In a throwback video shared by Aamir Khan Talkies on YouTube, Aamir opens up about the challenges he faced while directing the young actor. 'Very early on in the film, I realized that he finds it very difficult to cry,' Aamir says in the clip. He can be seen demonstrating emotional scenes to Darsheel and coaching him through the process. The actor-director admits that at times, he grew impatient with Darsheel's mistakes but constantly reminded himself that the boy was just nine years old.
'I had to tell myself, 'Aamir, tum 8-9 saal ke bachche se baat kar rahe ho. Thoda toh use waqt do (give him some time).''

Despite the initial hurdles, Aamir Khan has nothing but praise for Darsheel's performance. He notes that Darsheel's intelligence made him easy to work with and that he often treated him like an adult during filming.
