But Jens Berthel Askou denies Lennon Miller is in Italy
A first goal in seven months for Aussie striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos inspired a Motherwell win that puts them into the last 16.

The 26-year-old's strike in 52 minutes put the Steelmen on their way to victory, with Tawanda Maswanhise's double making sure of a win that takes Jens Berthel Askou's outfit into the knockouts as Group G victors on 11 points.

Stamatelopoulos' strike was his first since a 2-2 draw against Rangers on December 29, having endured months of an injury nightmare. For Maswanhise, it was his fourth in the competition.

Askou – who denied midfielder Lennon Miller is in Italy for talks – said: 'When there's something concrete to comment on, we will.
'The goal was to get to the next round.
'We're pleased to finish with the strongest performance in the group stage. Tawanda has the potential to be a very important player for us.
'Apostolos' first goal in seven months... I don't care and I don't think he cares how it came.'
Well had a penalty claim waved away in six minutes when Stamatelopoulos went down under a Kris Moore challenge and they dominated throughout.

As if often the case, Morton nearly took the lead in the 31st minute when Tomi Adeloye fired just over.
Six minutes later, Adeloye sent himself through with a neat flick and went down under a challenge from Paul McGinn but ref Ryan Lee was not interested. Morton boss Dougie Imrie was booked for protesting.
Well went ahead seven minutes after the break, when Emmanuel Longelo's cross from the left was met on the volley by Johnny Koutroumbis and parried by James Storer, but Stamatelopoulos bundled the rebound over.
Come 83 minutes, Liam Gordon sent Maswanhise through to curl past Storer. And he bagged his second with a curling finish into the top right corner from 25 yards out, three minutes into stoppage time.

Watch out Rangers, says Motherwell star Tawanda Maswanhise as Steelmen eye upset in opener

The Steelmen are gearing up for a tough test in their Premiership opener - but they have stunned Gers in recent games Motherwell hero Tawanda Maswanhise has issued a 'watch out Rangers' rally cry as the winger hopes to keep his form run going in Saturday's Premiership opener. ‌ Russell Martin brings his Rangers side to Fir Park for the 5.30pm showdown, and Maswanhise is looking to exploit as many weaknesses as he can. ‌ Zimbabwean Maswanhise was looking to build on last season's tally of six goals, and has four already from the Premier Sports Cup group stages. ‌ Doubles in an opening game draw at Clyde and last Tuesday's 3-0 home victory over Morton to win Group G have the winger absolutely flying, and he hopes to continue that against the Ibrox giants - a side the Steelmen have beaten twice and drawn with once in their last five meetings. Maswanhise, 22, said: 'It's watch out Rangers! We've got to focus on that, find out the weaknesses in their team, and I'll be looking forward to that. 'That's going to be a massive game for us, and we're all preparing for that right now. 'I love scoring goals and it was a good team performance against Morton, so I'm ready for the next one.' Maswanhise took a Liam Gordon through-ball in his stride before curling a low shot past Morton keeper James Storer to put Motherwell 2-0 up, adding to Apostolos Stamatelopoulos' opener. ‌ Three minutes into stoppage time, Maswanhise then took a pass on the left wing, checked inside and curled an unstoppable shot into the top right corner from 25 yards out. Maswanhise purred: 'I love scoring goals, and it was a good team performance, so I'm ready for the next one. 'I didn't know the second one was going in, I hit it and hoped, so I was happy with the goal. ‌ 'I'm delighted for the boys and the club that we topped the group, with 11 points in total, so I'm really happy with the win and the three points, and I'm looking forward to the first game of the season.' Maswanhise, who is contracted until the end of this season, is well on his way to topping last season's total and will reassess his target. For now, he's enjoying life under new boss Jens Berthel Askou. He said: 'It's all about setting small targets each week, and I'm getting closer already, so the main focus is on wins and goals. 'I'm learning the new manager's system, so I've got to keep going, and hopefully I can create more and score more.'

Liverpool face dilemma over star Jurgen Klopp predicted to be 'brilliant'

