Robert MacIntyre not giving up major dream after falling just short at US Open

MacIntyre had hopes of becoming the first Scot to win a major since Paul Lawrie in 1999 when he was the clubhouse leader on the final day at a rain-soaked Oakmont.
He produced an excellent two-under-par 68 to sit at one over and looked set for a possible play-off with JJ Spaun, who had two holes to play.

But the American saved his best for last, first driving the green for birdie at the 17th before draining a monster 65-foot putt on the 18th to win by two shots.
MacIntyre, still sodden from torrential rain that caused a 96-minute delay, was watching open-mouthed in the scorer's office and could do nothing but applaud his opponent and mouth 'wow'.
The 28-year-old's career trajectory is on the rise, moving up to 12th in the rankings, and he looks set to be part of Europe's Ryder Cup team again later this year.
The Scot wrote on Instagram on Monday: 'Competing in the deep end of major championships is what I've dreamed of and yesterday was the first real taste of it. We'll be back for more.'
"Wow."

He added after Sunday's round: 'I've got a chance to win a major championship. It's what I've dreamed of as a kid, sitting back home watching all the majors.
'It was a day that I said to myself, 'Why not? Why can't it be me today?' when I was going round, and I just trusted myself.
'Almost got there, but not quite. I always thought I could really challenge, even going into today, but obviously the start wasn't a help.'
His dreams looked to be in tatters when he was two over after three holes but an eagle at the par-five fourth kick-started his round.
And he was pleased with the way he fought back into contention.
'I am absolutely delighted with the way I played. I got off to a rough start, I didn't get off to the start I wanted to, but I have been working so hard on staying patient and got my reward,' he added.
'I was watching the leaderboard all day and I saw I wasn't really going away. It was just about digging in and digging in.'

Baba Vanga's chilling WW3 prediction as war between Iran and Israel escalates

A blind seer made a chilling prediction that 2025 would see war break out in Europe before her death nearly 30 years ago. Bulgarian psychic Baba Vanga has successfully foreseen seismic events, including Princess Diana's death in 1997 and 9/11 – according to her followers, at least. But her premonitions for this year were particularly bleak – a conflict between two European nations. With the war between Russia and Ukraine well into its third year, and conflict raging in the Middle East – another military dispute would put the world nearer to World War Three. Vanga, whose real name is Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova, turned blind as a teenager, but gained a reputation for her mystic abilities. She forecast the new European conflict would 'devastate' the population. She said: 'As soon as Syria falls, expect a great war between the West and the East. In the spring, a war in the East will begin and there will be a third World War. A war in the East that will destroy the West.' Known as the 'Balkan Nostradamus' after the classical French astrologer, Baba died in 1996, but some of her predictions have since been borne out. As well as foreseeing a fresh war, Vanga claimed 2025 would be the year scientists would discover telepathy. In sport, Lewis Hamilton will win a record eighth Formula 1 world championship, according to Baba Vanga. The achievement would be his first since his shock move to Scuderia Ferrari last year and the team's first driver's championship since 2007. This year's final would be an absolute nail-biter, with Hamilton going head-to-head with reigning champion Max Verstappen for the title. The psychic also predicted this year would be the year humans would come face to face with aliens – at a major sporting event. Extraterrestrial beings would make a shock appearance at this year's Super Bowl in the halftime show. She also predicted this would be the year for a monumental scientific breakthrough in the form of a clean energy source. The discovery would be a godsend as the world hunts for sustainable fuels and renewables amid climate change – and lower energy bills. The mysterious Balkan seer has gained her reputation among fans for her seemingly extraordinary ability to foresee events that shake the world, even posthumously. One such event, according to some, was the September 11 attacks on New York's World Trade Center in 2001. She reportedly said back in 1989: 'Horror! Horror! The American brethren will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush, and innocent blood will be gushing.' The steel birds have been interpreted by some as the commercial aircraft that hit the Twin Towers, while the word 'bush' could refer to then-President George W Bush. Some also believe the 'howling wolves' is a reference to the US's subsequent War on Terror. It wasn't her only prediction on American politics either. Baba Vanga said that the 44th US president would be a Black man, years before Barack Obama was elected in 2008. In an even more spooky premonition, Vanga suggested his successor would be someone who would 'bring the country down'. A definition some argue fits that of a certain Donald J Trump. She said in an undated statement: 'Everyone will put their hopes in him to end it, but the opposite will happen. He will bring the country down and conflicts between north and south states will escalate.' Among other tragic incidents, she allegedly correctly predicted the death of Princess Diana in 1997 and the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. She also reportedly predicted the assassination of another major political, India's former prime minister Indira Gandhi, who was shot dead by two Sikh bodyguards. She said in 1969: 'The dress will destroy her. I see an orange-yellow dress in the smoke and fire.' Gandhi was indeed wearing a saffron yellow coloured dress. Most bizarrely of all, according to some, she successfully predicted her death – August 11, 1996, a date be brought up in a 1990 interview. However, not all of the psychic's visions proved to be correct. More Trending While discussion continues today about a possible future World War Three, Vanga foresaw a global conflict 15 years ago. She envisaged a full-blown nuclear confrontation that would destroy all of Europe. As you're reading this right now, it's safe to say this did not happen. Another one of her predictions which proved to be false, was the final 1994 World Cup final being played by two teams beginning with a 'b'. The match was contested by Brazil and Italy – a possible all 'b' final could have been Brazil against Bulgaria, the latter reaching that year's semi-final. Dan Evans: I've come full circle winning first match at Andy Murray Arena

