A plethora of presenters are already lining up to replace Doireann Garrihy when she takes maternity leave from her radio show, Extra.ie can reveal.
Doireann, who hosts 2FM's Drivetime slot, announced last month that she is expecting her first child with husband Mark Mehigan, with their little bundle of joy expected to make an appearance in the autumn.
While Doireann plans for life as a first-time mum, RTE have been compiling a lengthy list of presenters to pop into her slot while she takes a break from her show. In a statement to Extra.ie RTE said that they have compiled a detailed list of both internet and external candidates, saying: 'In relation to Doireann's 2FM show, we have been through a detailed expressions of interest phase and have a longlist of potential presenters both on and off 2FM which we are considering.'
Presenter Doireann and her new hubby, podcaster Mark Mehigan, announced last month that they are expecting their first child.
The couple, who tied the knot last year, shared the news on Instagram with photos holding their baby scan, with the caption: 'We are beside ourselves with joy. Here's to the greatest chapter yet.' Pic: Instagram/ 2FM
Dancing with the Stars judge Arthur Gourounlian congratulated the presenter with a post under the snap writing: 'This is absolutely beautiful. Congratulations, you guys. Now, if you need any tips on kids' fashion, you know who to call.'
Doireann's DWTS co-host, Jennifer Zamparelli, also sent social media well wishes to Doireann.
But as Arthur and Jennifer shared in their celebrity friend's baby delight, Doireann could take a side-step on this year's DWTS hosting duties. Dancing With The Stars presenters Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy. Pic: Kyran O'Brien/KOBPIX
While her exact date has not yet been revealed, RTE insiders have said that she could still be on maternity leave when DWTS filming begins in early January.
'Word is Doireann will be taking a break from DWTS this year. Also, word is there could be a Jennifer Zamparelli and Nicky Byrne reunion. But nothing confirmed yet.
In response to queries about next year's DWTS, RTE said: 'In line with previous years, Dancing with the Stars' has not yet been recommissioned for 2026. The commissioning process will take place in due course.'

What could Miriam O'Callaghan's memoir mean for future Áras bid?

Could Miriam O'Callaghan's soon-to-be-released memoir be a subliminal signal that she might be tipping her hat into the presidential ring? The popular RTE presenter revealed this week that she has penned a memoir which is poised to hit bookshelves in the early autumn, just ahead of the presidential election. And while current affairs host Miriam has previously ruled herself out of the running, her name is frequently mooted with pundits saying she would be a shoo-in to win the race. Pic: Brian McEvoy The release of her memoir could be a slight indicator that she may be softening on her resolve not to enter the race. Miriam has announced that she will be releasing a memoir in October, admitting that she is 'really nervous' about telling her story. Sharing the news on social media, she wrote: 'At first I planned it to be just about my work as a journalist, but I soon realised it was impossible to separate the personal and professional parts of my life, that's why it's about life, work and everything. Miriam O'Callaghan. Pic: Gareth Chaney/ Collins Photos 'In truth I am really nervous about telling my story, that's probably why it took me so long to write it. All I hope is that people will read it and find it interesting, authentic, entertaining and hopeful.' In fact writing a memoir has, at least in the American and European political sphere, become somewhat de rigueur for election candidates running for office with memoir writing providing an effective campaign tool for presidential hopefuls. Memoir writing has proved an effective campaign tool for presidential hopefuls. In fact the huge success of Barack Obama's Dreams from My Father was considered pivotal in his successful run for the Oval Office. And while Miriam O'Callaghan is already a household name in Ireland, autobiographies offer a deeper insight into personalities and offer readers the chance to know people by their own words and recollections. When contacted this week about a potential change of heart, Miriam was unusually coy. But she has in the past ruled out throwing her hat in the ring for the Presidency.

Donal Skehan 'cursed again' days after Bloom kitchen chaos

It seems the days of oven nightmares aren't over for Donal Skehan just yet. The TV chef was in the middle of a cookery demonstration at Bord Bia Bloom last weekend when a glass oven door broke into pieces in his hand. Thankfully, nobody was hurt by the flying shards, and the accident provided the chef with plenty of material for the rest of the demonstration, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the amused audience. Pic: Michael Chester However, his unlucky streak continued this week, with the star experiencing yet another oven explosion, this time at home. Taking to Instagram on Friday, Donal detailed a mishap that occurred while he was firing pottery in his kiln. 'Now I know we are not even clear of a week of my exploding oven incident, however, I've been cursed again,' he laughed. Pic: Michael Chester 'I've just fired the kiln for the very first time and look what I woke up to,' he added, showing a number of shattered pottery pieces in the base of the kiln. 'Another explosion in the oven,' he laughed. 'However, despite my little one pot that exploded, I have been left with these beautiful vases.' Finding the humour in the incident, he continued: 'Oven explosions, I think it's just something I live with now.' Speaking to following his original over mishap, Donal explained: 'My biggest fear was that the glass was hot, it went all down my shirt, all down my top.' 'It had rained previously, so we've never had a more packed demo tent – of course – to witness it,' Skehan laughed. 'The thing I learned in all my years on television is that whatever goes wrong, you keep on cracking on. I've had many kitchen disasters, and I think this definitely tops it. There's nothing like something going wrong in front of 400 people.'
