Eamonn Holmes shares devastating update about terminally ill friend James Whale
Eamonn Holmes has issued a heartbreaking update about his friend, James Whale, who has terminal cancer. The TalkTV host, 74, is currently being cared for in a hospice after telling fans he is 'at end of his journey' following his stage four kidney cancer diagnosis in 2021.
Dad-of-four, Eamonn, 65, who has been battling his own health concerns in recent years, went to visit James with I'm A Celebrity star, Christopher Biggins at the weekend, and revealed that their friend may tragically die this week in devastating news.
Issuing a fresh health update for the presenter on GB News, Eamonn explained how James' illness is now impacting his vocal chords, making it hard for him to communicate with his loved ones. It comes after James gave a devastating insight into his cancer diagnosis last month.
Speaking on his GB News show today, Eamonn said: "A friend of ours James Whale, who I have been to see, is nearing the end of his life maybe this week".
As his guest Christopher Biggins revealed that the pair went to visit James at the hospice over the weekend, the former Strictly star said: "We went on Saturday to see him, and he looks terrific, I have to say, and it was great to see him but it's his voice that's the trouble.
"The irony of being a journalist and using his voice on the radio brilliantly over the years, but now his voice is going."
Giving viewers an insight into what James' care facility is like after he made the move to a hospice this week, Christopher added: "What was so wonderful is the hospice that he's staying in, which I think needs something like £12million a year or something to survive, it was just wonderful.
"The nurses were phenomenal so the nurses so he's being looked after royally, and I think that keeps him going funnily enough. And he has a wonderful room with a view of trees and wonderful squirrels coming in to see him."
James recently revealed he was struggling to breathe, think and talk as he entered week seven of his 12 week prognosis back in July.
The host had remained committed in sharing updates with his fans as he carried on his podcast, Tales of the Whales alongside his wife Nadine.
On the final, emotional episode posted on Saturday, August 2, recorded after half a century as a broadcaster, James issuing a six-word statement to listeners.
The radio star has been battling cancer for the past five years and has been dealing with 20 tumours throughout his body, including in his brain, spine, and lungs.
Doctors recently informed James he has just weeks left to live, leaving his friends, family, and fans heartbroken.
A touching clip from the columnist's last podcast was recently shared on TalkTV, with the journalist summoning the strength to say to his wife Nadine, "We've had a good time together, haven't we?"
A supportive Nadine, who was next to him while the episode was being recorded, replied: "The best," before James whispered the words "I love you" to her. Clearly emotional, Nadine said: "I love you too. Shall we sign off on the podcast now?"

Strictly star investigated over drug use on show 'also suspected of drinking'
The BBC has reportedly launched a probe to investigate claims of cocaine use by two stars of Strictly Come Dancing, with a fresh claim one of the stars involved was also drinking on the show. According to The Sun, a celebrity has alleged that it was 'well known on the show that two stars took cocaine.' In response to the allegations, BBC bosses are said to have launched an enquiry using external lawyers. The claims were reportedly made in March by law firm Russells, on behalf of former contestant and opera singer Wynne Evans. According to the tabloid, other sources have also reported allegations of drug use to the BBC. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. The publication has since reported that one of the stars involved in the probe was also suspected of drinking, after other cast and crew smelled alcohol on their breath. A TV insider told the tabloid: 'The person in question is renowned for loving to party. 'On a very physical show like Strictly, with lots of sets and moving parts, the idea of someone being intoxicated in any way is wholly unacceptable.' The publication also claimed that the BBC was set to offer the two stars involved in the drugs probe the opportunity to attend rehab. A BBC spokesperson previously told Metro: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us.' Of the claims, the BBC's spokesperson continued: 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. 