Punjab Province in Pakistan approves first Child Protection Policy
Pakistan's Punjab Cabinet on Tuesday approved the province's first Comprehensive Child Protection Policy, a measure developed to enhance the safety and well-being of children in the region.
The policy was formulated by the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau with technical support from UNICEF Pakistan.Officials state it aims to establish a safer, more just, and nurturing environment for every child in Punjab. The policy's creation has been linked by the Bureau to the focus of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on child protection.
Sarah Ahmad, Chairperson of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her leadership in relation to children's rights. She said the approval of this policy is more than a government decision—it is a beacon of hope, a transformative milestone that strengthens our resolve to protect and empower children across the province.
Ahmad further added: 'The newly approved Child Protection Policy of Punjab lays the foundation for a robust and integrated child protection system across the province. It is designed to safeguard all children from abuse, violence, neglect, exploitation, and harmful practices, ensuring their safety and dignity. Anchored in both the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the Constitution of Pakistan, the policy reflects international standards and national legal frameworks.'
The policy emphasises multi-sectoral collaboration, bringing together families, schools, communities, and government departments to address child protection. It seeks to establish clear rules, procedures, and services to respond effectively to child protection concerns and aims to strengthen both legal and social systems.
To support its implementation, the policy includes provisions for the professional training of social service workers, enabling them to respond to the needs of vulnerable children. Furthermore, it introduces a digital Case Management and Referral System (CP-CMRS) to help track individual cases and support timely interventions. A centralised Management Information System (MIS) will also be utilised to facilitate data collection, inter-agency coordination, and effective follow-ups.

Pakistan's Punjab Declares State of Emergency after Indian Strikes
Ahmed Emam Pakistani Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a state of emergency in the province, placing hospitals and security forces on high alert in response to the missile attack from India. All doctors and medical staff in Punjab's hospitals have had their leaves cancelled, said adding that officers and staff from civil defence and other relevant departments have been called to duty. In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the Pakistani military is taking action against the Indian agreasion, although he did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the response. Reports from Pakistani television, citing security officials, indicated that the Pakistani Air Force successfully intercepted and shot down five Indian fighter jets. According to Reuters, sources revealed that heavy exchanges of fire were occurring between the Indian and Pakistani armies at three different locations along the Kashmir border. Furthermore, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif reported that all locations targeted by India were civilian areas rather than militant camps, asserting that India's claim of targeting terrorist facilities was untrue. Pakistani military spokesperson confirmed that the Indian attack resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals and injuries to twelve others. The spokesperson also mentioned that preparations for Islamabad's response to the missile attack are underway, highlighting that at least two mosques were among the targets of the Indian assault. The Pakistani military emphasized that India will face a thorough and decisive retaliation. On the other hand, the Indian military accused Pakistan of breaching the ceasefire agreement in Jammu and Kashmir once again. Reuters reported, based on an Indian military statement, that an operation was conducted to target terrorist infrastructure in both Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in strikes on nine Pakistani positions. Foreign Minister Wang Yi shares call with new US secretary of state
See News Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio by telephone on Friday, saying both sides should maintain communications, manage differences, and expand cooperation to promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US relations. The conversation was the first interaction between the two senior diplomats since Rubio assumed the position on Monday. According to a readout from the Foreign Ministry, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told Rubio that the leadership of the CPC is the choice of the Chinese people, and China's development is driven by clear historical logic and strong internal momentum. "Our goal is to improve the lives of our people and make greater contributions to the world. We have no intention of surpassing or replacing anyone, but we must defend our legitimate right to development," Wang said. He also elaborated on China's stance on the Taiwan question, and urged the US to handle the issue with the utmost caution. Wang also reminded the US side of its solemn commitment to the One-China principle in the three China-US joint communiques, stressing that Washington must not renege on its promises. And he also pointed out that major powers must act responsibly, maintain world peace, and assist in the shared development of all nations. Wang expressed hope that Rubio would make the right decisions and play a constructive role for the future of the people of both nations and for global peace and stability. Rubio conveyed the readiness of the US side to conduct candid communication with China, properly handle differences, and manage bilateral relations in a mature and prudent manner, according to the readout from the Foreign Ministry. He also reaffirmed that the US does not support "Taiwan independence" and that it hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Taiwan question in a manner acceptable to both sides of the Strait.
