This Limited Edition Labubu Could Be The Next To Resell For 5 Figures

The Labubu x Vans Old Skool Vinyl Plush Doll isn't new—it was designed in 2023—but its limited availability has pushed it to be one of the most coveted versions of the Labubu.
An eBay listing for the limited edition toy had 16 bids and reached $8,924 as of 2 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, making it the most expensive Labubu currently available on major secondary market websites.
The brown doll listed for sale is wearing Vans' classic streetwear designs—including Sk8-Mid sneakers—as well as a Vans sweatshirt and blue and orange hat reading "The Monsters," the name of the series of characters to which Labubu belongs.
If it does hit the five-figure mark, the Labubu will be in good company: Other super valuable version of the doll include the Three Wise Labubu (it sold in a Sotheby's auction for $28,300 in May), the Sacai x Seventeen x Labubu (auctioned for $31,250 last month) and a Chinese auction house in June sold a life-sized Labubu doll sold for more than $150,000 and a tall brown Labubu figure for $140,000.
And while the price may seem high for what could be a flash-in-the-pan trend, Lori Verderame, an expert appraiser known to History and Discovery Channel viewers as "Dr. Lori,' told Forbes she thinks the Labubu trend is here to stay and that their 'unique look and general appeal will make them a strong market collectible for years to come.'
"(Labubus) follow in the high profile and high value tradition of collectibles such as Ty Beanie Babies, Jem and the Holograms toys, Cabbage Patch dolls, and more recently Squishmallows,' Verderame said. 'Their connection to international children's literature, specifically Nordic folk tales, and their presence in the art market also helps drive the market and attract new and seasoned collectors.'

The Labubu toy was designed by artist Kasing Lung, who is based in Hong Kong, a decade ago. He has said his characters, which first debuted in a picture book called 'The Monsters Trilogy' in 2015, are inspired by Nordic mythology. Lung licensed his designs to Pop Mart in 2019 and the company turned them into collectible toys. Labubus have skyrocketed in popularity thanks, in part, to endorsements from celebrities like Lisa from the K-pop group Blackpink, Rihanna and Dua Lipa, and also through TikTok 'unboxing' videos that shot them to viral fame. Labubus typically sell for $20 to $30 in 'blind boxes' so the buyer doesn't know what color or design the doll has until the box is opened, and it's the much-more-valuable 'secret' Labubus, which consumers have a 1-in-72 chance of buying, that are popping up on resale sites for thousands of dollars. The Labubu trend is reminiscent of the Ty Beanie Baby craze of the late 1990s, when clever marketing tactics and perceived scarcity sent $5 plush toys reselling for exponentially more, and while the 'Beanie Baby Bubble' did ultimately burst, a handful are still worth thousands of dollars. Videos have been posted of Pop Mart stores overrun with customers brawling and yelling at one another over the toys, and one woman described the scene on a Labubu product release day as "Labubu Hunger Games." Fans have lined up at Pop Mart stores and vending machines for hours, even traveling overseas to get their hands on one, CNBC reported. Pop Mart pulled the dolls from all U.K. stores following reports of customers fighting over them earlier this year and CNN recently reported hundreds of Labubu toys have been confiscated by customs authorities in China as resellers attempt to smuggle them into the country. Owners are reportedly looking into insuring their Labubus when traveling abroad, and reports have popped up on social media of the dolls being stolen off of bags when being worn as a key chain. One woman even started a (so far unsuccessful) GoFundMe to replace a Labubu she says was stolen off of her bag while she was at dinner. What To Watch For

Silksong will be playable next month, but only if you can get to Gamescom
Gamescom 2025 is shaping up to be a groundbreaking event with playable demos of many highly-anticipated games, including Hollow Knight: Silksong. Unfortunately, the demos will only be available to those who are present at the event, so anyone not making the trek to Germany is out of luck (for now.) Still, a playable demo is great news for fans who have waited years for Silksong to release. The news dropped today in an Xbox Wire post. Maxi Graeff, Xbox's gaming marketing lead for Germany, wrote that Gamescom will have more than 20 titles available to play, as well as hands-on experiences with both the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. In addition, Gamescom 2025 will also have a World of Warcraft celebration focused around the upcoming Midnight expansion and its anticipated housing feature. Playable demos will be available for the following games from third-party studios: Hollow Knight: Silksong Borderlands 4 Onimusha: Way of The Sword Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater EA Sports FC 26 Aniimo There Are No Ghosts at the Grand PowerWash Simulator 2 Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Final Fantasy XVI Invincible VS Super Meat Boy 3D Cronos: The New Dawn Mistfall Hunter Recommended Videos In addition, Grounded 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, and several other titles will also be present with hands-on demos, while games like The Outer Worlds 2 will have a theatrical presentation that dives deeper into its late-stage capitalistic setting. Bethesda is hosting its own broadcast straight from the show floor starting on Friday, and Xbox FanFest is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Although the contest winners have already been chosen, Xbox invites more fans to sign up in the sweepstakes for next year. There will be a live broadcast covering many announcements starting at 9 AM ET on Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21. It might not be exactly the same as being there in-person, but the broadcast is a great way for fans to stay up to date on all of the latest announcements.