Liverpool have already banked some huge fees this summer amid what has been a lucrative transfer window with another exit potentially on the cards over the coming weeks Liverpool are open to selling academy starlet Tyler Morton despite Jurgen Klopp backing him for big things at Anfield. The 22-year-old is a graduate of the club's youth set-up and has gone on to make 14 first-team appearances for the Reds, five of which came under Arne Slot last season. ‌ But it now appears that Morton could depart Merseyside for pastures new, with fresh interest in his services. According to reports, French side Lyon are eyeing a move for Morton. ‌ As per The Athletic, both the midfielder and Liverpool would be open to a permanent deal. Morton, who has previously spent time on loan with Championship sides Hull and Blackburn, believes that a switch to Ligue 1 would represent a fresh start in his career. ‌ Morton previously had an opportunity to join German side Bayer Leverkusen last year, only for Liverpool to reject their advances. Ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has regularly expressed his admiration of the young midfielder. 'You can see Tyler Morton,' Klopp said during his time at Anfield. 'We have to send him to the gym as if he gets a body, he's a brilliant footballer. There are some things to come physique wise, but the football brain is outstanding.' He then doubled down on that stance following another impressive outing from Morton. He said: 'I don't want to make his life any more complicated than it is already, playing at such a young age for a club like Liverpool in a game like this with a performance like this. "I think we should all calm down but it was really good tonight and a big pleasure to watch the boy playing. The football brain he showed tonight was absolutely exceptional. "If you are technically on that level and he obviously is and you have such good orientation then you have time for good stuff. On top of that he defended incredibly well with the other boys.' ‌ Should a deal for Morton go through, he would become the latest big-money exit from Anfield this summer. Luis Diaz completed a switch to Bayern Munich earlier this month, while Jarrel Quansah, Caoimhín Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all earned the reigning Premier League champions considerable fees. Liverpool have reinvested with a number of big-money signings including Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Arne Slot's men are not finished there either, with the Reds interested in a deal for Newcastle star Alexander Isak, albeit he is expected to cost around £150m.

Hibs boss David Gray has provided supporters with an update on the club's pursuit of fan favourite Nectar Triantis. And the gaffer has broached the subject of 'replacing' the Aussie, should he not return to Easter Road for a third stint. Triantis was a stand-out in his second loan spell with Hibs last season, picking up Young Player of the Year honours and finding himself alongside Celtic superstar Daizen Maeda on the Scottish Football Writers' Association Player of the Year short list. He returned to parent club Sunderland at the end of the campaign knowing that Hibs were very keen to secure his services – either via another loan deal or in a permanent transfer for a player with two years left on his contract. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Fee of £1 million not an issue for Hibs Hibs are willing to meet Premier League-bound Sunderland's asking price of over £1 million to land the 22-year-old, who earned his first Socceroos call-up on the back of his performances in the Scottish Premiership. But they cannot match rival salary packages on offer for an in-demand player with ambitions to be part of Australia's World Cup squad at next summer's tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA. Gray, speaking to Sky Sports on the eve of his team's crucial Europa League qualifier against Midtjylland at Easter Road, admitted that attempts to do a deal had not been straightforward, saying: "He's gone back to his parent club after a very successful loan spell with us. We know how well he's done for us and he's one that takes a bit of replacing. "We are looking in that area, because it is something that he was a big part of what we'd done. You always need to be proactive, because you never know what can happen. "You need to have three or four targets, just in case, and that's the challenge to the recruitment department and ourselves, to make sure by the end of the window we've got what we need. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Never straightforward - and not waiting for one player "It's never just as straightforward as, we like to go and sign a player, let's go and sign a player. There's always, what does the player want, what's his other options, what's the parent club doing with him. "We've had him for two loan spells now. I think the benefit of it is he's definitely improved both times he's been here, but that's entirely up to what Nectar sees as his next steps, what Sunderland see for him. "At the same time, we're not just sitting waiting on one player. We are obviously looking to make sure that, as a football club, we're always trying to improve. "We're always looking at potential targets for certain positions. If we think we can improve us, we'll try and do it, if it can be done, and the big thing I always talk about is the right type of people. It's not just about numbers; it's about making sure you get the right ones." Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Gray has already been backed in the summer transfer market, reinvesting the £1 million fee received for Dylan Vente as the club broke their own transfer record to land Thibault Klidje. The manager insists he won't be short of support, should he look to make more signings. "I think the level of ambition since the Gordon family came in has been there from day one,' he said, thanking the club owners. 'I think they're really passionate, always wanting to move the club forward. "Not just as you've just touched on there with one signing, but the good work that was done at the back end of last season. Retaining a lot of the squad that we had last season, a lot of business done, which was hugely important. "I made a big point on the quality within the group, the type of people within the group, and then the togetherness that's growing all the time, so that was very important. We're delighted with the business we've done. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "Sometimes you can always look to the new players that come in, rather than actually what's in the building and developing that, so I'm really pleased with that. There'll still be work to be done as the window's open, you always want to keep looking to see what you can do. "The challenge, as I always say, is to try and finish the window stronger than when you started it. I'm really happy with where we are right now." Hibs and Midtjylland meet in the second leg of their second qualifying round tie tomorrow, with the contest tied at 1-1 after a pulsating first leg in Denmark. Victory would see Gray's men face Norwegian side Fredrikstad next week, while defeat would pitch them into a Conference League qualifier – most likely against Partizan Belgrade, who are 2-0 up on Ukrainian side Oleksandriya heading into the second leg of their tie tomorrow night.
