Robert MacIntyre and Tommy Fleetwood make strong starts to Tour Championship

Robert MacIntyre and Tommy Fleetwood were three shots off the lead as Russell Henley set the early pace at the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Henley carded a flawless nine-under-par 61 at East Lake to lead by two from world number one Scottie Scheffler. Scotland's MacIntyre and England's Fleetwood were a shot further back alongside potential American Ryder Cup picks Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas. Rory McIlroy was five strokes off the lead, in a group which also included Sweden's Ludvig Aberg, after completing a 64 with an unusual birdie in the final group. His third shot from a bunker on the closing par five came back off a grandstand to the green where he holed from 18 feet, seconds before the siren sounded for the course to be evacuated because of approaching storms. Rain throughout the day softened the course enough to allow the 30-strong field to clean and place their balls on the fairways. Henley took full advantage of a day of low scoring, holing three birdie putts from at least 40 feet and closing with three straight birdies. Scheffler finished with two birdies alongside McIlroy to jump out of the pack as Henley's nearest challenger. MacIntyre and Fleetwood came close to winning in the opening two events of the season-ending FedEx play-offs and continued their good form at East Lake. Fleetwood opened with three birdies, his only blemish coming on the 10th, MacIntyre stringing together three straight birdies from the 11th, with both making a birdie at the last.

Rockets' offseason lands atop NBA analyst's rankings after Kevin Durant trade

Rockets' offseason lands atop NBA analyst's rankings after Kevin Durant trade originally appeared on The Sporting News The Houston Rockets showcased their win-now mindset this offseason, adding more veterans and executing a record-breaking seven-team trade to acquire 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant. Houston enters the 2025-26 campaign as a top contender in the Western Conference, following a second-place finish in the 2024-25 campaign and a first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. In addition to Durant, the Rockets acquired Dorian Finney-Smith, Clint Capela and Josh Okogie while retaining Steven Adams. Their frontcourt now features Durant, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason, Finney-Smith, Capela and Adams. By pairing established veterans with a rising young core, the Rockets have positioned themselves to compete with the Oklahoma City Thunder for a title in 2025-26. Rockets' offseason moves turn heads and raise expectations David Aldridge of The Athletic had high praise for Houston, ranking their offseason moves at No. 1 in the NBA. 'This is a gamble a championship-hunting organization takes,' Aldridge said. 'Getting DFS from the Lakers was huge. Respect to GM Rafael Stone and Houston's front office for not bowing at the OKC altar and shooting their shot.' MORE: Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley breaks down Kevin Durant's fit with Houston While the Thunder remain arguably the most well-positioned team in the West, the Rockets are right there with them. Houston surpassed expectations last season and saw significant growth from Sengun and Amen Thompson. With a mix of young stars and veterans, a championship isn't out of the question. Strengthening their center group behind Sengun should also increase opportunities for second-chance points. The team still needs to finalize an extension with Durant, who is on an expiring contract. Regardless, Houston has the tools in place to make serious noise in the playoffs after an impressive summer. Father Of Boston Celtics Star Jaylen Brown Arrested For Attempted Murder

On Thursday morning, TMZ Sports dropped a bombshell report involving Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. His father, former boxer Marselles Brown, was arrested for attempted murder. Brown, the No. 3 pick from the 2016 NBA Draft, has lived up to the hype for the Celtics. He's an NBA Finals MVP and four-time All-Star. Boston failed to defend its championship this past season, but it wasn't because of Brown. The Georgia native averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Unfortunately for Brown, he'll now have to deal with drama off the court. According to TMZ, his father allegedly stabbed a youth football coach on Wednesday. This allegedly happened because of a dispute over a parking spot at All American Park. Las Vegas Metro Police said the suspect, Marselles Brown, fled the scene before being tracked down and taken into custody. Brown's father is set to appear in court later this Thursday. TMZ is reporting that the coach who was stabbed during this alleged incident was rushed to a nearby hospital and needed surgery. His condition hasn't been revealed at this time. If we had to guess, more details regarding this situation will be released in the coming days. Brown's father was a champion boxer. Marselles Brown used his 86-inch reach to his advantage during his boxing career, owning a 33-18-1 record with 25 knockouts. Although he turned pro in 1989, some of the best moments of his career came in the 2010s. In 2016, Marselles won the World Boxing Union World Championship. He said he came out of retirement to inspire his children. 'My main motivation for coming out of retirement was to show my kids that I never gave up on my dreams,' Marselles said in an interview with "I didn't want them to give up on theirs." Will this impact Brown's 2025 season with the Celtics? There was some buzz about the Celtics moving Brown this offseason. At the end of the day, the front office wisely held onto him. He's too valuable to part ways with, especially since he's just 28 years old. Although this is a very concerning situation for Brown and the Celtics, it shouldn't impact his status on the roster. Besides, he has proven time and time again that he's a true professional. As of now, Brown hasn't commented on his father's situation. He's currently getting ready for his 10th season with the Celtics. This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 21, 2025, where it first appeared in the NBA section.
