'Weirdo' fan who harassed Olympic star Gabby Thomas handed punishment over abusive behavior
The 'weirdo' fan who harassed Gabby Thomas at a meet and took credit for his own parlay winning has reportedly been banned by FanDuel.
While at the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia over the weekend, Olympic gold medalist Thomas was subjected to verbal abuse from one heckler, who called her a 'choke artist' and even referenced her having a white husband.
The man later bragged about his behavior, as he posted video of the incident and screengrabs of two parlays - one worth $1,000 - in which he bet against Thomas.
Thomas later criticized the man for his actions, saying on X that he hurled 'personal insults' at her and followed her around the track.
Now, FanDuel has confirmed to ESPN that the bettor is banned from the platform.
'FanDuel condemns in the strongest terms abusive behavior directed towards athletes,' a FanDuel spokesperson told the website.
She won three gold medals in Paris last summer as she represented Team USA
'Threatening or harassing athletes is unacceptable and has no place in sports. This customer is no longer able to wager with FanDuel.'
As seen in the man's screenshots, he bet on Melissa Jefferson-Wooden to win the 100m race in Philly in two separate bets.
Thomas ultimately finished fourth in the 100m.
Following Thomas' post on X criticizing the heckler, legendary sprinter and Grand Slam Track Commissioner Michael Johnson responded to her troubling claims and said the organization was investigating the incident.
'So sorry you had to experience this Gabby!,' he said. 'We are working to identify the individual involved and will take appropriate action as necessary. Despicable behavior like this will not be tolerated.'
Thomas added in a subsequent post that she 'wasn't even going to tweet about it but [did] since he's bragging.'
In another online reply, Thomas actually said that 'the heckling is tolerable, it's following me around the stadium that's wild.'
She also added that, aside from the heckler, 'overall the fans and spectators at this meet were the absolute best!'
Unfortunately, Thomas has experienced other forms of harassment this year as well.
In January, she said that a group of men were following her around at airports.
Thomas claimed in a TikTok that the men have asked her to sign pictures, and act 'aggressive and hostile' when she rebuffs them.

Donald Trump has ordered the National Guard onto the streets of Los Angeles after a second day of violent protests against his immigration policies. Protesters on Saturday confronted federal immigration officers who had been carrying out raids on local businesses in Paramount, on the outskirts of LA. Border Patrol officers in riot gear and masks deployed tear gas and flash-bang grenades to disperse demonstrators outside an industrial park where federal vehicles were targeted. 'We see you for what you are,' they shouted, and 'You are not welcome here'. One handheld sign read, 'No Human Being is Illegal.' Tom Homan, the White House's border czar, told Fox News on Saturday that the National Guard will be sent to the city as the protests continued to escalate. 'We are going to bring the National Guard in tonight,' Mr Homan said. 'American people, this is about enforcing the law – and again, we're not going to apologise for doing it.' It follows a protest outside a detention centre in down-town LA on Friday night during which dozens of people were arrested as they demonstrated against a series of ICE raids on workplaces earlier in the day. LA's mayor, Karen Bass, a Democrat, provoked fury from Republicans after she claimed that activity by ICE was meant to 'sow terror' in the nation's second-largest city. ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons attacked Ms Bass for the city's response to the protests. 'Mayor Bass took the side of chaos and lawlessness over law enforcement,' Mr Lyons said. 'Make no mistake, ICE will continue to enforce our nation's immigration laws and arrest criminal illegal aliens.' ICE had taken 40 people into custody earlier on Friday after searching multiple locations including a clothing warehouse in the city's fashion district. A tense scene unfolded as a crowd tried to block agents from driving away. Advocates for immigrants' rights said people had also been taken into detention after being stopped by ICE officers outside Home Depot stores and a doughnut shop. The action came after a judge found probable cause that an employer was using fictitious documents for some of its workers, according to representatives for Homeland Security Investigations and the US Attorney's Office. Kristi Noem, the Homeland Security Secretary, posted a message on social media addressing 'LA rioters' and warning that interference with immigration enforcement would not be tolerated. 'You will not stop us or slow us down,' Ms Noem said on X, adding that ICE 'will enforce the law' and that 'if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.' Athleta, the women's athletic apparel brand owned by Gap Inc., is facing backlash over spokeswoman Simone Biles ' online feud with conservative activist Riley Gaines. 'Not 1 penny to Athleta until you drop Simone,' one critic wrote in response to an ad on X. The controversy began on Friday when Gaines retweeted a picture of a Minnesota softball team that recently won a state title with a player who is reported to be transgender. 'Comments off lol,' Gaines wrote in response to an X post that was prohibiting any responses. 'To be expected when your star player is a boy.'
