Miyu Yamashita takes slim lead into final round at Women's Open
After holding a three-shot lead through the midway point of the tournament, Yamashita was at 9-under par through three rounds as her advantage was narrowed to a single shot heading into Sunday's final round.
'I think one of the main things is not missing in the wrong spots,' said Yamashita, whose best finish in a major was a tie for second at the 2024 Women's PGA Championship. 'Because I'm able to do that, that means I don't put myself in awkward positions and helps me not make those bogeys which can cost you so much at these championships.'
A Lim Kim moved into second place at 8 under after a 5-under par 67 in the third round after a nine-hole stretch when she compiled four birdies. Andrea Lee of the United States also shot a 5-under 67 on Saturday and was alone in third place at 7 under.
'So honestly I'm not focused on the leader,' Kim said. 'I focus on my process and my shot and then my position. That's all.'
A group of four tied for fourth place at 6 under included Japan's Minami Katsu and Rio Takeda, England's Charley Hull and American Megan Khang.
Yamashita breezed to a 7-under par 65 in the second round to move into the lead but struggled to find that form Saturday. She was 1 over on the front nine with a bogey and eight pars. She was 1 over again on an eventful back nine that included three bogeys and two birdies.
Yamashita was even par for the round through 13 holes until she recorded a pair of bogey 5s at No. 14 and 16.
'I'll be just looking at what went wrong and what went right and analyzing the day and make the improvements that hopefully will lead to a better round (Sunday),' Yamashita said.
Yamashita and Takeda, who was alone in second place through two rounds, were the only members of the top 10 on the leaderboard to shoot over par Saturday. Takeda, who was Yamashita's playing partner, also was 2 over.
Katsu had the low round of the day at 7-under 65 to put herself into contention by moving up 31 spots on the leaderboard. She got off to a slow start with a pair of bogeys on the first two holes before going on a red-hot run.
Starting with a birdie 3 at No. 4, Katsu was 9 under over her final 15 holes in a stretch that included an eagle 3 at No. 6.
'Made two bogeys on the first three holes, but after that I was really focused on my swing,' Katsu said. 'I just had a really good image of my swing, and I kept that going, and here I am.'
World No. 1 Nelly Korda stumbled to a 2-under 74 on Saturday to leave her at even par for the tournament in a tie for 36th place.
England's Lottie Woad, who turned pro last week then won the Women's Scottish Open, shot a 1-under 71 and is at 3 under for the weekend to sit in a seven- way tie for 11th place.
Defending champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand shot a 2-under 70 and was tied for 36th at even par.

But he added that the new training center meant players had 'everything that you need to be on your best shape mentally and physically.' State-of-the-art performance and rehabilitation equipment has been installed, including altitude training facilities. Sleeping pods, oxygen chambers and cryotherapy treatment facilities are to be added imminently. The project was funded by minority owner Jim Ratcliffe as part of the British billionaire's $1.3 billion investment in the storied club last year. 'I hope it helps take Manchester United where Manchester United need to go,' he said. Ratcliffe, who has also outlined plans to rebuild the club's iconic Old Trafford stadium, said he had quickly made a decision to 'invest significantly in the creation of a world class performance environment for staff and players to reflect our ambition and vision for Manchester United.' 'The club have to compete at the highest level. That's appropriate to the brand and the size and the history of the club,' he said. 'So whilst a world class training facility won't take us to that place alone, it is one of the key ingredients in the modern world.' As well as performance equipment, the redesign of the campus, led by architect Foster + Partners, includes facilities like a barber shop, a Formula 1 simulator and pool table, with a padel court due to be installed at the request of players.

Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister in contention for Crystal Palace match after recovering from injury
LIVERPOOL: Alexis Mac Allister will be in Liverpool's squad for Sunday's Community Shield match against Crystal Palace. The Argentina international missed some of Liverpool's preseason preparations when recovering from injury. But he played in the last two friendlies against Yokohama F. Marinos and Atletico Madrid and will be in contention to play some part of the game against Palace at Wembley, coach Arne Slot said. 'He was out for two months I think, or longer because we didn't play him in the last four games of the season. He trained with us since a week now, played 30 minutes, 45 minutes,' Slot said Friday. 'So that's not a situation where you would start a player... play him for 90 minutes. Starting is possible but definitely not for 90 minutes.' The 26-year-old Mac Allister's last competitive game was against Arsenal on May 11. He missed the Premier League champion's last two games of the season. Last month the midfielder said his absence was due to a series of issues, rather than one specific injury. 'It's hard to explain because it's not just one spot that you say, 'OK, we have to focus on this,'' Mac Allister said. Akshay Bhatia fires 62 to set early pace at FedEx St. Jude
MEMPHIS: Akshay Bhatia fired an 8-under-par 62 in Thursday's first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship to grab a one-stroke lead over England's Tommy Fleetwood in the opening event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs. Fleetwood made a late charge up the leaderboard by birdieing the final four holes for his 7-under 63 at TPC Southwind. Two strokes behind Bhatia at 6-under 64 are Bud Cauley and Englishmen Harry Hall and Justin Rose. Si Woo Kim of Korea shot 65. Collin Morikawa, Rickie Fowler, Maverick McNealy, Russell Henley and Ben Griffin are four back after 4-under 66s. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler had a chance to join them, but his short par putt on 18 slid past the hole and he settled for a 67. Bhatia tossed aside a season filled mostly with disappointment to move atop the leaderboard. His strong start included four birdies on the front nine and an eagle-3 on the par-5 16th hole. The only blemish on Bhatia's scorecard was a bogey on the par-4 12th. He closed in impressive fashion, following the eagle on No. 16 with birdie putts on Nos. 17 and 18. 'I felt like I wasn't putting great throughout the day, but then those last couple putts managed to drop,' Bhatia said. 'All in all, I felt like (my) iron play was nice. I just need to kind of clean up a couple things, like a couple wedge shots, and get a little more comfortable with the putter, but all in all, I felt like I was driving it nice.' The 62 represented Bhatia's low round on tour this season, one stroke better than his third-round total at the 3M Open last month and his opening round at the Truist Championship in May. After opening the 2025 season with three top-10 finishes during the first three months, Bhatia has struggled. He has not recorded a top-10 since his third-place finish at The Players Championship in March. He also has missed four cuts and withdrawn after one round in another event. 'I've been looking at a lot of numbers that I don't need to look at, obviously FedEx Cup, world ranking, and I'm still doing it, and I still catch myself doing it,' Bhatia said. 'But I'm just really trying to have a little more peace on the golf course. 'I think this game can consume your life, your happiness, and so I'm just trying to figure out ways to change that because I feel like I don't really want to live my life based off of an unstable game. That's going to drive me nuts. This whole year it has, so I'm just trying to be just a little more at ease with whatever I shoot.' Fleetwood has had five top-10 finishes this season, including a near-victory at the Travelers Championship in June when he was runner-up to Keegan Bradley. On Thursday, he was even after seven holes, but shot 7-under across his final 11 holes. 'I felt like I hadn't made the most of any of the chances that I had given myself (early in the round), and I think just being patient through that stretch and then I eventually got something going,' said Fleetwood, in his 15th year on Tour. Cauley, who has never won a PGA Tour event, closed strong to make a run at Bhatia. Cauley birdied Nos. 10, 12, 15, 16 and 17, all of the putts inside 15 feet. He had moved to 7 under, but his approach on 18 found water and a bogey dropped him back to 6 under. Hall, who played in the same group with Bhatia, had a bogey-free round. Rose, the runner-up to McIlroy at the Masters, had seven birdies and only one bogey. The top 70 in the FedEx Cup points standings qualified for the St. Jude, but second-ranked Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, the reigning Masters champion, opted to skip the playoff opener. Those who finish Sunday ranked in the top 50 of the FedEx Cup points standings qualify for the second round of the playoffs to be held next week in Owings Mills, Md. The top 50 also will be eligible for each of eight PGA Tour signature events in 2026.
