Amy Adams to Star Opposite Javier Bardem in Apple TV+'s Cape Fear
Look who's joining Javier Bardem on a trip to Cape Fear.
Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) will star in and executive-produce Apple TV+'s upcoming series adaptation of the big screen thriller, TVLine has learned.

In the series, married attorneys Anna (played by Adams) and Tom Bowden are in peril when Max Cady (Bardem, in the role Robert De Niro played in the 1991 film), a killer from their past, is released from prison. Cape Fear will consist of 10 episodes and, per the official logline, be a 'tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America's obsession with true crime in the 21st century.
Nick Antosca (The Act) will serve as writer and showrunner on the series, with Martin Scorsese — who directed the 1991 film version — on board as an executive producer, along with Steven Spielberg and Bardem.

Cape Fear originated as a 1962 film starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, based on the novel The Executioners, and was remade in 1991 by Scorsese, with Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, De Niro and Juliette Lewis in the cast. De Niro and Lewis both earned Oscar nominations for their roles.
In addition to playing Camille in HBO's Sharp Objects, Adams' TV career includes The Office, Dr. Vegas and King of the Hill. Her film work includes Enchanted, Julie & Julia, Man of Steel, Her, Vice, Hillbilly Elegy and Nightbitch.

The Long-Awaited ‘Mass Effect' Show Has a Showrunner Now
Prime Video's upcoming Mass Effect show is progressing slowly, but surely. On Friday, Deadline revealed the live-action series gained Doug Jung as its showrunner. Jung, who most may remember as the co-writer for 2016's Star Trek Beyond, recently ended a showrunner/executive producer stint for Apple TV+'s Chief of War. He'll be working alongside writer Dan Casey, and both will EP for the series alongside franchise producer Mike Gamble. As Deadline notes, this is a 'major step forward' in the show's development, which was first teased all the way back in 2021, then had its existence reaffirmed back in 2024. To date, Prime Video's kept mum on what exactly Casey's pitch was for the Mass Effect show. Among fans, the general thinking is that it'll just adapt the initial trilogy of Commander Shepard gathering allies to fight the Reapers. (This also seemed to be the plan when a movie seemed likely back in 2007 after the first game came out.) But shows like Castlevania and Prime Video's own Fallout have taken a different approach that tells an original story inside the worlds of those series. (Fallout in particular carries itself like a Fallout 5 we're getting to watch but not play.) Others, like Tomb Raider and Dragon Age, continued (or hoped to) the stories of the games they're based on. There's certainly different routes for the Mass Effect series to take, and we'll be interested to learn Jung and Casey's approach in due time.