The 35-year-old was Murray's partner when the three-time grand slam winner and former world number one played his final match, for Great Britain in the men's doubles at the Olympics last year. Evans played with Andy Murray (left) at the Olympics (Martin Rickett/PA) 'I didn't really think anything of it when I was put first on,' said Evans. 'But then a few people mentioned it, that I had finished with him in his last match and then played the men's event, the first match. It was pretty cool to do that.' Evans, now ranked a lowly 199 and plodding around the lower-tier Challenger events, rolled back the years against big-serving American Tiafoe. He picked up his second career win over a top-20 opponent on grass, having knocked 16th-ranked Nikoloz Basilashvili out of Wimbledon six years ago. 'I still believed I've got that tennis in me and I still believe I can do good things inside the top 100. But believing it and it happening is a lot different,' he added. 'You know, that's why I wake up in the morning to go to practice, to go to training. Top WIN for Dan Evans 💪 Dan claims his first @atptour Top 20 win since September 2023 #BackTheBrits 🇬🇧 | #HSBCChampionships — LTA (@the_LTA) June 16, 2025 'You know how some days you think 'are you deluded, are you nuts, have you still got it, still got it in your legs'? I think today showed I still have a bit left.' Evans needed a wildcard to play at Queen's and will need another if he is to compete at Wimbledon. 'I don't think any younger players have been ripping up stumps to knock me out of the wildcard spot,' he said. 'So I think I've got a good shot again. If I don't, yeah, I respect the All England Club. It's an amazing tournament, and they might go for younger people, which is perfectly fine. If they don't, I've got a chance.' British number two Jacob Fearnley joined Evans in round two after he made short work of Australia's Alex Bolt with a 6-2 6-4 victory. Edinburgh-born Fearnley, 23, said: 'It's really special to play here at Queen's on the Andy Murray Arena. Jacob Fearnley (pictured) defeated Alex Bolt to reach round two (Ben Whitley/PA) 'As a British tennis player, this is where we want to be playing, in front of a home crowd at Queen's. 'It's huge. I'm super happy he got an arena named after him. He was my biggest role model growing up.' But there was disappointment for British number three Cameron Norrie, who was beaten 7-6 (6) 1-6 6-1 by Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.