'It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' As a part of the probe, former contestants, cast and crew alike will all be given the opportunity to speak to law firm Pinsent Masons about their concerns. This comes as a celebrity source told The Sun that it is 'well known on the show that two stars took cocaine…it was talked about widely among the cast'. Meanwhile, one Strictly star allegedly described another person on the show as being 'off their face.' The Sun has not named the stars who have been accused of taking cocaine. This comes at a fraught time for the BBC – and less than a year after its investigation into allegations of bullying on the Strictly set concluded. A probe was launched into claims of misconduct by professional Giovanni Pernice, who was forced to step down amid claims that he had bullied actress Amanda Abbington during their rehearsals together. After months of investigating, the BBC upheld two moments of 'inappropriate behaviour of sexual banter in the workplace' The investigation uncovered no findings relating to physical aggression, but complaints of verbal bullying and harassment were upheld, according to the PA news agency. More recently, the BBC dropped former Strictly contestant Wynne Evans from his BBC Wales rolling contract after a series of controversies. The singer sparked furore when his professional dance partner Katya Jones appeared to move his hand from her waist – which he said was .just a body language experiment that was picked up on'. The pair maintained that this was a 'silly joke' which had simply misfired, but the opera singer was struck with more controversy when reports emerged that he'd made an 'unacceptable joke' about Strictly Live host Janette Manrara. More Trending Evans subsequently apologised, describing himself as 'deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate action caused' and would take a break from the public eye for 'self-reflection' and to 'prioritise my wellbeing'. His cancer returned in 2020, and it was revealed that it had also spread to his spine, brain and lungs. Rochelle Humes parties with Myleene Klass' ex-husband after cheating claim
Rochelle Humes has shared photos on holiday with Myleene Klass' ex-husband Graham Quinn days after the star accused him of cheating. Last week I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! star Myleene, 47, revealed that she once caught her ex about to have sex with a celebrity on her birthday. The TV presenter shares two daughters with the Irish bodyguard, whom she was married to for just six months, splitting after a decade together. However, when speaking about their relationship during a recent podcast interview, Myleene revealed that she once caught him about to sleep with a 'famous person' while in her own home for her birthday. A few days on, The Saturdays star Rochelle has posted snaps on holiday to Ibiza with husband Marvin Humes, 40. During the trip to celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary, the couple were joined by friends, including Graham, 47. In one photo Marvin was photographed smiling at a table in a restaurant, posing with Graham and two other friends. Captioning the post, which also included a string of photos of the group of friends partying and relaxing by the pool, Rochelle wrote: '72 hours in Ibiza…sun, sea, belly laughing, questionable dance moves and spicy margs that tasted better than our decisions. Our annual non-negotiable child free trip with old friends who remind you who you are. Sore heads all round today but ironically my battery feels recharged! Just what I needed. Happy 13 my love @marvinhumes. What a way to celebrate.' Graham is an old friend of Marvin's and used to manage his band JLS after they placed second on The X Factor in 2008. During her interview with Paul Brunson on the We Need To Talk podcast, Myleene spoke about walking in on her husband in an intimate moment with 'a famous person'. She described how the pair were taking off each other's clothes and immediately tried to claim that it wasn't what it looked like. 'I'm in my house, it's my party. They weren't having sex, but they were unzipping each other,' she explained before adding the pair tried to downplay what she'd seen. In shock, Myleene said she then 'kicked everyone out of the party, including his mum and dad'. 'They went back to Ireland and his dad said: 'He doesn't get it from me'. 'I was like 'Ok'. I remember thinking that was quite a weird thing to say.' Myleene, who is now married to PR guru Simon Motson, said that Graham later blamed the 'drink'. Although she refused to name the woman involved, Myleene said that 'for a long time it was very difficult to see their life'. 'My life literally just broke apart very, very publicly. And their life, they've managed to continue building a family brand on it and it felt so difficult for a long time.' Myleene and Graham met in 2001 when he was the bodyguard for her band Hear'Say. They welcomed daughter Ava in 2007 and Hero in 2011. The same year the couple got married but split soon after. Myleene has said that for 12 years she raised her children as a single parent, emotionally and financially. Graham has lived out of the spotlight since his split from Myleene, however in 2020 he posted a lengthy statement on Twitter calling out his ex-wife and claiming he had been blocked from seeing their daughters for seven years. More Trending In a series of posts, Graham said he was a 'private and loyal person' and would 'always put our daughters first'. 'The breakdown of our relationship should have never been in the public eye…we simply grew apart and neither of us was happy.' Myleene went on to meet her current partner Simon in 2015, with the couple welcoming their son Apollo four years later. Got a story?