Sydney Sweeney Reacts to Her Used Bathwater Going Viral

The Anyone But You star recently made waves—literally—when she announced a partnership with Dr. Squatch for a limited-edition line of bar soaps that include an unusual, key ingredient: her actual bathwater. And in the time since, the collab has made quite the splash online. 'I think it's more fun to see everyone else talk about it,' Sydney admitted to E! News at the premiere of her new film Echo Valley on June 4, adding on how the product came to be, 'I pitched it.' (For more with Sydney, tune into E! News tonight, June 5 at 11 p.m.) After all, as Sydney pointed out in her announcement post, when she first partnered with Dr. Squatch back in December—in a commercial she filmed from a bathtub—fans couldn't get enough. 'You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad…' she captioned her May 30 post. 'So we kept it.' The end result? A teal-colored bar of soap called Sydney's Bathwater Bliss (available June 6). More from E! One such endeavor has been her new Apple TV+ film Echo Valley, where the Euphoria star plays daughter to as the two battle to keep a dark secret hidden. It was a project she said gave her 'so many reasons' to say yes. 'The character, Claire, is such a multi-layered, troubled young woman,' she explained. 'And being able to explore a character that has so many dimensional relationships with their mother, it's fun.' And working opposite such a powerhouse like Julianne, which Sydney described as 'such a dream,' was an added perk. 'She is beyond kind,' the Euphoria actress gushed. 'Like one of the kindest human beings I've ever met.' Echo Valley premieres on Apple TV+ June 13. So with another Pride Month officially in full swing, we thought we'd take stock of some LGBTQ+ TV couples currently demanding our attention — as well as our full support. The very definition of #CoupleGoals (are people still saying that?), Hen and Karen have been an inspiration, both to the other couples on the show and to the viewers at home, from the moment we met them in Season 1. They've had to fight tooth and nail to keep their growing family intact, with every obstacle making them stronger along the way. Plus, there's simply no denying Aisha Hinds and Tracie Thoms' natural chemistry. — Andy Swift An esteemed Congressman and an in-demand journalist? These two have the potential to become D.C.'s top gay power couple — that is, if they can get their house in order first. Martin may own an array of designer suits, but with all those skeletons in his closet, he barely has anywhere to put them. If Smitty uncovers his husband's truth before Martin reveals it himself, things could get very ugly. — A.S. Criminal Minds over 18 seasons (and counting) has, frankly, not featured much LGBTQ+ romance, so Evolution steering Tara into bisexual territory was monumental. Save for an early-season love scene (a rarity for the crime drama!), this pairing has had little screen time in Season 18, but it's good to know they're going strong — to the point that it may be time to meet the parents! — Matt Mitovich Not unlike the Grinch, Leo Stark's heart has grown several sizes during his time in Salem, and the former grifter is always at his best when he's in a stable relationship. After a string of failed romances, Leo seems to have finally gotten it right with Javi, and we're enjoying this latest version of him. Hey, what could possibly go wrong to screw up this perfect pairing? It's not like we're talking about some kind of soap op… oh, right. — A.S. This flame was well on its way to being rekindled when all hell broke loose in the Season 3 finale — just as Eve got blindsided by Francine's talk of having kids. In the heat of the moment, Eve didn't pivot well (at all), but in the wake of Francine's heroics during the Three Rock blaze, we hope they in fact are back on track. — M.M. Yes, the cute couple played by Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani hit a bit of turbulence in the freshman season of Netflix's vacation comedy. (Danny ignoring his health issues and Claude's hot Italian temper led to a fight where Danny's clothes ended up on the front lawn.) But once you get past all the drama, there's a genuine sweetness to these two, and we loved watching them cuddle together and make up. — Dave Nemetz We #Momelia fans are a patient lot. It's been more than a season since Amelia first asked out the new colleague with whom she sparks so appealingly, and they still haven't so much as kissed. Nevertheless, their mutual respect for and ever-increasing understanding of one another keeps us telling ourselves, 'Maybe the next episode will be the one.' — Charlie Mason In Season 3 of Netflix's butterflies-inducing LGBTQ+ dramedy, the high-school sweethearts' romance was tested like never before — by their cohabitation, by the academic pressure on the former, by the latter's nonbinary journey. Yet as we shippers knew they would, the couple managed to rise to the challenges before them and emerge closer than ever on the other side. — C.M. You want to talk about bringing down the house? When these immortal lovers reunited in a hotel at the end of Season 2, in the midst of a devastating New Orleans storm, the structure quite literally crumbled around them. Louis and Lestat have a love for the ages, and now that their mutual misunderstandings have been cleared up, we're hoping for a fresh start moving forward. — A.S. The two post-apocalyptic teens managed to start a relationship in a) a mushroom apocalypse, b) while in deep grief over someone they both adored, and c) despite the fact that one of them was pregnant by someone else. Talk about finding love in a hopeless place! — Kim Roots There's no telling what the future holds for these two badass warriors — literally, the Paramount+ drama has yet to be renewed for a third season — but after all they went through and barely survived at the close of Season 2, it is one of our most fervent wishes that they found the time for lots of not talking. — M.M. Charley is one of those puppy dog characters to whom you only ever want to see good things happen, so imagine our pleasant surprise when he struck up a romance with pouty potter Yuri in the ghost drama's second season. The chemistry, the kisses, the Ghost reenactment — it was all just so, so good. If they couldn't be their authentic selves when they were alive, at least they can be happy together in the afterlife, right? — A.S. After four long, dry seasons (unless you count tears!), we were beginning to think that Isaac would never find someone to share his life with. But then, just when we least expected it, along came Michael to sweep his former frenemy off his feet. Watching them awkwardly figure out their feelings for one another was an unexpected delight, and that first kiss at the Christmas festival? Come on, now! We're all in with these two. — A.S.