Xbox will let you play Silksong at Gamescom in August
Microsoft will let Gamescom attendees play a demo of the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong on the new ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. It's part of more than 20 titles that will be available at the Xbox booth at Gamescom, including a new theater experience to demonstrate The Outer Worlds 2. Silksong will be available to play on the new Xbox Ally devices at Gamescom, just months after Xbox president Sarah Bond revealed in June that Silksong will be available 'at launch and in Game Pass' when Asus' new handhelds launch later this year. Gamescom attendees will also get to try out Microsoft's new Xbox and Windows UI, as well as play Roblox, Sea of Thieves, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 on the new Xbox Ally handhelds. Grounded 2 will also be at Gamescom, as well as the first public hands-on of Ninja Gaiden 4. We've been waiting three years to get a Silksong release date, after Microsoft originally said in 2022 that the sequel to the indie side-scrolling action platformer was coming within 12 months. A playable demo at Gamescom sure makes it even more likely that Silksong will debut later this year. Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Why it's the perfect time for a Bend it like Beckham sequel
With England's Lionesses winning the 2025 Euros, it is absolutely the right to revisit the classic, which is a staple of the British film industry. The Lionesses have won the Women's Euro 2025 championship, proving that women's football is worth taking seriously, something Bend It Like Beckham tried to show more than two decades ago. That's why it's such great news that the British classic is getting a sequel, with director Gurinder Chadha sharing ahead of the Euros final that a follow-up was in development. While details about the film are still being kept under wraps, the target release for the sequel is 2027 to mark the FIFA Women's World Cup and the original film's 25th anniversary It is the perfect time for there to be another film when the love for the sport is at an all-time high, but also because there are still naysayers speaking out against the merits of women's football. When Bend It Like Beckham came out in 2002, the movie helped put women's football at the forefront of people's minds. It explored teens Jesminder "Jess" Bhamra (Parminder Nagra) and Juliette "Jules" Paxton's (Keira Knightley) quest to become professionals like their idol David Beckham, at a time when women's sport wasn't taken seriously. Unfortunately, in some circles not much has changed. Even though England's Lionesses have proven their mettle and that they should be considered on a par with the men's England team, there are many who still decry the team just because they are women. For example, in an LBC radio interview, one football fan called in to complain about women's football being "shoved down our throats" and how they should be given their own channel separate from men's football, even though he claimed "no one" would watch it. The listener also said female sports presenters shouldn't even be allowed on Match of the Day because he couldn't stand listening to their voices. Now these are extreme claims, but unfortunately, that viewer isn't completely alone in that viewpoint either. There are still some people who believe women's football isn't as worthwhile as men's football, and that's simply not true. Women's football is inspiring and exciting, and the Lionesses are inspirational for young girls around the world. Put simply, they deserve our respect for their achievements to date. That's also why Bend it Like Beckham is so important, it shows the merits of women playing football and helped inspire generations of young players to follow in the footsteps of Jess and Jules. And now, in the wake of the Lionesses' success, it feels like the right time to revisit the narrative to motivate even more girls to take up the sport. Speaking on Good Morning Britain the day after the Lionesses' win, director Chadha reflected on the impact the original had and how a sequel could do the same. Saying: "I waited a long time because I just didn't think it was right to do anything after the film, because so many people love it, and I was terrified that I could ruin it because we captured magic in a bottle. "We've inspired champions, not only the Lionesses. I know the US team all got into playing football after watching the movie. There was a lot riding on it, and so I didn't really want to go back there." Chadha added that now women's football has become a movement, so it is the perfect time to jump back into the beloved British comedy's story: "I thought actually it's different now, it's not so much the film, it's the movement. This is what we created, a movement much bigger than the film and so now I feel much less pressure." There is another thing that means it is the perfect time for a Bend It Like Beckham sequel, and that's millennial nostalgia. Millennial content has helped fuel the box office for quite some time now, and it's only going to continue growing with sequels to movies like Freaky Friday and I Know What You Did Last Summer landing this year and a Scrubs reboot green-lit. If the box office for Lilo & Stitch alone is anything to go by, then if it's something they love Millennials will tune in. We like to return to familiar stories and imagine what happened next, perhaps because it is a way to go back to a simpler time when the pressures of adult life hadn't quite set in yet. It's a lesson Hollywood seems to have taken on board quite significantly in recent years. There is merit in returning to beloved classics for another go, and Bend It Like Beckham falls into that category. It is not only a beloved film for millennials, it is also a staple of the British film industry that is worthy of a return. And with women's football finally at the forefront of people's minds in the real world it seems like the perfect time to explore it once again in the fictional world. Bend It Like Beckham is available to watch on Disney+ and ITVX.
