going to take away some of the jobs that they have at Meta. Uh is this a game changer for them? No, but we're up a percent. Uh Meta still has another 90 points to go before it's at all-time highs, but this is progress and uh when you talk Meta, that's all they continue to do is improve upon their technology. CapEx spending continues to be one of their biggest, you know, drawbacks for those looking for them to you know, save a little bit of money. But uh overall, this this fits right into the narrative of what Facebook has been doing. Uh continue to automat automate, grab eyeballs, grab attention and uh this should be a good thing for their bottom line going forward. Also interesting in terms of labor market impact. We had the CEO of Anthropic last week saying that you could see an increase in unemployment over the next 1 to 5 years of 10 to 20% due to AI and certainly that could happen with Meta after this news. But finally, let's take a look at Nvidia. The chip maker reporting an upbeat forecast in its most recent earnings report. Jay, I know that we've been talking about Nvidia throughout the morning here. How are you thinking about this stock? Can it continue to be this sort of outperformer chip giant that it has cemented itself as or is the slowing of earnings growth something that you're concerned about? Well, you're slowing to an amazing level that anyone could dream of having. Uh no, when I look at this I look at the historical price action, when you see the the the stock trade, it has a tremendous run, a lot of momentum. It's lost that momentum. I think earnings day was perfect. It opened at 143 right off the highs and then slowly trended lower. It's digesting. It's still above all key moving averages, but it's going to take time another catalyst to get it going. Today's news is just positive news, but we're waiting on like the last segment, China tensions to ease. Tariff certainty. Uh once Jensen figures that out, then then watch out because the spend is still there. The technology is still second to nobody. Uh and to me, it's just getting ready to take that next leg higher. We got to see what that catalyst is. It's probably another quarter. So the stock has been going sideways for a year. That's not a bad thing and we're making higher lows now. So I think it's getting ready to explode say summertime, end of summer. Uh but right now, uh sideways action is fine. This is uh this is still one of our leaders just not ready to lead yet. Yeah, and we were talking earlier about how the company is expected to lose billions in revenue due to those H20 chip licensing requirements. But you talked about how they've taken it on the chin and then moving forward here, we do have some reporting that they're working on a new AI chip that would meet any restrictions coming forward from the administration. Does does Nvidia have to continue to do that to survive? Like do they have to survive? They don't have to, but if you want to see the exponential growth as an investor, as a shareholder, that's what you want to see. So when that next roll out of a chip and it it doesn't have those restrictions, you know, where it's basically tethered to the ground or tethered in this neutral range, then the stock is going to explode. So we're one Jensen event away, one new chip roll out away from a breakout or we we wait a little while while they work on things and then we get certainty from Washington. Uh trust me, when this market does make new highs, I'm pretty sure Nvidia is going to be trading above 150 leading the way. Sign in to access your portfolio

What so many companies get wrong about their cybersecurity
For many companies, cybersecurity is a top priority. But not all of them are keeping up with security like they should. In the video above, Zscaler CEO Jay Chaudhry (ZS) shares the "number one reason" he thinks companies are breached. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Asking for a Trend here. I'm curious as always to get your general take as well on just the general threat landscape, Jay. What you're seeing, how it's evolving, how your company is positioned to capitalize. So the threat landscape is fairly tough. It's getting worse and worse. But you know, you would expect that because when business is happening online, everything is going online, your critical infrastructure. The bad guys do want to go there. So it's not unexpected. But I think what we need to do as providers, as customers to step up and shake off some of the inertia. The number one reason for why companies are getting breached is because inertia is holding them back. They think that the network and security, the firewalls and VPNs I built years ago is good enough. It's not good enough. Hackers have no inertia. So enterprises who are moving forward quickly, making changes, adapting new technologies are in a better place. We can beat bad guys, but we must be proactive about it.
