Lakers Receive Unfortunate News After NBA Trade Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Utah Jazz are one of the worst teams in the NBA, so pretty much every player on their roster can be had for the right price. Among those players is Walker Kessler, whom the Los Angeles Lakers have had interest in as recently as the NBA Trade Deadline.

Marc Stein reported that the Lakers tried to get him at the deadline, but the Jazz declined. The Deseret News' Sarah Todd reported lst Saturday that the Jazz will put Kessler in trade conversations.
"Numerous league sources have indicated that they believe the Jazz are going to be active over the next several weeks," Todd wrote. "...league sources have said that they expect for conversations to include Walker Kessler (who is extension eligible) and Lauri Markkanen."

However, just because Kessler is available doesn't mean the Lakers will get him. The Athletic's Jovan Buha reported on "Buha's Block" his skepticism that the Lakers will meet the Jazz's price for Kessler.

'I just don't know if the Lakers have the requisite assets to get Walker Kessler, but I think he's likely available for the right price,' Buha said. 'I just think that price is very high, and I don't know if the Lakers can get to it.'
Kessler had an excellent third season with the Jazz, averaging 11.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks while shooting 66.3% from the field. He'd be an excellent fit with the Lakers, but just because Kessler is in trade talks doesn't mean they will trade him the first chance they get.

Rory McIlroy evades media after disappointing 1st round at US Open

Rory McIlroy had a forgetful opening round at the U.S. Open. The reigning Masters champion ended Thursday at Oakmont at 4-over par. While the disappointing day was somewhat out of the ordinary for the pro golfer, he did continue his pattern of dodging members of the media. The Northern Irishman has not spoken to the assembled media since he put on the coveted green jacket in April at Augusta. "I'd like to start this press conference with a question myself," McIlroy said at Augusta National. "What are we all going to talk about next year?" But after not speaking to reporters at the PGA Championship last month, McIlroy opted against offering comment to the media after the first round at Oakmont. Instead, he bypassed reporters and spectators and went inside the Oakmont clubhouse. Golfers are not contractually obligated to speak with the media. Other major professional American sports leagues such as the NFL and NBA require their players to speak with the press. McIlroy's day did get off to a strong start. At one point he was 2-under par, but his fortunes took a quick turn down the stretch on the last nine. McIlroy ended the opening round eight strokes behind J.J. Spaun, who held the top spot on the leaderboard. Once the U.S. Open wraps up this weekend, McIlroy is expected to compete in the Ryder Cup. Since winning at Augusta, McIlroy has finished tied for 12th at the Zurich Classic and tied for 7th at the Truist. His PGA Championship performance also produced a disappointing finish. Adam Silver responds to NBA Finals digital decals controversy

The decal debate continues. During Wednesday night's 'NBA Countdown' on ABC, NBA commissioner Adam Silver responded to criticism of the digitally inserted images of the Larry O'Brien Trophy shown on the court during the broadcast of Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Silver dropped a bombshell when he told viewers that these digital decals have been in use for 10 years. Advertisement 'People don't realize that they [the on-court decals] went away a decade ago,' Silver said. There has been over the atmosphere on TV during the NBA Finals, and some have suggested that the league should revive the on-court decals featuring the Finals trophy to make the game feel more special. Advertisement But Silver said that will not be happening anytime soon because of previous complaints from players. 'There were claims that…they were slippery.' Silver added. 'So, we're back to adding them virtually.' While, in theory, the idea of virtual decals is good, it all comes down to the execution. And, at least according to fans on social media, it was executed terribly. Advertisement During Game 2 of the Finals, some complained that the decals were glitchy and low-resolution. 'Looks like the @NBA got the memo about fans wanting more visuals of the #NBAFinals insignia and Larry OB, but superimposing a digital image isn't the answer,' another person wrote on X. But amid the many comments slamming the NBA's lack of effort were some interesting ideas if on-court decals were a no-go. Close-up of the CGI decals fans were treated with on Wednesday @awfulannouncing/X Advertisement Many pointed to the custom courts during the NBA Cup as something the league could employ during the Finals. During the in-season tournament, the NBA had 30 custom courts designed and in use, which is something some fans think could work for the Finals — especially if the 'slippery' decals are a worry. Magic Johnson Claims He Warned Lakers Not To Let Alex Caruso Walk

Magic Johnson Claims He Warned Lakers Not To Let Alex Caruso Walk originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Magic Johnson is not one to hold back his thoughts on the Los Angeles Lakers. The franchise icon and former president of basketball operations has never hesitated to critique or support the team he helped elevate into a global brand. And during a recent appearance on First Take, Magic had a pointed reminder for Lakers brass: they ignored his warning, and it came back to haunt them. Advertisement "The thing that hurt the Lakers the most was losing KCP.. And then we're watching the other guy for Oklahoma City right now in Caruso. They were our best on ball defenders. And I told them that. "If you're gonna lose KCP, he signed for more money, but you gotta keep Caruso. Can't lose them both. But they assigned Taylor Horton to that $9,000,000. Instead of giving it to Caruso, and that come back to bite the Lakers." After winning the 2020 championship in the Orlando bubble, the Lakers still had the pieces to contend. LeBron James and Anthony Davis were in their prime, the team had a strong defensive identity, and players like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Alex Caruso played vital roles on both ends of the floor. But in 2021, injuries derailed the season, and the team was bounced in the first round by the Phoenix Suns. What followed was a dramatic shift in philosophy. The Lakers traded for Russell Westbrook in a blockbuster deal that sent Caldwell-Pope to Washington. Then came the controversial decision to let Alex Caruso walk in free agency. Advertisement He was reportedly willing to return on a team-friendly deal, but the Lakers chose to invest in Talen Horton-Tucker instead. It was a gamble that hasn't aged well. Caruso signed with the Chicago Bulls, flourished into one of the league's premier perimeter defenders, and is now playing in the NBA Finals with the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the first three games of the series, he's averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists off the bench. His gritty defense, timely shooting, and hustle plays have been instrumental in the Thunder's surprising playoff run. More importantly, he's doing it on the biggest stage, something Magic believes could've still been happening in purple and gold. Meanwhile, the Lakers have cycled through numerous backcourt options but have yet to find a defensive stopper like Caruso. Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic are elite offensive players but defensively, the Lakers have struggled to contain top-tier guards without a true on-ball disruptor. Advertisement Caruso was more than a fan favorite. He was the glue guy every contender needs. And now, as he chases another title in a different uniform, Magic Johnson's words ring painfully true: the Lakers let go of a winning piece, and they've been paying the price ever since.
